roxette at UK no. 22 with "Roxette Hits!"

Without any real promotion, Roxette enter the Uk charts at 22 !
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/albums.shtml
:) Didn’t think it would be this high personally but “Hurrah!”

ncurran: Na ha! I got there first :D
Buit yeah considering there was no real marketing scheme ! And with todays charts made for rubbish ! I think the GH has done very well. Perhaps it could spark interest from EMI UK afterall. I dunno if it will.
At least Roxette isn’t completely dead in the UK though. Still Top-40 or even Top-30 :)

So there were 21 albums that sold better last week. Well, that’s not super great (i know other pwople will think so, at least)
Hopefully it can be better, with some more promotion.
But nice to see them on the charts again.

It is also # 17 in Ireland this week! I think these are very good chart positions!
Pascal said on October 22, 2006 18:18:
Entering at #22 without real promotion is REALLY GOOD.
UNFORTUNATELY it is way too late for EMI to start a real promo campaign (with TV ads) to push it even higher. Stupid record company.
chrisjankunas said on October 22, 2006 18:18:
Hmm. When I saw that Sting got to #24 with his new album last week I was worrid for Rox - but it seems the Roxette GH has placed higher. I am surprised, pleasantly of course ! :)

Ha Ha two topics the same with just a minute between Chris and Neil posting... bet you could not do that again! lol
roxtexanet said on October 22, 2006 20:57:
#22 really is excellent by any measure (and it could still go up from here - it is, after all, a collection of songs you already know). We have to keep in mind that albums of all new material by people like Janet Jackson aren’t even cracking the Top 50 in the UK... certainly this position is better than “Room Service”’s was!
abysmo said on October 22, 2006 21:13:
Can you help me with Room Service position? I know only HAND 28 and The Ballad Hits 11. Thanks.
ncurran said on October 22, 2006 22:01:
abysmo, Room Service was #120 as far as i can remember, and at that position it is probably more copies than it sold in the UK!
eBay said on October 23, 2006 07:16:
What are you guys talking about, saying without real promotion? I live in Ireland and saw the ad for Roxette Greatest Hits at least 10 times last week alone! One of the ad’s was shown just before the X-Factor final came back on, this is prime time TV promotion!! What more do you guys want? So it seems like 22 is the highest this album will chart in the UK and I still think that this is a great result!
ncurran said on October 23, 2006 07:54:
Well I never saw the advert once! Maybe I just don’t watch as much TV as you.
eBay said on October 23, 2006 07:56:
Believe me, last week I was not even watching a lot of TV as I was moving houses etc. But especially on Living TV they showed the ad on every second ad break..
eBay said on October 23, 2006 07:57:
@roxtexanet
Well, I doubt that the album will last in the charts.. there are other acts that are more known in the UK at the moment, like Danii Minogue for instance, she released a Greatest Hits recently and left the charts after a short while..
gizmo said on October 23, 2006 10:22:
No 22 at this time of the year is good as sales between October and December are loads higher than at other times of the year. I am pretty sure that no 22 now will have sold more than 11 for Ballad Hits which was out in the Spring.
ncurran said on October 23, 2006 10:54:
“But especially on Living TV”.....that kind of says it all really..if all emi’s promotion budget stretches to is a crappy cable channel that will never have more than a few thousand people watching at any one time. Betting than nothing, of course, but if the GH had been promoted better I am sure that it couldve had an even better chart position.
carbon_boy said on October 23, 2006 12:23:
I think this will wake EMI/Capitol and other major chainstores up.
Posters, instore advertisement, etc will probably follow now from EMI. And the cd will probably feature prominently in the shops as well with the other new releases, etc.
Cheers cheers
ally77 said on October 23, 2006 12:29:
I think it did well... I saw the advert on Living way to much!
RobS said on October 23, 2006 13:20:
Good too see the UK still knows good music :-)
Hope to see a similar showing here in Oz, but i somehow doubt it :-(
Ingo said on October 23, 2006 13:35:
Was the UK-release of the album earlier than in the rest of Europe? I just wonder, that the first charts result we get is from the UK and I couldn’t find charts entrys from Sweden, Finland, Norway or Spain which are more Roxette succesful countries than the UK?
abysmo said on October 23, 2006 14:28:
Swedish charts (album and singles) ( http://www.ifpi.cz ) are updated every Thursday 12 am.
In Czech Rep. ( http://www.ifpi.cz ) charts are updated during Wedneesday afternoon. So we must wait.
I don´t know when other national charts are updated.
I was also surprised that the first results comes from UK and Ireland.
roxtexanet said on October 23, 2006 14:32:
@eBay: By “real promotion” I mean a single release with video and radio airplay, TV interviews and performances (not really EMI’s fault - P&M seem to be picking these very carefully), etc. Don’t get me wrong - TV ads are wonderful, but they shouldn’t be the only promo either.
eBay said on October 23, 2006 15:30:
Okay, I do see your point..
But people, please do not forget that there was an ad on TV just before the most watched TV show in the nation.. now that is amazing! My heart almost stopped beating when it came on!!

I was in my local Tesco on Sunday and they had it as their “CD of the week” so I’m assuming this was the case in all Tesco’s nationwide. This included a reasonable sized photo of the CD too.
