Music from Sweden

8 replies

I like many artists from Sweden. I would like to know more about Swedish music. You can write here about different musicians and/or styles.

Mariette Hansson (a.k.a. MaryJet) is a young singer from Halmstad. She has been recording her first solo album, produced by Mats “MP” Persson (yes, at Tits & Ass Studio) and Rickard Bengtsson. Mary-Go-Round, the first single, is out now.

You can listen to her music here:

Another good up and coming artist from Sweden is Caroline Larsson, Per wrote a song for her album and its well worth a listen.

Check out her music here:

Irya Gmeyner spent her early years in Newcastle, England. She moved with her English parents to Sweden but returned to York, England, as a teenager, where she made a living as a busker playing balalajka in the streets. Back in Lund, Sweden, she has played in the bands Circus Cirkör and URGA. She has recently released a solo EP.

I recommend The Sounds, Per likes them as well.

Check out songs like “Song with a mission”, “Living in America”, “Hit me” and so on.

Ana Laan was born in Madrid (Spain), but grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, in a trilingual home (English, Spanish and Swedish). She has lived in Sweden, Spain, England and New York.

Ana has recorded (backing vocals) with Javier Álvarez, Jorge Drexler (ex-husband and winner of an Oscar for his song in the film Motorcycle Diaries, where incidentally the backing vocals are all her own!) and others. She also recorded two CDs under the pseudonym Rita Calypso and was a member of the girly-pop duo Magic Whispers.

Laan has released two solo albums, “Orégano” (2004) and “Chocolate and roses” (2008). She has performed in New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Buenos Aires.

Swedish (and even Scandinavian pop in general) is awesome. There are many great pop bands from 80s, 90’s and today

Favorites;

Kent
Robyn
Kleerup ( the guy who did a “Reveal” remix

Kent.... I don’t know, I think Europe and Joey Tempest were and are much better (for rock purposes)
