This won’t mean too much to most fans but the Australian news website News.com.au recently had a feature of all the BIG events of 1991 in Australia.

The main topics tackled were the economy and inflation but to brighten it all up, Roxette’s Joyride gets a fair ol’ mention too. They even get a picture!

Take that Whacko Jacko and what not! When it came to their peak, Roxette in this country were just as huge as anyone else!

4 sellout shows in Sydney in 1991 at a time where interest rates were MASSIVE and the economy was in a recession! But the people still came to see Per and Marie. That’s over 40,000 people seeing two geeky swedes belt out “Spending My Time” live!

Now that my good friends is pop music! :-p

Nice read, 1991 seems like yesterday to me. Funny how the price of petrol stayed in to 70-80c cent range for most of the 1990’s I remember. How things have changed.

In other Australian News there was a movie on tv the other night called Jump Tomorrow. One song sounded like a SOAP song ’Are You An Old Hippie Sir?’ just the intro part and throughout the song. Notes sound the same except just one that repeats. Sing along and see. I pricked my ears up when I heard it. It’s by Vanity Fair - Hitchin’ A Ride. Was a hit in 1969. Doesn’t Per like music from this era? :) Found 2 versions of it http://www.imeem.com/kyliezee/music/fhCnqXzG/vanity_fare_hitchin_a_ride/ AND

Nice post Roxwriter. I’m willing to bet that the journalist is a Rox fan to some degree.

If only things never changed...

I feel like watching Live-Ism now :-)

That’s pretty cool :)

I was at one of those four shows (nowadays it would have been all four shows ;) in Sydney and they were just massive! The buzz around them was huge! So sad that, soon after, their popularity became virtually non existent in this country, I never would have imagined that back in 1991 :(

But I tell you it was great while it lasted. Per and Marie were the talk of the town after their shows everyone was suprised at how great they were on stage :) I remember breakfast radio had people calling in and talking about how much they loved the shows! I miss those days...

was is still a fab album.
