Sing Along Lyrics

I can’t see the relevance of the title in the song?!

I know PG can have same very vague lyrics meaning nothing, but the verses seem to make sense, but I just can’t figure out how “Sing Along” fits in with the rest of the song.

Any ideas?

“Sing Along” to the songs “I know you like, the sound turned down.”

That’s how I see the connection... and their togetherness that they have, which is comparable to that duetting, and the “you don’t know what’s happening” next bit is onviously about the effect their togetherness is having on him.

You may give the meaning to the songs, that how pop songs works sometimes. And we know that Gessle is not so lirically complex as Roger Waters is.

Sing Along is the tipycal broken hearted love song that Gessle makes at his best, short and clear love stories. For me, the hardest part to understan is the name, because my mother languaje is spanish and we don´t have a word or expression like Sing along.

Even The Beatles has the lyrics that gessle has, just remember “ooh i need your love 8 days a week” you can´t make a logical connection at the lyrics despite in Party Crasher i see a deeper work than other albums. I died and went to heaven, Sing along, I´m Glad you called are beautifull songs and i do like the party pleaser too.

I never thought of it that way. To me the verse was like a story being told then the chorus was just there to make the song, if you know what i mean. But with that view i have a different view on the song now.

It can be very hard with some of PG’s songs, especially some of the earlier lyrics. There was a great thread a while back which was discussing the meaning of songs, it’s very interesting to hear peoples ideas on what some songs are about.

I read somewhere that most of musicians think in a good/cool title for a song and then the lyrics are written around that idea... that’s how Paul McCartney writes some of his songs, Biker like an Icon for instance, it could also be Gessle’s case, who knows

Well, Macca called Scrambled eggs to Yesterday until he finish the whole lyrics and the chorus was “Scrambled eggs, Oh, baby how I love your legs.” wtf! The amazing stoey of how macca developed Yesterday is the same story about how Per made Milk and toast and honey...

The way I understood the song is that his life is like a song. so he sings sing along, meaning come join me, or feel what I feel. The words sing along is a metaphor for life or things happening in life?

Here’s what I made out of it:

Sing Along

you played along the first time
that i saw you
you left me with a blanket
on the ground
i dreamed i watched you dancin’ away
my night until dawn

Ok It kind of sounds like the ’Character’ In the song, meets a girl, [either in the audience, but probably on the stage not quite sure], at a music concert in the park, [hence the blanket], When He first saw her he falls in love and he dreamed about her.

suddenly i don’t know
where to find you

Ok the concerts over and he’s lost track of the girl.

i followed every mood
you made in town

I think this means every concert they performed, every promotional stop, the hotel etc.

i listened to the songs
that i know you know
the sound turned down

He either listened to her, [or the bands], songs, ones she knows very well, or he watched a DVD or TV show of one of her performances, with the audio muted, so he could see her dance/perform.

sing along
sing along
you don’t know what’s happenin’ to me
you don’t know what you are doin’ to me
you don’t know what you are doin’ to me

Now it sounds as if the guy is becoming a die-hard fan, or obsessed with the girl.

hey baby, i’ve been speedin’ up
the side roads
across the shiny river
to your house
tryin’ to find out what you want
what you need to bring us close

Now it sounds like he’s following, [or stalking her], he’s disillusioned, he wants to make the close.

you made me smile
the first time
that i saw you
you left me on a blanket
made of clouds
i dreamed i watched the sun
playin’ in your eyes
the lights turned down

The man has looks back on when he first met/saw her, he’s looking back with emotion.

sing along
sing along
you don’t know what’s happenin’ to me
you don’t know what you are doin’ to me
you don’t know what you are doin’ to me

As I said before he’s obsessed with her or a couple are splitting up.

However I could be totally wrong, It could be about and die-hard or obsessed fan, [something Per knows well].

It could also be about a girl the character meets at a concert the he falls for and he can’t find her, but when he sings along to the songs her remembers the girl.

Finally It could also be a song about a couple who met at a concert and who fell in love, perhaps stayed together for years or got married, and they are separating/breaking up, and they are both reminiscing about their first encounter, maybe the music form that concert makes them feel better/closer.

What do you think?

Cheers

Dave

personally I think that Per made this song inspired by Marie ... .

Nice interpretation ditroia!!!
I just think that it may be a little more metaphoric, without an actual singer/performer being involved, but just the relationship between two persons and the feelings of one of them described in the song...

Sing Along has to do with the guys feelings, he wants her to sing along, in other words feel what he feels.
Have you ever heard this saying: Every day its is the same old story. Its not really a story its the same things happening

Now if you “sing along” You are doing what he is doing, but metaphorically it is feel what I feel
