why does per gessle hate so much the Heartland Cafe album?
jorgeojeda2004 said on March 18, 2008 05:33:
ok, “teaser japanese” is not the best gessle song ever, that´s clear, but there´s other wondefull songs! what do you think?
For example..The song “heartland cafe” is one of my favourites! That story could be mine! It reminds to all my friends, the one that still are around me, and the ones that, for some reason, they´re not in my life...
ditroia said on March 18, 2008 08:46:
Kiss from a stranger is the Gem of that album, [which is ironic as it’s not even on it.]. Followed by Break another heart and Run Run Run.
Cheers
Dave.
P.S. Hey Tev have you heard the Modern times album?

As I don’t understand anything related to mixing and producing, I can only say that I like the album a lot: there are many great melodies and also lyrics... Heartland café is certainly awesoem, Even if it hurts, Break another heart, Kiss from a stranger - I like them all. Teaser Japanese is may be the worst on the album, but that doesn’t make it a bad album, not at all.

Teaser Japanese has great music but terrible lyrics. Also the singer on “when loves on the phone’ sucks. I can’t be bothered looking up her name.

Per hates that album because it was a big flop...
I do like that album very much, especially Even if it hurts.. & Heartland Cafe

“Heartland Cafe” is an OK album, though it’s GT’s weakest one and I dunno why Per doesn’t like it at all. My fave songs are: “When Love’s On The Phone”, “Even If It Hurts”, “Dreaming”, “Break Another Heart” and “Run Run Run”.

That would be a good question to ask him.
Must be because it was a huge failure at home and in the USA and later he became much better vocally and musically in English. The production does sound very flat. It sounds dated but most albums do for 1983/84.
My favourites are Dreaming, Break Another Heart, Run Run Run, Even If It Hurts(It’s Alright)

I remember a gyllene tider interview in 2004, and I´m sure gessle said that (the heartland cafe) it´s the worst he has ever done.
I´d just have to find that interview and I will share with you....
AURYTE said on March 20, 2008 20:54:
Actually every time Per is asked to name his flop or his weak moment, he always refers to Heartland Café. He’s named it in a few interviews that I self heard/watched.
And I love Teaser Japanese!

I consider it so much a Roxette album that I hunted down the LP and 7” of TJ under the Roxette name!
bomkrash_kix said on March 20, 2008 23:04:
the heartland cafe has it’s good moments but also its bad moments such as lyrics that dont really fit and bad song choices
my fav songs from the album would have to be Anytime, Even if it hurts (its alright), dreaming, run run run, heartland cafe, demon emptiness
worst songs: when’s love’s on the phone, another place another time, kiss from a stranger, young girl
roxtexanet said on March 21, 2008 04:53:
@ditroia: Her name is Anne-Lie Rydé and her voice sounds like fingernails dragged down a chalkboard used to beat a dying cat playing the bagpipes. And the song is horrible - the lyrics are downright embarrassing.
But that album does have its moments... I still love “Heartland Café” and “Another Place, Another Time”. All in all, I think it’s an okay album - just really, REALLY dated. I’d probably listen to it before I’d put on “Puls” though!
Peter Halmstad said on March 21, 2008 11:29:
I agree Thomas, Puls is a masterpiece :)! However, compared to Scener I think Heartland Café is a masterpiece... Scener is, in my opinion, the worst swedish album ever made. Per sings like.. I don´t know and very weak songs. I´m also sorry to say that the two lastest albums released by the Man isn´t pretty good either. Looking forward to the remastered MASTERPIECE TWATG, thats Per at his best! A bit off topic but what a heck!
Have a nice “Påsk” (or easter if you prefer that) all GT and Rox fans out there!
roxtexanet said on March 23, 2008 20:52:
@tev: Surely you’re thinking of “Den Ständiga Resan”?? :-D
“Puls” is okay. But I *LOVE* “Scener” (and all of Per’s solo records!) - “Speedo” “Rickie Lee” “Inte Tillsammans, Inte Isär” “Lycklig En Stund” “Blå December” “Viskar” “Väntat Så Länge”... brilliant, all of them! The only song that really sounds like 1985 is “Galning” - the siren makes me cringe... (-:
Off to listen to “Scener”... starting at Track 2, of course...
tevensso (moderator) said on March 24, 2008 10:24:
I also like Scener a lot, but DSR... he he, not so much. Let’s hope he fixes a Scener re-release too!
AntiMario said on March 24, 2008 14:49:
Looking forward to more releases like Look Sharp! Joyride etc with some extra material.. I’m definetly sure there’ll be some
“Scener” is briiliant btw :D
emilio said on March 25, 2008 19:01:
I think that the worst thing of heartland is that doesn’t sound like Gyllene Tider....ok it was 1983... a hard time for rock sound but i like the album it just that it sounds really tired, powerless. I agree with tevensso, may be a mistake in the way they produced the album.
my favs are can you touch me, heartland cafe and young girl and the worst are teaser, rock on and even if it hurts... just opinions
Emil__BG said on March 25, 2008 19:34:
Heartland Café. is the best english GT album.
Don’t hate it Per.
roxtexanet said on March 26, 2008 00:19:
@Emil_BG: I agree - and “The Change” is by far Marie’s best English solo album.
!
tevensso (moderator) said on March 18, 2008 07:46:
Probably because the album is really crappy. I agree, there are gems on it, but the production is the worst I’ve ever heard. The melodies are great, the lyrics are so-so, but the production... barf!
