Physical Fascination...

I spent one afternoon reading old forum topics, and I found out, that for some reason the most hated song from Joyride seems to be Physical Fascination. I don’t get it all, I’ve always thought it was a nice song, I especially love the intro and the end. Well, it belongs to weaker songs on Joyride, but it’s far better than The Big L or Small Talk...
So, what do you think about this song?

I like that song. If you ask me, there’s no bad song on Joyride, only one - Soul Deep. I really really don’t understand why it was placed on Joyride album.
Physical Fascination is great song with great sound, with 1990 sound. I think that during year 1990 Per and Marie created something really fantastic, some kind of music miracle. 14 songs from Joyride album plus Queen Of Rain, plus The Sweet..., plus Comeback. There’s no other Roxette album sounds so cool, so modern, so hitty and so timeless. It’s collection of hits, hit after hit, possible single after another possible single. And Physical Fascination is part of this collection.

I like “Soul Deep”. Marie delivered a very powerful performance in that song. Specially when the song is gonna end (from 2:45 onwards), Marie’s singing “ohhh, yeah, is a heavenly wave, c’mon, c’mon, oh yeah, taking my breath away! soul deep, soul deep...”, I have not heard her performing that way again. That’s worth the inclusion of “Soul Deep” on “Joyride”. I guess they wanted to perform that song live but, as it was not included on any of their ’international albums’, they had to put in on “Joyride”.
“Physical Fascination” sounds lame to me. Even the vocals by Per sound boring and tired. For example, it does not have the energy of “The Look”. It’s the same melody from the begining to the end, there’s no energy. It’s flat, that’s the proper word. Indeed, the “Guitar Solo Version” works better, because the guitar riffs bring some life into the monotonous arrangement. I’d prefer “The Sweet Hello, The Sweet Goodbye” as an album track. It seems they didn’t want so many ballads on the final tracklist, so it ended as a B-side.

physical fascination is a great track
first line: i got to go get aboard attack a love jet” very “The look”,
sounds like a line used cos it just worked.
The song is layered and well constructed vocally.
one of my favs from joyride, but the album anyway has no bad tracks in my opinion, true work of art.

PF is always a bit hit and miss for me - I’ve gotta me in the mood for it. It’s not their worst track by far, but it’s certainly isn’t their best.

Arghh, I hate PF with a passion - as far as I’m concerned, it’s the only album song of Roxette’s that I simply can’t stand - a couple of RoomService songs are almost as bad ! In fact, they’re nowhere near as bad as PF.
But, arggh, just thinking about this silly song is making me grumpy ! How this went on the album instead of TSH,TSG I’ll never know !!
my ipod tells me I have played it precisely one time - and that was because I wanted to remember how bad it was. :S

Stragely, the “Joyride” LP let “Church Of Your Heart” out of the final tracklist. And the US cd version did not include “I Remember You”. For some weird reason, PF was included in both issues :P
pwbbounce (moderator) said on October 22, 2008 14:24:
The obvious reason for that is that Per and Marie liked the track a lot?
7-Twenty-7 said on October 22, 2008 22:49:
I don’t think Per/Marie had a say in that. It might have been the company’s decision.

I think it’s a fun, funky track... everyone would love it if it was on room service.

About Soul Deep - I understand why so many people find it quite annoying, but I like Marie’s voice and guitars. (And it has 3 verses, which is unusual for Rox songs)

I really liked it but then as I’d said for years Joyride was the best Roxette album for me! :)

It’s one of the three Roxette songs that I *really* cannot stand. I have to skip it every time I play “Joyride”. It’s the worst track from that wonderful album, by far. “Small Talk” is a lot catchier, and sung by Marie. That’s enough to make it better than PF.
