Which song are Roxette hopeless at live?

Hi which songs do you all think that Roxette (as good as they are live) just couldnt get right?

ive heard that they did a poo version of Milk and Toast and Honey at Blackpool in 2001

all versions they did of How do you do! There are some live versions floating around on the www...

I thought “Listen To Your Heart” wasn’t that good on the RS tour, leaving out the modulations, a lot of the emotion was lost there.

How come “How Do You Do” doesn’t work live, is it that hard to play???

No, Per simply can’t sing it live. It would have worked if he could...

Really hopeless for me was “Real Sugar” live.

I heard M & T & H at blackpool too - Marie sounded really awful - completely out of tune and struggling. But, like all of us, they are allowed bad days at the office - so to speak. So if forgive them! :o)

Waiting For The Rain during RS tour was pretty awful. I never liked it that much anyway, but live it didn’t do anything for me at all. Also Hangin On The Telephone was pointless if you ask me

Marie in her worst - halfplayback WICF at Party In The Park in 1999. I love the way they play WICF live though.

the live version of hotblooded and dressed for success on the swedish maxi for fingertips 93 is horrid. Waiting for the rain isn’t mean to be played live to be honest, I mean listen to the demo. I’m really miffed they never tried to do i remember you live I’d kill for that. Queen of rain IMO was awful during the RS tour. and lest we forget do you get excited was so bad during the sydney show they played the video over it on liveism. There were times joyride was awful, especially the johnanesburg show, tho with some songs it depends where in the set the songs fall. Up tempo songs played at the end of a show always suck because well lets be honest, marie does 99% of the singing and after 14-20 songs I’d be exhausted vocally too. I actually liked their version of haning on the telephone, I wanted them to do a full on studio cover. real sugar suffered from the same issue as how do you do, if per was in a funk in his timing the whole song goes off. If you ever hear any of his live promos for twatg u’d wanna get your ears cut off

so say we all

I always thought it was because the clips were made for the single release, but seeing as the release was dropped they included them on the Live-Ism video.

As far as bad live songs, i’ve heard a few versions of WICF which Marie seems to struggle with, which is sad because it’s such a great song that is really nice done live.

Oh yeah, WICF on Top Of The Pops was awful as well. Just goes to show how good studio trickery can be....

I love WICF live, but I once heard a strange live version, where I couldn’t hear that superb electric guitar... I didn’t like it
And I don’t like it when Per plays the guitar with the volume turned off

At the CBB tour Harleys & Indians and Almost Unreal the vocals sounded really weak (Hannover and Bielefeld). At the RS tour IMHBL was ruined by the plan flute keyboards and LTYH was just too flat. I acutally liked WFTR. What always (!) works great live is Dressed For Success and Hotblooded!

I saw the Top Of The Pops performance with WICF and if I remember right the host actually said it was one of the nicest performances ever.

Milk doesn’t seem to work very well live. I think they should’ve done more songs that are easier to play live during the RS tour. For instance, didn’t Per state in the DBU booklet that She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore -type of songs are the easiest to play live? Seeing it as a fan favourite, and why it wasn’t in the set, is strange.

Also, trying to sound like a jukebox isn’t that necessary: LTYH during CBB tour was nice! FLAF & SMT during RS tour superb. Would’ve wished more alternative versions of songs!

Church Of Your Heart seems to change the melody in the chorus when it’s live. Also Lies was out of tune. Marie should’ve stayed more in the background, imo ;-)

The FLAF acoustic version that was included on the “Opportunity Nox” single is a pain in the ass, frankly. A ballad didn’t fit as a B-side of such an energetic song, and on top of that, it was an awful performance! The first verse sung by Marie is something better to be forgotten.

Weel, I would say, that I love Real Sugar live from Promo Barcelona, one of Marie´s best.. It is obvious, that live-ism and crash!boom!live! are bit polished in studio, and as it is usual, are bit overdubbed....and what i could hear live or like a video, how do you do, mainly it´s end is really awful, and when I´ve heard record, directly from the mix from RS Spain, Marie was really struggling in Stars and unfortunatelly even anyone and wish i could fly wasn´t state-of-the-art quality :-( She did well in older, easier songs, like hotblooded, dangerous, dressed, etc. If i should think of band, I HATE when Per is playing without mike in front of his vox, well, he isn´t excellent guitarist, but it is so stupid, because many of spectators know, that he is just holding the guitar...In joyride live, even on VHS you can´t hear his guitar, the same is handigman.... But during promo 2001 you can hear it pretty good and he is quite accurate!!! Of course, his solo in en sten is little bit “weak”, but it is part of the show!!!! And what I must even admit is big difference in Jonas´s guitar sound and playing. He did so well during joyride and he was little bit boring in both rox and mazarin band in 2001-2003, i don´t understand this. Clarence is, of course, great, both drummers are good as well, except handigman tour, where jens should do less improvisation, imho.... in the bass section, i would more appreciate herrlin´s sound....it is accurate, nice, excelently fitting.......well and that´s it. Of course I should add, that Per´s singing got better over time, but Marie´s got worse :(

@ AnimalKingdom - Jamie Theaktson was the presenter on Top of the Pops thats night and said that the song musn’t be confused with the great Orville song..... Im talking about the UK TOTP here and not the European one? maybe theres where we’re getting confused?

flaf on the opp niox single is one of the best performances of that song how the hell can you not like it. They did an amzing acoustic version of wicf here in the states during the promo for the us hits. The problem with songs like milk and wicf is that they do require your voice to be in good sahpe and frankly the songs need to be at the beginning of a set list. WIcf as burried down to i think it was the 13th song in the rs set list and by that time both marie and the band seemed out of steam. what seems to really throw marie off is having men for backup singers. when vicki was with them marie was never out of tune, when shes up on stage with that guy from the rs tour she’s alwasys off pitch trying to blend with the guy and it left for some bad performances

so say we all
