anyone give me any ideas where to get a ’decent’ laptop at the cheapest prices? do they exist under £300?

Dont know specification but just something to surf with and keep photos/music files etc. 180euros is about £120 thats really cheap! wasnt sure if Ebay was ’safe’ for that kind of thing.

I ordered at a professional seller who had only positive comments in his profile. So the risk was rather small. Keep watching the ebay market for a few weeks, set a limit and stop bidding if it gets too expensive. I bought mine on a Tuesday afternoon, during weekends the prices are often higher.

Depends on what you plan to use it for. I got mine from ebay for 180 €, it has 400 Mhz/128MB and is fine enough to GPS me through Europe and surf in the internet without trouble.
If you want to use it for graphic design, you will need to spend at least 500 € on it; if you just need one to measure the time that that thing needs in order to fall from the 4th storey to the ground dont waste more than 20 € for it. ;-)
