Reveal - Remixed or Revisited (or both?)

I’m wondering in what way Per is unhappy with the version of Reveal thats on The Hits. Or is this just a rumor?

I know everyone has an opinion and mine in fact is that I love reveal the way it is. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to hear the new versions, be it remixes or a new version on the single.

It would just be cool to know why he isn’t happy with the song the way it is now.

If we´ll get new version(s), we can compare and let know.

I would understand him if it was true, I don’t like it, it sounds like a demo

Mr G’s unhappy with it (the recording)??? Where did you hear/read this?

People, there truly is a God!!! (If this is true, ofcourse)

Cheers cheers

well if per is thinking as I do the tempo of the song is a bit off, and the backing vocals need to be seriously redone, they sound just as bad as the ones on make my head go pop. Reveal is a stunning song and with a slightly better arrangement it would do really well, especially before xmas

Reveal is going to be remixed, as tevensso mentioned before. It is still unofficial, we’ll have to wait and see. In my opinion, this song is doomed. It should be re-recorded, rearranged, and get some new back vocalists.

A remix of the song is not a good idea. it’s going to ruin the song. They should work on new arrangements.

What? The backing vocals, bad? I personally thought Per’s backing vocals MADE the song. I thought Marie could have sung the chorus better - but I do like it as it is.

Tweak the song by all means ... but don’t ruin it like the monell mixes of INQGOTFTTBBU :s

I also like per´s backing vocals. Sounds great with oboe. I hope they´ll only change the arrangements, add some strings, acoustic guitar, some piano parts... Would by nice for me.

I agree about the strings and the piano - both instruments are definitely missing in the song that isn’t so bad at all.

new versions of reveal would be ok, but i really like it the way it is. i loved it the first minute i heard it. anyway, if there was a maxi single it would be something like this:

1. reveal (album version)
2. it must have been love (medley remix version)
3. reveal (demo version)
4. reveal (instrumental) (as featured on the dvd)
5. one wish - video (enhanced cd)

@below:edit: thanx for your idea!

Maybe they’ll add ’One wish’ video ??

I have absolutely no more info about this, but “tweaking” it is how I understood it.

I have mixed feelings about this song. I like the delicate melody, I love Marie’s delicate (sorry to repeat the word ;), sweet, sensitive way of singing it..., specially the “all about faith, all about...” part she sounds so tender, and then there’s another part, a few minutes after that, where her voice almost cracks (“...where I used to cry...”) in a lovely vocal inflexion perfectly expressing the emotion behind the lyrics. Frankly, I think this is one of Marie’s most complex vocal performance ever.

I also love the brief, sweet piano chords...

Now, my complaints: the chorus somehow isn’t as beautiful as the verses (weird, huh?), the production is irregular, and the backing vocals, I agree with many of you here, don’t sound as well as they should.

really where is the source for this info ? ? ? ? i love reveal, but a slightly more eat to it like the rox medley verson’s of IMHBL and LTY would be cool.

For those of you that have the Rox Box – there is a version of Reveal that appears as intrumental on the Videos portion that seems ... a little more... I’m not sure the word. It’s a more intense sound. Maybe sort of like how the “modern rock” version of “It Will Take A Long, Long Time” sounds in comparison to the original.

I actually love the instrumental version that is on the video soundtrack.

The source is Per, was that not clear?

Reveal sounds too empty for me, dunno why.. maybe the drums are dry... reverbless and make it sound demo-ish

i dont like this song, i dont think any remix could change my mind about it.. the verses are okay, but the chorus is really weak!!

If breathe were to be released id be alot more excited!!! its a better song by far and would suit christmas!!

But Breathe chorus is even weaker: only one word. In my opinion Reveal is better. I was never so happy about Breathe, for me is just a filler.

@tevensso & athingaboutyou: Ok, if it was Per who said that, could you be as kind as to point where can we read such a thing?

Tev got the information that he shared here from Per himself, you know, email?

I was disappointed with Reveal. If they can improve it, then hell, they should improve it.

For all the musically uninformed:

The Reveal chorus is a standard, hitmaking, contemporary, American chorus. Female acoustic rockers have used this kind of melody for a couple of years now. IF they strip down the arangements, build it back up with acoustic/electric guitars, a piano & sweeping strings then Im sure this song will be HUGE. Maybe the “tweaking” Tev refers to is just that: a bit of a fuller sound for the American market, where this will surely be the 1st single.

But like MrG says lately: “We do things a little bit different these days...”

So boys and girls, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Cheers cheers

Carbon boy, could you please name a few examples of songs with this kind of melody in the chorus? What you say sounds really interesting, and it seems to indicate that songwriters simply know in advance which kind of melody will be a hit...

I know I sound naive, let me get this straight ;) Of course there are “hitmakers”, I just mean no matter how catchy and ear-pleasing a song might be, it can completely flop. And vice versa... I’ve always thought Baby one more time by Britney was a completely uncatchy, ugly song and it was such a success simply thanks to MASSIVE airplay (MTV in those was like 45% of total air time was overtaken by this “song”!).

Reveal, on the other hand, sounds the opposite of a big hit... Maybe with a more dramatic production, a la LTYH...

brittney spears was also a scantily clad middle aged man teaser you can’t compare her to roxette, i never went through the video portion of the rox box except the unplugged so i dunno about this other arrangement, but if its that good why was it not the album version? A new mix is fine but the current version has a very nice beatles sound to it

and its not pers part of the backing vocals i think most of us hate its christopher..he always sounds like he’s yawing when he does backing vocals

@Ferdan. May be you don’t like the drums because is not the typical rox drums sound. i think.
I really love it ’couse it’s clear and plane (even without any EQ adds) you could close your eyes and see jans playing them.
On the other hand since the CBB era rox began to use a base drum programming in ballads like Vulnerable, I don’t wanna get hur’t, Wish I could fly that make a trade mark so is great to see go the traditional way i really love it, like in one wish taht they used a little bit of traditional drums in the bridge and i think and that’s suits good in my musical taste.

I think Reveal is a beautiful little song the way it is.

A hit single? Probably not, but i dont think a bit of ’tweaking’ is going to change that.

It´s great we have now 2ND SINGLE after some 5 years. :-))

3,5 years! ;-)

I agree with Neil - I love this song. Now my Mum on the other hand who always loves their slow ballads thinks that something is missing. She’s not keen on it really. I do think that the last chorus is missing extra vocals and higher loader notes (know what I mean??) but still I love this song.

I don’t want a dance remix of it really, maybe with extra guitars it would be even better....

@Sascha: You don´t understand me correctly. We had singles, but ATAY was 1st single from TBH and ON was 1st single from TPH. Last 2nd single was Real Sugar in 2001. It was exaggeration. I thought that good days are back, that we will get more singles from albums, not only one.

I really liked the oboe the first time i heard it, i think that’s what keeps me listening. It’s a really nice song, but with a little tweaking it could turn out a little better, add a little more depth or something to it. What Paul mentioned sounds good.

Dance remix... i think would ruin the whole vibe of the song.

Abysmo: Ah yes, now I got it! ;-)

Reveal is such a boring song, the only good thing is the intro with Per’s vocals and maybe the chorus, but the rest is weak. Maybe OW is a poptune for small kids, but it doesn’t bore me

@Sascha: Hope we´ll get 3rd and 4th singles again in the near future. ;-)
@Wicf: I agree. That´s the reason why I´m currious about tweaking... Hope they “repair” it.

If Reveal will be released as a single, so Roxette could play in some TV programmes, like now with One Wish. Maybe in the Czech republic...Who knows...

Any news?

I can’t understand why this song should have a remix cause Per himself said that
the 2 new songs on the cd is up to par with all their other big hits, so why bother

I find it particulary funny that you think that way ... cause i see it all the other way around:

1. Needed some sort of oustanding change on arrengements and a couple of instruments to make the songs sound more epic somehow like a true big ballad. Though I have always looked at it as its simplicity in sound (just a drum, a bass and a oboe) quite amazing. A different way to deliever a great ballad without having to sound like past ones.

2. I love the chorus (like the way Marie sings it and how the all vocals and instruments come together at it... it’s probably the most deeper part of the song, the more instrospective and moody... though the lyrics end up not saying much). The verses are fine in fact they give me the exact same feeling as M&T&H ... I see no difference at all. They share a lot on the melody. And I also agree this songs showcases one of Marie’s best vocal performances now that her voices sounds deeper and serene able to still deliever a real emotion in a different new way.

3. If the songs is going to be “remixed” then there is a total wrong interpretation of the word remix in here: it has nothing to do with dance mixes and stuff. It’s just provinding a new backing track maybe, changing instruments and arrengements as we all agreed that that was a part to be reviewed.

4. I hope for “Reveal” to rise as an outstanding song in the future. If not then for me it will remain as another great one ...

I’m very surprised. I love Reveal. It’s not as good as Breathe, but very good still - and much better than One Wish imo. I especially love the backing vocals. But let’s see what the future will bring.

Nothing personal against Chris doing back vocals but I actually never been a big fans of his ... LOL Marie and Per doing them here would have sound more magic and beautiful ... That’s what I think :)

Same here, I never liked Chris on backing, I prefer Marie and Per on Backing

Heard “Reveal” on SWR3 about one hour ago. And indeed, it’s a “revised” version, which is a bit shortened and includes some further backing vocals. And additional “mmmh”s.
Nevertheless, no big alterations.

Interesting, any more arangements or additional orchestra? Or remix sound?
I´m curious about cover of Reveal, if it will be released.

any mix that makes this song more exciting would be good before a single release ...

I wonder if the U.S. version of the Hits CD won’t have the “new” version of Reveal on it?

i dont think they will be one. i wont count news by word of mouth. only in statement , plus i believe it when i hear it lol.

i guess it would just ruined the spirit
