Roxette Discontinued... HMV Canada

I was in Calgary for 2 weeks during the time I thought Roxette’s newest CD would be released here in Canada. I went to a few HMV stores and couldn’t find a single Roxette CD. The 4th HMV store and I decided to ask for assistance. “She has been discontinued”. I asked with my eyes wide open ” SHE?”. “The band with the blonde girl... they have been discontinued in Calgary.”
I mumbled some bad words and got out of the store. I had steam coming out of my ears. I was missing Vancouver more than ever. How dare those cowboys...
When I got back to Vancouver, I decided to check more stores out. None. 0. There was 1 DBUGTTC CD in one of the stores. That is it. The biggest surprise of the day was to hear that “Roxette has been discontinued from this store” for the second time.
Now I wonder, in the wake of releasing a new album, or having released a new album, what does “Roxette has been discontinued” exactly mean? Freddie Mercury died 15 years ago and Queen is still selling. Both Per and Marie are alive, knock on wood, and Roxette is still releasing albums and they are discontinued?
All I can say is: pfffffffffffffffffffft. Shame on whoever in charge!

OK, and I thought the drought here was bad!

That doesn’t mean they’re gonna start deleting albums is it? (DBU...well that was a given, but everything else?)

could be a number of reasons, i know alot of companys have self deleted before.

The people who’re working in the record selling businees probably know much more then us. About what artist that sells and not.

And if they do not want to sell Roxette anymore, it’s probably cos they dont sell enough records anymore.

It’s all about making money, which the might not do on Roxette. Sad.

Down here in Salt Lake, 1 out of every 5 stores I’ve been to doesn’t carry Roxette or has like only “Look Sharp!” or “Joyride” as the album and that’s maybe no more than 2 CDs of each. But for the most part, I can find em. Virgin Megastore seems to be the only one that carries the “widest selection” of their CDs.

well I think it helps if the albums have been released in the country or maybe not lol. I havent seem HAND in roxette section in years or RS again just Joyride mainly.

Hmm... they’re still seeling Rox CD’s in my part of Canada. When I went to Music World the other day they had a copy of the new greatest hits, DBUGTTC and one each of the Pop & Ballad Hits.

@Damineh: Try A&B Sound on Seymour in Van. I’m actually quite surprised that HMV didn’t offer to order it in for you... it seems that BestBuy and FutureShop don’t have it listed on their site either - for some reason only Amazon and EMI’s own music mail order service seem to have it.

As an interesting aside, it looks like EMI have pulled the Roxette catalogue from iTunes Canada so that they can sell their music through their own PureTracks music service instead. How annoying.

Here in New York, from time to time i can find many of Roxette CDs, but of course, some of them are imports.

Take care!
Carlos E., New York.

I’m surprised that you can still find copies of Don’t Bore Us - Get To The Chorus! in record stores!

I understand the anger feeling but I am not even a north american and Yet I am not surprised with that situation.

Just one add: we can’t compare Roxette, as being seen a quite nice but probably not very oustanding rockpop band, with a group like Queen that are considered as “legendary” music ... We have to be fair on this issue here no matter how much in love or not we are for Queen and Roxette’s music.

At the end of the day it’s all an music industry downfall and not a single interess in music ... cause that’s just art not the money making ... and that is so clear and obvious in the north american music markets (even with radios being so “hesitating” in playing music). In a country like the USA that is so multicultural and so filled with different individualities even in music those differences are reflected and therefore music is not longer a universal bound is more about playing the music that sells the most and the one that connect to a specific group of people ... I guess Roxette are not part of none of those 2 ....and I also believe that Canada follows US’s path on that same level. Saddly...

Maybe it’s got something to do with the move from EMI to capitol records?

Dave

Rox_Nox2003: I’m a Queen fanatic :). I like to see their records there and you can never compare Roxette to Queen.
LittleSpookey: We had a very nice Virgin store. It was sold to HMV. Now it sucks.

I don’t mind ordering online. What I don’t like is how Roxette has disappeared. There are all these other non-legendry bands whose albums are still out there. To hear “we are not carrying that album at the moment” one thing; To hear Roxette is “discontinued” is just unbelievably disappointing. A&B Sound always carried better selection of CDs and I will check them out for sure. I don’t see albums selling big if they are not even ordered. Unfortunate. Frustrating.

Roxette’s cd’s has been discontinued in South Africa too. We don’t get local releases anymore, we only get Dutch imports. Sometimes the large cd stores are out of stock for months before they get in new Roxette stuff. EMI South Africa only prints the new cd, Roxette Hits at this stage. Even the RoxBox is an import!

Virgin had imports. Have never seen imports at HMV. Aghh.

HMV in the UK has imports once in a blue moon, and often it’s metal! Damn damn damn!

Might see the odd import in HMV, but mainly the Manchester store...

It could be just in Calgary, the GH & GH Deluxe can be found at any HMV here in Toronto

well if its any hint as to how things went in america this is how it stands. CBB is out of print and discoed in the usa, joyride and tourism are in olimited prints I think ls is too but its hard to find

There’s a record store in Baltimore called ’Record and Tape Traders’ that has more Roxette then they know what to do with. They seem to always sell out of it, and they always get in imports and hard to find Roxette things too.

But everyone else doesnt sell Roxette here. Go figure.

usalauren says: “...has more Roxette then they know what to do with. They seem to always sell out of it”

I’m sure this would be the case in most places. The problem is to get them to stock them in the first place.

Havent been to an HMV for a while, I think the ROX20 Hits are on the shelf here - in downtown Montreal’s HMV, according to my roomate. I know it has been a good supporter for Roxette in the past, carrying all the albums including HAND and RS and TBH/TPH. I got HAND there back in the day, and they even had a special offer at the time, of getting a special WICF promo single along with purchase of the album, for free!

It’d be a shame to see that change right at this point in time.
