I am thinking Per has simply run out of ideas!
Marie can sing, we know this... so we are not waiting for her to ’get better’ or ’when she is ready’...They have made several ablums since 9/11, 2002.
He is now simply not capable of making the music he used too, so has just applied his lack of skills to the SOAP/HM Projects.

There won‘t be a new Roxette album, relax. Sad, but true, you‘re all will see...

The thing is Roxette is not in the urge to release anything new. They achieved all they ever wanted in the international scale (four #1 hits in the US, played in big venues in Europe and Latin America, etc). They have nothing to prove anymore. If they release a new album (knowing it won’t be a mega-seller) it’s to keep the fans more or less happy. That’s all. In my opinion, silence is better than a mediocre ’comeback’ album.
They achieved fame and fortune. Now it’s time for low-profile projects in their native Sweden. That’s ok for me, I’d do the same if I were in their shoes!

@n-Somnia: What do you mean by “their 20th anniversary since they broke out internationally”?
@7-Twenty-7: Yes, maybe a comeback album would be “mediocre” in the eyes of the critics. But for a big fan, it would be great, no matter the quality.
And Reveal and One Wish were very nice, so it’s possible.

hmm, i don’t know, but maybe next year, and the new single will be a big hit’s the next summer!!!

I don’t know why there’s the feeling that they doing something in secret. They’ve never done that before so why do you think they’re doing it now? Facts are that Marie IS recording a new solo album for next year and well Per is always into something solo or whatever so chances for new music are real... chances for Roxette in the near future are kinda unlikely.
But on the other side they seem to be in close touch so who knows!?
Marie might be singing again but doesn’t mean that she’s up to recording a whole new Roxette album maybe it’s not that easy and takes a lot of time and preparation more than it used to.
I disagree a new album is to keep fans happy they do it because they want to happy fans it’s a bonus.
Everything will be welcomed of course and new Rox would be a dream come true but i think we’ll have to wait a bit longer... but i haven’t heard the word goodbye yet...

I was referring to when “The Look” got American airplay in 1989.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Åkerlund’s videos made HAND unpopular? Come on, it has nothing to do with popularity. You call him one of the worst directors in the world. But his videos seem to work for Madonna and Maroon 5... On the other hand, “Joyride” was a big sucess, but the promotional video is awful! You see, it’s not so related.
I don’t think HAND was unpopular. You can’t place a single in the UK #11 out of nothing. “WICF” is one of the most beautiful videos Roxette ever shoot, it’s far from boring! I have several Rox videos in Youtube (from HAND onwards), and WICF is the most watched. It has been played 774.007 times, since February 2007! The 2nd in my raking is “ATAY”, which has been played 327.335 times. And they only get possitive comments, it seems everybody loves these songs. “Anyone” is quite popular, too. “TCOTH” and “RS” don’t work so well... People still prefer the Roxette ballads over the up-tempo singles. That’s a fact.
7-Twenty-7 said on October 6, 2008 20:07:
“Salvation” was not directed by Åkerlund, so keep it aside. I agree it doesn’t make sense, but it was Corbijn this time. I don’t think the “Joyride” video has a ’very strong story and theme’. It’s one of their worst videos, imo. It’s just random pics (I hate the mechanic monkey!) and cheap effects, like Marie standing on the plane’s wing. It’s not in the same level of FLAF, YDUM, CBB or ATAY.
“Anyone” was banned by MTV. But they don’t hesitate in showing explicit videos and nasty reality shows all day long. They also censored the TCOTH video because of a golf ball, even if it was less than one second. They always have a (lame) excuse.
And the US is a lost cause for Roxette. They won’t have a hit there, no matter if the video is directed by Steven Spielberg or Francis F. Coppola. The Jonas videos worked were they had to work, that’s Europe and Latin America.

I would think that’s a common sort of intro/scene change which you will find used alot in various things. I personally think that the WICF one looks alot better.
When making the video clips i would have thought that making something that fits the song would take precedence over making it something that will “wow” a particular market.

If there is going to be a Rox album in the future, it won’t be for at least a year now. Party Crasher is going to live on to next summer at the latest.
I’m not holding out much hope at the moment.........
Sascha said on October 27, 2008 16:37:
I still hope for a rox return, the solo efforts unfortunately don’t get me excited. For a brand new rox album spring 2010 seems to be the earliest possible date now. ;-(
Why is this thread off topic?

Why is this in the Off-topic forum?
I think it fits perfectly in the roxette-forum!
to answer the question: no idea (hopefully in 2009)
Emil__BG said on November 22, 2008 09:46:
Next year they must reliase at least 1-2 new songs.
1.20th anniversary since they broke out internationally,
2.Per must prove that he is still capable of making good music.
He must get trough middle-age crisis.
Room_service said on November 22, 2008 14:38:
Well, it’s not mandatory to release something in every anniversary, is it? I’d prefer them to release new songs when they feel ready and fully inspired to do something together. No matter if it’s an anniversary or not. And “20th anniversary since they broke out internationally” is a quite artificial one!
n-Somnia said on October 4, 2008 09:25:
I chose “next year”. It will be their 20th anniversary since they broke out internationally, after all...
