GESSLE: Swedish or English?

What do you thing about Gessle’s song. Swedish or English? What is better?

OMG...is there only just the one? ;-)

Sorry, bad joke. I prefer his stuff in Swedish

Yep...in swedish...it has something extra, I think

English or Swedish for me its the same, I don’t really care about that.......... but if I have to choose between English and Swedish, I think I prefer Swedish, only because I know that the lyrics of his songs in Swedish are not so crappy as in English are.

English. More powerfull, melodic and Roxetteish. And I can understand the lyrics.

I’d prefer the Swedish songs but with English lyrics.

I dont care if swedish or english lyrics... I love most of his lyrics... Very talented that man.

Fave at the moment is ... Ingen kann som du ... Love those songs with few instruments... :)

@Kerstin. Read a translation. Works for me.

Oh come on! They’re not hard to find!

Both are most of the time great, like TWATG and Mazarin. However, in english the songs tend to have more of that Roxette melody most of us still long for. Besides the fact that i can actually properly sing along and understand the lyrics.

Take care!

@whateveriam, let me explain it just for you ;)

I would prefer a mixture of both. I like the melodies of his Swedish songs more than the ones of his English songs. But I would like such kind of songs mixed with English lyrics just because, like Roxrider_USA said, “i can actually properly sing along and understand the lyrics” without any translation.

Did you get my point NOW???

Btw, I can really find the translation of his Swedish lyrics in the world wide net? ;) :D

I think Per’s best album is TWATG, and it’s in English and, on the other hand, SOAP is in English too and in my opinion is his worst album. So, I think the language have little to do with it.

Am I the only SOAP lover? English songs rule and so does SOAP, bring onm SOAP 2 !!!!

@Kerstin - I understand, um...I guess. If I ever get round to it, I’ll be make sure to invent a time machine, go back to whenever Sweden decided singing in English was a bad, artistic-integrity damaging THING, make sure they see ’the error of their ways’, and then force Per into the studio in 1983 ordering him to record bilingually to satisfy both the Swedish-speaking market (not that it sold that much) and the English-speaking market in over 20 years time (I’d love to try to explain that one to him - ’So, you mean I’ll be short of money for the next 3, 4 years, but I’ll be the richest man in Sweden in 2 decades time? Get outta here!”) ;-) OK, that was a little too much imagination on my part, I’ll stop!

I might be just odd, y’know, but I don’t need to know exactly what I’m singing to enjoy something. If I have an idea of general meaning (by online translation or a little dictionary work), and I can pronounce the words alright, then that’s enough.

And yes, translations are around, and just a search engine/forum visit away. ;-)

@ rossyrox, No you are not the only one, I’m a SOAP lover as well......
but I don’t think English songs rule, I f I have to be objective and leaving music aside... well...Per... poor thing, he has the writing skills of a 10 year old. I don’t like SOAP because is in English and I don’t like Mazarin because is in swedish, I like those albums because are really good, and because per is a talented musician I’m not seeking for poetry in his lyrics, his music is great and that’s all I care.

It’s super hard to choose, but I guess, I go for Per Gessle in Swedish just because I love the Swedish language a lot. Though I must agree that The World According To Gessle is brilliant!

Ehhm yes...TWATG was and still is one of the best things he’s haver done!! That album probably only works in english!

English: The World According... and SOAP are such brilliant albums! I definitely love his stuff in Swedish, but it doesn’t get as deep as the English one.. I guess that it’s because I don’t understand what he’s singing :p

Yeah, when you hear I’ll Be Allright or There Is My Baby or Saturday or Reporter, you get goosebumps. But Här Kommer Alla Känslorna (På En Och Samma Gång) or Promenad Genom Stan or Våldsamt Stillsamt or Min Hälsning or Om Du Kommer Ihåg are so sing-along-ish :D

in english because i don’t understand swedish...

of course in English,i cannot understand any swedish word,on the other hand, english sounds better and all fans in the world prefer so,swedish songs are for just swedish fans.i heared roxettte for the first time singing in english, unless i would never ever listened and loved their songs, and rox would not being such sucssesful indeed,as they are today.

I like both!

Have Fun!!!

it depends much on the melodies, but in english is better,i m listening now -thing about you”

I prefer Per’s swedish songs. They are more personal and sound much better than his english. It’s maybe also because english is anyway foreign language for him.

Ingen sommar utan Gessle...

SOAP is the only Gessle-album I have, and I love it. Marie I prefer in Swedish, though.
