Beaches in Estonia

I'm going to Tallinn in a few days and I was wondering if anybody knows if the sea is clean enough to have a swim there. I checked on the EU website and it says that Pirita beach is very clean while Stroomi beach has a red flag (can't swim there). As my hotel is nearer to Stroomi than Pirita, does anybody know if the sea is that bad there? Can you catch any illness or is it just dirty? Thanks for any kind help! PS. While I'm at it... if I rent a car is it difficult to find parking in the centre? Do they sell weekly parking tickets?

Hi, I’m from Tallinn and I can say that there are quite many people who go to swim at Stroomi beach. It’s not that bad, I have swimmed there myself and nothing happened. But it’s true that in Pirita’s beach sea is more clear and clean and most people go there.
Nevertheless, I’m not sure you can go swimming right now as the water is not warm enough. I think it’s about 18 degrees and for me it is definitely too cold. Usually it gets enough warm by August. But if you don’t mind kind of cold water, then of course you can swim already now :)
In centre I don’t think you’ll have trouble with parking, there are spaces everywhere. I don’t drive myself, so I’m not very much familiar with the parking tickets options. But usually there are little booths from where you can buy tickets. I think you should ask there.
I hope you have a nice time in Estonia!

Thank you so much! I love Estonia, it’s the third time that I go :) I quite like Smilers too, I know they’re playing live now so if there is anything going while I’m there I’ll be very pleased... only two weeks to go....

@roxlad: have you thought of visiting Lithuania as well? :) It’s not that far away from Estonia.

Hi! Yes, I’ve been to Lithuania already. Vilnius is a very nice city and I really liked the moving bar (the one where you have to pedal while you’re having a drink!!!).
I really had a good time there back in 2006. Next year I’ll probably go back to Lithuania because I’d like to see other cities and I want to go to Latvia as well (I’ve never been there). In any case I’ll be in Vilnius for 4 hours between one flight and the other and I’ll have to find something to do not to get bored. Oh my I so love the Baltic!

@roxlad: Hmm, it’s kinda hard to give an advice what to do in Vilnius when you only have 4 hours. Will you go to the centrum or will you just sit at the airport. In that case you’ll get really bored :)

@auryte: I don’t know what to do, if I stay at the airport I’ll be bored to death but if I go out I might miss the flight. Isn’t there anything just outside the airport?

@roxlad: No, unfortunately, there isn’t anything exciting outside Vilnius airport. I could be your company, but I’m afraid that I’m in Greece by that time :( So take your music player and read good books :)

@auryte: What a shame! I wanted to invite you for a coffee. Anyhow I hope you enjoy yourself in Greece. My father and mother will be at the airport with me so probably I won’t get too bored.

@roxlad: really what a shame!!! But when exactly are you in Vilnius? I take off to Greece on the 9th of August.
*whispers* but you better invite me for a cup of tea *whispers* LOL

@auryte, sorry for the late reply... I’ll be in Vilnius Sunday 27, if you can come to the airport we could meet for a tea or a cofee... I’m not sure if I can get out of the airport in between flights but if you are free on Sunday send me a message with your mobile number so that I can ring you when I’m there to tell you if I can move or not :)

Hej roxlad. Well, I’m sort of free on Sunday, but I’m going to the wild party on Saturday night. But I’ll send you a message anyway :)
