Modern Times - The way to Roxette

All we know that Gyllene Tider (Modern Times when they recorded in English) was the pre-Roxette band. I have put together the titles of their - at least 40 - English songs (adding other related English songs by Per or Marie). I have not listened to the ones with (***). Those tracks named PP&tH are really played by Gyllene Tider and they are all covers as far as I know. Usually with Swedish lyrics written by Per.
Lantartida said on November 9, 2006 13:33:
I put “Peter Pop & The Hellicopters” in the first songs according to the information in http://gyllenetider.eu/eu_gt/root/_agraphy.php.
“(live: Sweden 1976/1979) Vocals: Per Gessle. Piano: Mats MP Persson. Electric guitar: Per Gessle and Mats MP Persson. Bass: Janne Carlsson. Does not appear on any release.”
I guess PG + MP means “PP & TH” in 1976/1979, but I am not sure about it.
Edited: I found perhaps a better name. ’Per Gessle’s and Mats MP Persson’s pre-Gyllene Tider band, GRAPE ROCK.’

popped home to find the tape that I’ve got AS and KMLS on, but it’s broken :-( Wanted to hear them again :-(((

Luckily someone copied them in your mail before the “accident” ;)

Gloria, California Sun and Proud Mary are very well known songs from the 70’s/80’s. They’re covers of internationally successful songs.
Gloria is an Italian song by Umberto Tozzi covered in English by Laura Branigan and in Swedish by Carola.
California Sun was a hit in the 60’s with The Rivieras and the 80’s with the Ramones (covered in Swedish by Gyllene tider under the name Tylö Sun).
Proud Mary is one of the most famous songs of American band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
So if you want to listen to them, you sure can find the versions by any of those people.

Think I have “Heartache tonight” somewhere on the tape but it’s not by GT and is TV rip from Bad Rock (?)

I had the Frida LP that Threnody was off but it got destroyed. I actually liked the song and am convinced I once heard it sung by Per somewhere!

Destroyed? rossyrox, you must be kidding. Frida’s version is the best, and the song really fits her voice. The version sang by Per is totally awful, sorry. He is not able to deliver such a song in the best way as possible.
rossyrox said on November 10, 2006 22:52:
I didn’t mean I destroyed it on purpose, I was clearing out loads of old rubbish and I stood on it and when i opened the sleeve, the record was snapped!
I agree though, superb tune best sung by Frida!
Room_service said on November 11, 2006 03:21:
Sorry, I misunderstood your words! I should read more carefully. I thought you meant to say Frida destroyed the song with her own version, LOL. By the way, you could get that album on CD (it was remastered in 2005). It’s a great album. I Know There’s Something Going On rocks!

Did someone know more about Martin Sternhufvud (AUDIOVISUELLT ANGREPP, STRUL, MaMas Barn)? I read he was Marie’s couple and that he didn’t want to play together with Gessle. I wonder if he continued singing after MaMas Barn.
Lantartida said on November 13, 2006 23:07:
Let’s assume it: not a very interesting topic yet. Well, let it die with the others. ;)

I don’t think it’s uninteresting. But it’s probably too hard what you’re asking.

petter glenister apears on the credits (song writter, i always thought it was per’s nick name or alter ego)
Room_service said on November 17, 2006 19:33:
Unreal: Pete Glenister is the name of a British guitar player. He is not Per, no doubt about it!
“Pete Glenister is a fully trained doctor who prefers to play guitar. He was Kirsty MacColl’s guitarist before becoming a producer and working with people such as Bruce Foxton (The Jam), Alison Moyet, Johnny Marr and Terence Trent D’Arby.”
He also played the guitar on Frida’s (former ABBA member) second English album, “Shine” (1984) and also contributed a song for that record.

Most of the original post is just bogus. But yes, there are Gyllene songs in English. Check out www.gyllenetider.com and see the titles there.
RJ1976 said on December 14, 2007 23:44:
I knew that ... But not all these titles :-)
Tevensso I gotta ask... What means Bogus :-O ?? ...
Lantartida said on December 15, 2007 12:05:
Sorry, one year ago I did not want to post any “bogus”. I just tried to put together the titles of “lost English songs”. I used some sources: roxette20.eu, gyllenetider.com, dailyroxette, ... I honestly did not want to generate a “mental confusion” to any fan. Sorry again.
PiR_GeSSLe said on December 20, 2007 01:00:
Amazing lists! Thanks for the data! I always new Per had formed another band when he left the first GT formation because Janne was there, but I never knew the name of it.
I know a fan who has a sound clip of “That girl in a Cole Porter song”. I could listen to it once, but as she had got it from a secret source, I couldn’t get it. But believe me, it exists!
Threnody by GT is featured as a bonus track on “Puls”, it’s not that hard to get... the rest I haven’t heard’em either myself.

Oh I’d love to listen to the Peter Pop tracks. I’ve heard After School and Keep My Love Satisfied, but I’d love to hear the others.
