What Roxette Song Do U Think Is The Most Personal Of Per's....

I had a nice long weekend and really enjoyed re-hashing all of Roxette albums and an idea popped in my head and thought it would be a healthy blog and discussion w/ all the fans in here. So, my question to you is, what Roxette song do you think is the most personal of Per Gessle? Could it be an uptempo or one of those sweeping ballads.... Post your name if you’d like, Pick the song, Pick the ’lyric’ and the Reason why you think it might be his personal message.... Enjoy!

(Song:) “Breathe”
(Lyirc:) I think it all comes down to the start of the song. “I gotta come down/ I’ve been away for far too long/ My eyes look torn, they were so strong/ I wore the crown, I wrote the song/ Now it’s fading/ My life was open/ Like a window to a summer breeze...
(Reason:) To me I think it was his way of telling himself that he needs to relax a bit and enjoy his family. Also, to realize that he had/has so much success and that he did accomplish what he truly wanted. He wanted PEOPLE; no matter what color, race, gender, sexual preference; in general, to understand that he had so many messages and the only way to get it out was through his music and words. That he understood what all of us go through on an every day basis/level. Now, it’s your turn to share your thought(s). @ carbon...you were right..

I’d have to say “I Was So Lucky” seeing as we know it was written for his son. And also Listen To Your Heart, i’m pretty sure Per has mentioned it was written for a friend of his that was going through a divorce.

You make a good point about Breathe.

I can’t think of anything else of the top of my head.

Yeah, I remember reading about “I.W.S.L.” being written for Gabriel. That definitely would be a personal moment for Per considering it’s about his son and I think around the time he was born.

All mentioned above + Something happened today ; i got the feeling that he wrote this one thinkin’ of Marie (her situation in those days) and the ways he sings brings a lot of feelings.

I agree that I Was So Lucky is very personal because the song was written for Per’s son. However, I don’t think that most of Per’s songs are personal. And I don’t think that it’s a bad thing. In my opinion, it should be very hard to share something very personal with the whole world. I guess, there are some things you always want to keep for yourself and only for yourself.

However, for me Om Du Kommer Ihåg is very personal. I love this song a lot. The song is so simple, and that simplicity makes the song so personal. If Om Du Kommer Ihåg was written for Åsa, then she’s the happiest woman on earth :)

I’m gonna get dressed for success

For me it’s always been “Call of the wild”, there’s something in his voice when he sang that song; sure, the lyrics may not be has revealing has other songs he made later, but it’s the “emotion” i sens in this particular song that i love. I’ve felt it also in Vulnerable.

I would also say “I was so lucky”. But I think most of his songs written for Roxette don’t have any personal backround. In my opinion his swedish songs are much more personal.

Ingen sommar utan Gessle...

After my post I’ve wondered a bit. It souned so cruel when I wrote that Per’s songs weren’t personal. I guess, I must define what is a personal song for me in the context of this topic. Here I go :)

A personal song is a song dedicated to a person. However, Gessle songs easily become a part of his fans’s lives. Gessle ballads are really touching, and up-tempos are very catchy, so you can’t get them out of your head! So in a way, all Gessle songs are personal :)

The night is so pretty and so young

I agree with dubacik. I’ve been listnening to Mazarin today, now that’s what I call a personal album. Maybe it isn’t but the way Per sings in it…reminds me once again what a genius he is and why I love him so much. Gungar, På promenad genom stan, Tycker om när du tar på mej, Jag tror du bär på en stor hemlighet are so personal to me and makes me literally shiver...or maybe i’m in spring mood today. Spring is coming you know

wouldnt have a clue !

I agree with “I was so lucky” and “Listen to your heart” as per has already told us about the stories behind those. However, there are probably many other personal songs hidden in the roxette collection that have a personal meaning to him, but he hasnt spoken about them so we’ll never know.
