Problem with 'Sleeping in my Car' on *The Roxbox* – anyone else?
abianchi said on January 23, 2007 10:40:
Hello all,
I’ve just (finally) purchased *The Roxbox*. Cool stuff…
There is a problem with ’Sleeping in my Car,’ though. At about 2.55 there is a short but audible ’drop.’ I’ve played the CD on two different players with the same result. I’ve cleaned the disc but to no effect. The disc does not seem damaged and I got the box new and still sealed from the factory (I guess).
Am I the only one with this issue (in which case I’ll have to ask for a replacement from the shop)? If not, then there seems to be an issue with the master and EMI should be made aware of that!
Sorry if this has been posted before. I did a search and couldn’t find anything similar in this forum.
Thanks for your help, and best wishes to you all!
A.

No, I can’t hear what you say. For me there’s nothing wrong.
@ Earth: Why do you always provide two options when writing? It’s like doing a “choose the correct alternative” exercise...

Ask for replacement ;)

I say/write more options If it´s possible in any meaning because you can say/write it in several ways. That´s important.

I also have som Jitters and clippings in some Song on the Roxbox (WICF e.g.). Seems that the quality of the CDs was very low, or that the CDs are terribly mastered. The same with Unplugged-DVD: there are mpeg-artefacts inbetween. Not many, but should not be on such a release.

I just hope we don’t get “addicted” to this new style of writing i’m seeing in this thread. It’s kinda scary really!!!
Concerning the BOX issue, i believe that when Tev reviewed the BOX songs (CDs), he stated that the CDs area actually HDCDs, which mean they have really high sound quality much better than the regular CDs. But of course you need to have the proper CD players, sound card and speakers to notice the big difference. So, my point is, i don’t think it’s the sound quality but indeed a issue with the manufactoring of some of the CDs in some of the boxes.
Take care!

Thanks to all for your feedback/comments.
I am returning my box to have it replaced/exchanged.
There is nothing wrong with the mastering – it clearly is a manufacturing issue/problem.
;-)
I don’t think one needs to use two different words when both refer to the exact same thing, really. But it can be useful when there are two options you want to mention at once. So I think that ’say/write’ does make some sense. Something like ’pavement/sidewalk’ could almost be justified, too – if you seek some kind of ’International English’ compatibility…
Cheers,
A.

Actually, I’ve always noticed that weird volume shift, ever since Crash!Boom!Bang! came out in ’94. So I wouldn’t return the box if I were you– it’s a perfectly fine box.

Hello,
Thanks for the update. I’ve already returned the box and am expecting the new one soon. The ’gap’ I’m talking about was audible on both my DVD/CD player and my DVD recorder but not on a third, very expensive (CD) player I tried later on. So there definitely was a problem with the disc, that only some high-grade player could ’overcome.’
There is indeed something ’fishy’ about this passage even on earlier releases (sounds like a poor edit – they may have pieced two different takes of the song together around that point), but what I was hearing on the box was much more noticeable and not exactly at the same moment.
I’ll let you know when I get the new copy and if the problem is actually solved or not.
I’m afraid I can’t help you in regard to the location of your trousers, though!
Best,
A.

Unreal
jaja! LOL.
I‘ve noticed it late. but i will check out on mine roxbox..
i would like to tell that i have found some issues on my own . one of them is regarding to the DVD..
Spending my time video has an digitilizing error. Just before the sencond verse, when marie‘s face is pointing to the roof, you can see a green mark...
I went crazzy when i saw this...so that i run to grap all my original dvd’s and to my sourprise i found out that every single video in every single DVD has the same !! error!!!.. It confirms my dixit ” when it comes to important roxette things EMI would never make anything right”..it´s a pety.
I will post here some other facts I observed.
In the meanwhile I will ask you if you had the same problem I did, while trying to get out the CD Nº2 , It was so stuck that i gave it a short and gently ( I thought) twist and It got erasured..just at the begining of QOR..but it doesn´t “repeat indefinitly”, It only make a noice. however is a bit sad cose one would prefer to keep this things such as it should be.

What I have noticed is the really low quality of the DVD, not the MTV Unplugged, but the videos. I haven’t watched the videos till some days ago and I couldn’t believe how horrible it is.

Hi there,
So I’ve received a new, sealed copy of the box from the shop I had orderd it from – and it appears that the problem is still there: a very noticeable drop towards the end of ’Sleeping in My Car’ (much more annoying than the little glitch on Crash! Boom! Bang!).
Either there is a bunch of faulty copies here in Switzerland or all my CD players are incompatible with that track! But I assume that it really is a mastering problem and that all the copies of the box are bad. I’m really surprised that others can’t hear it, though.
And, yes, the DVD is overcompressed and ugly in all sorts of way…
All the best to all,
A.

I don´t have that/this problem on Sleeping In My Car Song/Track 15 CD2 in The RoxBox - Roxette 86-06 as you mentioned abianchi . It may be a Mispress/Wrongpress . Please tell when you know more.
