Idea about the Ultimate Roxette Site - Wikipedia style!
PerAndren said on November 16, 2007 13:33:
Hey everyone!
It’s been a couple of years now since Internet became widely popular - and I’ve been visiting a lot of Roxette sites during the years. The problem with most sites is that they are not updated that often and soon tend to feel a bit outdated (except for communities like this one).
My idea is to build the ultimate Roxette site - Wikipedia style, where everyone can contribute with information. The design should be simple, very simple, and the contributors should be diligent with adding references to the stated facts, so that the site becomes as correct as possible. Perhaps to skip different legal problems, it should not contain that many photos or lyrics or whatver, which can be found on every other site. Information is always important and most interesting according to me.
I have totally stolen this idea from the site: http://www.musewiki.org/MuseWiki , which is an amazing site about the British band Muse. It is perhaps the best “fan site” I have ever seen.
The problem is though, that I know nothing about programming homepages. But perhaps someone else out here would feel happy to rip off the structure of the Muse site so we all can get started with contributing facts?! I know a lot of stuff to write!

Go ahead. But I think there won’t be so much new information.

Yeah. Perhaps not much new. But since it’s based on the fact that nothing goes away and the database just gets bigger and bigger - it could turn out to the only source you need!
Although I have no knowledge to create this project myself, so It’s all up to if anyone who knows this stuff gets interested.

Actually I think it could turn out to be a source where much “forgotten” information turns to life again - for instance if you watch the Muse site - there is always a place in the structure for a certain type of information, for example info about every gig, setlists, memories, pictures or other stuff. And information and anecdotes about every song ever made. And since it’s all linked to eachother as in Wikipedia, the structure is very easy.

VERY cool idea. Wish I had the technical expertise to help you out )-: I think the value here is that people with almost nil technical expertise/interest in web site construction can share whatever it is they know with the rest of the world, like with Wikipedia but without the academic structure that site requires. We all have our own little anecdotes, photos, etc. but maybe not enough to bother making our own site... this way, we can just share what we have. I love this idea, PerAndren (and Muse fans!).

There you can download the Wiki-Software. In addition to that you need webspace and a database connection.
If anyone can manage to get the webspace + database connection, I might help you with the installation of the Wiki-Software ;)

Yeah, sure...if you want to pay for the copyrighting!
There are always free websites to host it on, though, thinking about it...

I applaud your enthusiasm, but question the worth of such a venture.
Roxette are hardly making the news - any news, any more.
And as you rightly say the Wikipedia Roxette page is pretty comprehensive where anyone can update information.
PerAndren said on November 18, 2007 13:35:
Yeah - there is perhaps not much news coming up, but you can also see it as a good way of “preserving” Roxette for the future. A way to make people remember the right things about this bands and it’s side-projects!
This Wiki-software makes it even more easier than I thought! Too bad I still don’t know how to pull it off!

nice idea. I’d like to help with installing or programming but unfortunately I can’t due to my back, it would mean too many hours sitting by the PC :(
I hope you find the right people!

OK. I’ve been discussing this matter with a friend who perhaps can help me out with the programming.
If I create this site - are there any people here who feels that it would be fun to contribute with information? If it’s only me writing in the end, than I guess we might miss a bit of the point with the site... So is anyone interested? (you might change your mind in the end of course :-) . )

@PerAndren: On one hand I truly support your idea, but on the other hand, I don’t think that I have much to contribute to the site, at least nothing interesting to the rest of Roxette community... Anyway, I can upload my pics from En Händig Man Tour at least :P

Maybe this could be asked under the same topic.. I am working on to create a rox-site. Actually it could be my school project. But I have some problems. Can I use Rox-pics, which I have collected from the Internet?
Espesially this (http://www.gpiste.org/roinaz/desk08_1024.jpg) one is quite beautiful and I’d love to use it. Of course I would put some text somewhere saying pics are from Roxette.se or something. But is it ok? Someone could say “who cares”, but I care and so does the guy who gives me some grade :)
[I edited www.roxette.se away from pic...]

It depends on the laws of your country so it’s quite impossible to answer that question.
Of course, I’m only talking about your school project here. If it’s for a website for the public the answer is likely no. (At least not without permission from the copyright holder.)
If you’re living in the U.S. “fair use” might cover your use of other’s work for a school project. (There’s something similar in Sweden as well.)
I am, however, definitely not a lawyer so please look into this yourself. Ask someone knowledgable or search for it on the Net. While I have studied some law, it hasn’t been anything about copyright etcetera.
