Harsh review of One Wish

Roxette - ’One Wish’ (EMI)
If you had one wish, what would you wish for? That’s the characteristically complicated premise of the new Roxette single: “You might wish for money or peace,” sings Per, “you might make a wish for cosmic release”. Or did he say relief? That would be interesting. And this is interesting also: FACT - ’One Wish’ has the worst cover art we’ve ever seen - Per and Marie look like they’ve escaped from a nuthouse at Christmas and are hiding out in the local bowling alley, where Per is getting his one wish, a lucky strike. And he gets to hang out with a crash-diet Pat Butcher while the men at the asylum crank up the lobotomy irons. Predictably our one wish right now is that Roxette fuck off back to where they’ve been hiding and never bother us again with this arse.

Haha what a tosser. He is jealous of Roxettes success.
Whats their email address? I want to fill it full of spam.

Sounds like the person who was getting annoyed when the “worst cover ever” piece kept getting removed from wikipedia for being way too opinionated! The Stars cover is far worse anyhow ~ rolls eyes ~
Room_service said on January 3, 2007 08:55:
This is their email: [email protected]
I already sent one, this is what I said:
“Dear people:
Could you let me know the name of the big a*****e - and coward - that reviews music as “JA”? You should send him back to the dark cave where he has been [[censored]].
By the way, your site sucks big time. It’s a relief nobody cares about the idiots you have as “experts”.
Regards!”
I can’t deny the cover is not the best they have done. I was not happy eithen when it was revealed here in TDR. But looking at the physical single it doesn’t look so bad. In my opinion the worst is “Almost Unreal”. Dark and boring.
What really bothers me is this phrase:
“Predictably our one wish right now is that Roxette fuck off back to where they’ve been hiding and never bother us again with this arse”.
It’s ok if you don’t like the song, but he is being too rude. There is no need in using such a harsh vocabulary.
chrisjankunas said on January 3, 2007 09:03:
Jeez Almost Unreal cover uses pictures from the “Fingertips ’93” video for some reason :S Could have been more interesting - since Almost unreal is my fav. song !
Oh - and yeah, I agree about the rudeness ! But what is this site? What country is it from? I have never heard of it before !

I love the song, that’s all that matters in my little world.

I’ve got nothing against bad reviews if they are warranted. Everyone has their own opinion, even alot of TDR users didn’t like the song. But what was written was going way to far, there was no need to write such crap!
Also seems to be based in the UK, and when was the last time the UK press said anything good about Roxette?!
BTW i think the JA might be Jeremy Allan as shown on the contacts page.
Also did anyone notice that in the last review for John Legend- ’Save Room’ the last line is “Don’t bore us, get to the chorus?...” :-P
Galadriel said on January 3, 2007 12:28:
Did you notice that this “JA” didn’t say anything about the music itself? Not about the song “One Wish” (apart from mentioning some of the lyrics) and also not about the other songs on the maxi (or the one other song on the single).
The only “real” thing he’s talking about is the cover. Well, I dislike the cover too. But one shouldn’t judge by looks only.
And yes, the rest of that review was filled with rudeness.

I think it‘s funny :-) Just don‘t take it toooo serious, okay? It‘s probably written by a Yeah-I-only-listen-to-indie-bands-like-Oasis-and-oh-my-God-I‘m-so-damn-intellectual-guy. And, by the way, he‘s right about the cover...
whateveriam said on January 3, 2007 18:46:
Hee hee, you can’t help but at least laugh a little at those types.
And, hate to say it, didn’t we all say the same thing about the cover? Just slightly less expletive filled
Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup...
’Even if I am in love with you. All this to say, what’s it to you?’
miss-misery said on January 3, 2007 20:08:
I wouldn’t take those crap comments very seriously. It’s clear that the guy who wrote that is utterly stupid, not because of criticising the cover or the song, but because of the style he uses when he writes that which shows that he knows nothing about music, politeness or respect for other people’s tastes.

I saw this months ago - isn’t it just someone’s crappy blog or something? I didn’t think it was any kind of publication that people actually read anyway... (-:
Anyway, too bad he didn’t check out the song, he might have liked it!
Jud (moderator) said on January 5, 2007 10:05:
actually this review sounds more like a summary of some of the disgusting comments we had to read on TDR when the single and cover were released - and now you wonder? ;)
Pat Butcher is the bleached woman in Eastenders btw ;)

Well, “relief” never really caused doubt to me. :P But actually I do keep wondering about this one line: “please don’t offer what I shouldn’t know”. Yes, I know also on roxette.se it’s written like this, but my doubt remains, inclusive after hearing the demo it did; are you all sure that the line isn’t perhaps “please don’t offer what I shouldn’t owe”?... (And wouldn’t it maybe be even more logical/have more sense, being like this?... All in all, ok, I know the lyrics of “One Wish” are rather repetitive, but, the word “know” (even if with different meanings, but anyway!) being repeated 3 times in 3 consecutive verses, hmm; are you all positive about this, is the text on roxette.se officially the actual lyrics?...) Anyone sharing of the same doubt?... (Or is what I say, my “know/owe” doubt, just plain nonsense?... :P Maybe I’m even more badly in need of an ear-check than that JA guy, who knows, eheh...)
P.S. I hope it isn’t topic-hijacking, to have posted this question here?... :/
RobS said on January 5, 2007 23:05:
@sweepi: i think the line is fine. I think that it makes more sense with ’know’ than it would with ’owe’. I actually think it’s a very clever lyric :-)
tevensso (moderator) said on January 6, 2007 02:54:
Per wrote the lyrics on roxette.se, that’s all I can add to the subject. I still have the .doc in my computer.
sweepi said on January 6, 2007 11:26:
No no, I didn’t wish to mean about the line being fine or not, or that it would be any more or less fine be it with “know” or “owe”, not at all! :) I was only in doubt and wondering, and seeking for some confirmation hopefully, so thanks Thomas, for kindly confirming that for me. :) Finally I can join to the singalong. ;P
P.S. And again, sorry for the little bit of topic-hijacking...

I am looking for a maxi single version of One Wish (jewel case). Does it exist? Does anybody know where you can buy it?
Room_service said on January 6, 2007 22:16:
Roxrikkie, if you live in Europe you can get it in www.cdon.com. If not, you should try in eBay.
Roxrikkie said on January 8, 2007 20:46:
Great, thanks. I live in the Netherlands, so no problem. I am gonna add another maxi to my collection! About the article; people have different tastes. It’s so stupid to criticise something which has been proven succesful. As long as my favorite duo keeps on making beautiful music, I’ll be smiling. Can’t wait for Reveal.
Lennon said on January 8, 2007 23:39:
I don’t like this track, too. but this review is pure rubbish. It says not much about the track and it says not why the reviewer doesn’t like it. If I had to rate this review, it get’s 1 of 5 stars, because it describes the cover instead of the song. You just find out that the reviewer had a traumatic experience with roxette in his childhood :-)
Room_service said on January 3, 2007 08:11:
Who cares? That’s a lousy website, nobody will notice that shit. And they should send that “expert” back to the cave where he lived all his life. In addition, he (JA) doesn’t have the guts to show his name.
