Can anyone explain how Russian CD manufacturing works?

I’m having some difficulties to understand the Russian CD market ’cos it appears to be very different from the standard international one. As I follow three or four Russian bands I would really like to know how to buy a genuine original CD and not a copy. At first I tried to order my CD’s from Russian sites translating them with Babelfish. That used to work one year ago but now those online shops will only ship to CIS countries. To solve the matter I found a lot of Germany-based Russian businesses that ship anywhere in the EU. Now the question....
The CD’s I get are very cheap, they cost from 3,00 to 6,00 Euros which make me believe they can’t be 100% original. They come with some stickers or stamps attached to the sleeve which, on the other hand, seem to garantee they are not fakes. The sticker/stamp is not always the same though. For example there is a group that records with the company Monolit. One CD has the sticker stating ’Monolit Trading’ and another one states ’Stella’.... and so on. I know that in Russia music is licensed but really I’d like to figure it out better. If anybody knows anything all suggestions are welcome! Spacibo.

Thanks for replying!
I follow t.A.T.u., Nichya, Faktor-2 and Dvaya (also known as 2R or YaYa)... in case you can read the original cyrillic spelling here it is: Тату, Ничья, Фактор-2 and Я:R.

t.A.T.u...which ones? I know where to get the remixes CD, and 200km/h Russian version (both of them, if I remember rightly)

This guy has some t.A.T.u stuff, go to browse, and scroll down to T, and it’s on the first page! Let me know if you get anything. I’ve dealt with him before, and I’ve had no trouble, knock on wood!

Do you follow t.A.T.u. too? I have those CD’s already but thanks all the same! :-)
With t.A.T.u. it’s easier because they are an international band and so you can find their Russian stuff also on e-Bay. The problem is with the other groups.

As long as they are not CD-R’s why do you even care?
But I guess you can look at the back of the disc. The little numbers engraved on the back of cd should probably match the numbers on the front of the disc and on the artwork.
Tatu I don’t like much... music is pretty good but their vocals I don’t like.
I like another girl band called Propaganda...they write all their stuff themselves and range from pop-rock to pure eurodisco stuff, depending on the album.

A bit more expensive but this is an American-based Russian store, it has an Enlgish version if you click on the top. And you can listen to most stuff as well, which is real nice.

Sveta, and Tatyana Bulanova are also fabulous pop artists! :-)

@whateveriam
thanks for the links!!! that was very kind of you!
@invisible_man
I quite like that song Melom, I will search a little on the internet for this group.
The second album from t.A.T.u. is very different from the first one, if you haven’t heard it yet give it a try.
Are you located in Russia?

Roxlad,
are you the fella from Italy.... who I spoke with about Raf, Toto Cutugno, Al Bano, Tozzi some time ago in another topic here?
I think it’s kind of ironic that I like Italian music and you like Russian :-)
Lately I’ve been listening a lot to this Italian oldie
L’amore è tutte le cose che fai,
tutti I diffetti che hai, tutte le gioie che dai.
L’amore è l’unica cosa che c’è,
è una ragione di più, lo puoi provare anche tu.
L’amore è.
classic stuff :-)

Yep! It was me! I like Italian music too but the difference is I don’t have a preferred Italian artist. I listen to some material from different ones and mostly songs from the late 90’s and 2000’s.
I still think that is very funny that a group of people from Kazakhstan were singing ’Lasciatemi cantare’ at me in a hotel sauna in Estonia!
@Room_Service
hi mate!

So what are some good 90’s and 2000 artists from Italy? I mean, I know Spagna is still releasing great stuff in Italian, more slow pop rather than disco of her 80’s fame.... she is a real diva I think.
Can anything match something like for example “Soli” sung by Cutugno or by Celentano. Is there anything with that type of profound melody. That would definitely be worthy of checking out.
I live in US now, and don’t really get to hear much Italian or French music, which at least in the 80’s was superb I think :-)
To listen to Russian music I think the best place is that http://www.russiandvd.com/store/ .....many sound samples there

I am not much into Italian music, but I think the girl in duo Jalisse has a very good voice! Her name is Alessandra, if I remember well.

I forgot to mention, but there is also Sofia (Sofiya) Rotaru.... imo one of the best vocals in Russian pop music, she’s been around since the 70’s and is still around making great melodic pop..... i guess she’s like Cher or Spagna. She sings I think in 2 or 3 languages, because she is from Ukraine or maybe Moldova i am not sure exactly. Legendary artist with many hits and staying power

I know very little about the Russian CD manufacturing malarkey, but what bands do you follow? I might be able to help a little...but I’m not sure
