music star vices

one thing that always impressed me with marie and per is the fact the fact they never got involved with drugs and pressed the self-destruct button. at the moment all the news is about amy winehouse and her struggle with drink and drugs - she has a good voice and can command attention with an excellent performance, so it‘s a shame that she seems determined to destroy herself.
as someone who has worked in the music industry the drugs/drink angle is never far away and we are always hearing of pop stars with addictions - it‘s a shame and never, i feel, taken seriously.
we only see the final performance or record and most see rock stars as spoilt and rich - but we don‘t see the pressures they are under. i remember marie commenting on the drug issue once and she said that if you want to last in the music industry, drugs will mess you up and not enable you to give a true performance (that‘s not her words, but it‘s what she was getting at). she also said that she was able to cope with the pressure of being famous because she had a good support group - family and friends.
what do others think?

Dunno about Marie but apparently Per & Co. guys were completely that innocent during their Gyllene Tider-times...
QUOTE: It’s not only summer and sun as the book gives a close look at the band’s roots and tells us the unvarnished truth - involving sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.”
“Micke Syd Andersson: ’We weren’t so innocent like everyone believes. On 5 August 1997 the book about Gyllene Tider will be published. The publishing company asked us already last summer. But then we didn’t want to release it. We thought Återtåget ’96!’ was enough. But now is the right time and the band with Per Gessle has decided not to withhold any scandals. People have always believed that we were so innocent and conscientious. But we did also some stupid things. One chapter of the book is about when some of the guys in the band tried drugs for the first time. There’s also stories about meetings with groupies and wild after parties. We were only nineteen at that time.”
