Roxette at Bravo Gala - Good & Strange

Well said, Sweepi and Mikalex...!!! ;)
Love you!!! :D

Hey everyone,

i’d like to point out some things about the gala yesterday evening. For me it showed a lot about Roxette and maybe their future as well:

1. The Pictures shown on TV haven’t been the performance during the gala. It was prerecorded. You could see this at the end of the performance where Marie and Per thank the fans - in the picture that was shown they don’t speak at all. The only pictures that were shown directly from the gala are from the very back of the hall. That means: They performed during the show, but the pictures shown are (most of them) from a prerecording.

2. None of the pictures shows a close-up from Marie. There had to be a special agreement to show Marie only from a wider range.

3. During the performance you could see what Per means when he said, Marie has some moving-problems... I don’t like to specify this anymore, because it’s too sad...

4. They performed “the look” instead of OW. I think this because this was a lot easier to perform for marie, because she knows the song so well

So - what does this all mean?

1. It’s a miracle to have them both back on stage. It’s a miracle just to have a new song like OW.

2. I think Marie won’t be able to do any bigger show under “normal” circumstances. No tour, no promo.

3. For all people who are waiting for a new album or maybe a tour. Don’t expect that to happen. We can be happy if we get more Roxette stuff in the future.... today i don’t expect anymore roxette albums. And if there will be an album, there will be no tour and no promo. And therefore it will be hard to sell an album...

Last thing i’d like to say: Don’t get me wrong, i’m a fan since 1989, i have all their records. But the performance yesterday showed me the real shape of the band... and to be honest Marie & Per never told us anything else... maybe I didn’t want to believe them. Until today.

byebye,

Martin.

Roxette have come this far i dont see anything stopping them really from recording at least one more roxette album.. and even if they dont 20 years is a long time to be in a group, so we are very lucky to have gotten what we have got!! not many bands stay together for so long!!

and im sure iread a interview where marie said it wud be fun to record a new roxette album?

i dont think per or marie knows what the future for roxette is at the moment, they just enjoying the celebration of rox20 ,so that means they have not called it quits yet! :) if there was there plan i think they wud of sed that this rox 20 releas is the final one from them...

Well, certainly we all know the shape the band is in now, and certainly a concert or mini tour is something I don’t dare to expect any longer despite Marie’s comments about ’maybe doing such a thing’. One more album, however, if they should really decide to quit Roxette would be at least a nice way to call it an end.

One the other hand, is there really any need for Marie dancing on stage to Per’s pop tunes? No, not really I’d say... just look at artists like Elton John... Ever seen him going absolutely crazy on stage? I certainly didn’t. What I can see happening still is rather some acoustic / tuned-down gigs at some stage with Marie singing ballads and slower songs (just look at recordings of previous concerts... IMBHL, SMT, LITTLE GIRL, etc... plus... MTV Unplugged). Just watch the MTV Unplugged concert in the RoxBox... no fashionable dance movements on there by Marie was was xxx months pregnant at the time of recording, and still it’s one of their best gigs in my opinion.

Hi!

I saw the Roxette performance yesterday and I must say that it made me very sad .... I really thought that Marie is feeling better. It was really sad to see her move so slowly and uncertain on stage - she will never be the Marie again that we used to know .... Maybe they should have chosen a slow song to perform. And yes, I think that it would be possible to do some things like the unplugged concert, but Marie should not move on stage or try to dance. I´m also a fan since 1989 and I really wish her all the best and of course it would be nice to see her again one day live on stage , but I don´t know if this is realistic.

The selection of The Look instead One Wish, I think is ’coz it was the first hit in the US, and the gala was to celebrate the 50 years of Bravo, so I think they had to sing the song that made more success, or the most outstanding... and Marie already did a presentation with one wish, and she did it very well. I expect everything from Roxette. They are alive and they can do anything they want!!!!

Who gives a shit how Marie moves?!? Honestly, lets not be so shallow here. Just because someone has become slightly disabled or whatever why should they no do it if they want ! !

...Martin, i see things different.

Marie looked good - you could see her face almost close up for a short time. both seemded extremely happy doing this.

Yes, Marie moved different, but she is trying, she has fun, things improved so so much. Roxette is on their way back, no doubt!

Why would they do this?? Because they believe things will work out for them again, because they love being Roxette, they love being together, and together with their fans.

Everything is possible for Roxette. And if they make 2-3 Albums or 9-10. They can be Roxette being 81 years old, why not.

The audience was fantastic to Roxette (I was there): Almost the whole audience got up from their seats for the first time during the show when Roxette came, they stood during the whole song! Thats a good sign.

All in all: yes, it’s different. no, it’s not the end, it’s the start of a returning, gaining it’s power back - Roxette.

Peter

God some people..... Marie didn’t break a bloody arm you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought she looked fantastic!

DivX version is also avaible here:

(DivX, Dolby Digital-5.1) - 53 MB.

and I thought it was about singing and making good music :) I agree with Marcus, I don’t need to see Marie hopping around to enjoy her shows, she could sit by the piano an hour long and I’d be in heaven :)

Of course she is not the same person, we must be happy because she is alive after all. And the most important thing for me, she still has the stronger voice of always.

yay to people’s views.
someone put it on youtube, i cant work out that site. roxette.cz :-S

I think that it’s just GREAT to see them together again. I have a coworker that went through chemo therapy to cure breast cancer. She finally was told she was cancer free but the chemicals that they use to cure her affected several parts of her body. She could not hear very well, could not see very well, she was forgetfull, her arms hurt and she could not move the way she used to. Think about chemo therapy as poison that they put in your body to kill the cancer. How do you think your body would react to that. The good news is she also told me that within a year her vision and hearing was back to normal. Her memory came back gradually and her motor skills were back to normal. At the begining of the March(I think) Per said that Marie’s hearing and vision was no good and that would affect her singing. Well, after a few months he said that her singing voice was back(which also means she can hear better. And, according to what I’seen at the presentations, she can see well too). Now they’re both saying(specially Marie)that there may be another album or promo or short tours. I think thing are looking good and it will take some time for Marie to be in top shape to tour again. If she doesn’t want to that’s a different story. It’s just a matter of time. Aside from being really happy to see them perform together again I really love the fact that you can acutally see on the photos and interviews that they really enjoy being together. It’ also really sweet the way you can tell Per is now really affectionate and caring towards Marie. Well, what can I say, they haven’t lost that CHEMISTRY and SEXUAL TENSION between them that payed a huge prt in their success. LOVE THEM...

I think it is fantastic to see them again, performing together.
after all she‘s gone through it is incredibly amazing to have a happy Marie back.
I‘m sooooo proud of her!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes, the unplugged show is really one of the best they‘ve ever done!
One of my most favourite is “heart of gold”.

We should be grateful!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had tears in my eyes too, when watching the show!!! But I´m deeply thankful, that Marie is still alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Marie looked a little stiff up there. Otherwise - business as usual.

edit: Answered my own question - should read other threads before asking questions that might already be answered there!!

I can only repeat myself of when they performed at “Världens Barn” (http://www2.dailyroxette.com/smalltalk/thread.php/17293?p=3). That what I said then might pretty much have been saved for today just as well. The whole feeling remains after watching them at Bravo: “just” THANK YOU Per & Marie!

*****

I was commenting about this (regarding Roxette’s appearence at “Världens Barn”) with another fan friend and somehow felt like sharing the thought here too...

About the performance, and what I think about it, well, what can I say? I cried all the way and I can only be grateful, that Marie has been and is up to take the effort of joining Per and both together bring back Roxette and do these performances (playback or no playback, live or not live, pre-recorded or not pre-recorded, I couldn’t care less!). :) I couldn’t feel any more happy and any more thankful, for and to them both, and I only wished they could feel, even from a distance, the warmth and care and love from these many of us and be sure that there is a countless number of persons/fans out here who do enjoy and appreciate what they are doing! :) (This is actually the one particular reason why I do regret that the performances can’t (but so they can’t and we should only understand) be done in front of an audience, in contact with us, the fans: so *them*, Per and Marie, and so especially Marie, could really *feel* the warmth and care and love, live and for real. :))

It only sadens me that, in some occasions, some people tend to forget or disregard that it was a *brain* cancer what Marie has gone through! Not any other form of cancer, not affecting any other part of the body, but a cancer affecting the brain, the one part of one’s body which commands and is responsible for making everything else function as it should. And it sadens me that, in some occasions, some people tend to forget or disregard the sequels that such an affection and consequent treatment can cause to one’s habilities/capacities.

I only wished everyone could realize and always bare this “detail” in mind and try to be some more understanding and patient and respectful and supportive, and at the same time thankful, for the effort that is being made, as obvious by Marie in particular, and also by everyone else involved, Per so especially also (besides/in addition to everything else, he is in some way being Marie’s “guardian” [I’m sorry, I lack the proper word, or a better one, but I guess you understand what I mean?] and that is possibly THE most beautiful thing to see and share of all things in “the new Roxette post Marie’s illness”; the mutual respect and support, between them both, and simply the friendship, prevailing and shining above all else; and I’m not only referring to this new TV performance, but for instance their first appearence together for the BMI awards last year, or the generous way he has, in every moment, protected and preserved her during the illness times [and even us, the fans - I can pretty much picture the hysteria that would have been if we had been faced with such statements like “I don’t even think the chance was 50/50 for her to make it.” or “There have been times when no one believed Marie was going to survive.” at the time... - You know, there was an interview on the 8 o’clock news the other day, with a terminal cancer patient, and she was saying that the most painful thing for her was “that the others have to live my illness”... Suppose she was right...]...). (And God you can see/feel it in this performance all of Marie’s heartful effort; the difficulties, the fragility; and all of her effort to go ahead and make it the best way possible, and that only goes to show the bravery and enormous heart of her, in being up for taking the chalenge [and overall expose herself; again, the difficulties, the fragility; in this open way], something which the fans, instead of always being on the hunt for another reason to complain and/or demand, should feel really proud of and grateful for.) Cos if these performances are being done, even if in the conditions it’s being done (i.e. playback and pre-recorded; and being these the conditions by which things can be done at this stage, again, we should only understand), they certainly are, on top of it all, being done for us, the fans, to enjoy (c’mon don’t anyone come and tell me that they’re doing such performances for the sake of additional success and fame and glory!). And you know what? I CERTAINLY ENJOYED IT AS MUCH AS ONE CAN!!! :D And at the end I have only two words about it: THANK YOU Marie & Per!!! :D And bring on the Bravo gala and Bingolotto!

Anyway, sorry, for the longish lines, but, after watching the video I really felt like “letting the thought out”... (Cos some words from some fans, sometimes, really are revolting and hurtful, and then one watches something like this performance and... At times I feel so angry and disappointed with some fans’ attitude, and then so very sad, for Roxette [Per & Marie], and especially for Marie... I just wished everyone could always be more thoughtful and be more sensitive, before they’d jump to say some of the nonsense [and in moments, even cruel] things they say sometimes, that’s just it... Not that most of such things ever get to be actually read or heard by Marie and Per anyway, so ok, no harm done in the end, why bother or be uppset about it then anyway, one may think; ok, but, still... the fact that such things don’t actually get read or heard by Marie or Per doesn’t erase the fact of them having been written and spoken, and this alone, just the fact of them having been written and spoken... it hurts and sadens me [me, at least] just as much...)

You know, we have a saying here, that goes something like this: “don’t take a step bigger than the leg (reaches)”.

Just don’t push to rushing what can’t/shouldn’t be rushed and allow time for things to happen in their own time. Allow for each next step to be taken at its own pace.

Remember: patience and perseverance are a virtue. (And that goes also and just as much for us, the fans.)

When you have a dollar (figurative), you can either be sad and frustrated, cos you could have two; or you can be happy and thankful, cos you might have none. Instead of looking at what you get, and think of what more you might have gotten; look at what you get, and think of what you might have missed. I feel Marie is happy and thankful that she has her one dollar. And I sure am too, and even more that she is up for sharing it (even if it may be “just” one dollar).

Stick with what’s positive about things instead of letting what may appear negative rule your judgement. Let hope and believe shine brighter than fear and speculation. Or as it’s usually said in short: look on the bright side. Why not?

Hi to all, when I saw the perfomance yesterday I first of all was very happy to see them on stage again. I had tears in my eyes when I saw all the fans in standing ovation. The real Roxer know what it means to have Marie back on stage. Her movement isn´t the same anymore, but she gives her best- for sure and I thing that one wish came true for both of them.... and for us all!!

Maybe we get something new the next year, maybe not, but I think we should be happy to have all this at the moment....

Well said!!
I love you guys, and i love Marie with all my heart and soul!I’m sooo proud of Marie!

Marie is alive and, on the same way we waited to see her healthy, now we have to wait to see her coming back to her normal life.

It was a serious illness, she has gone through very difficult days, but she has shown how strong she is. I’m sure that, soon or later, she will be OK. She only needs time.

And we have to be patient.

I am still a little confused about their performance.

Is this correct:
- What was shown on TV was a pre-recorded version of “The Look”.
- But they were also present “live” at the gala and performed “The Look” for the live audience while people at home watched a tape?

Almost - what was shown on TV apparently was a combination of both - the shots with the audience (and the sound, it seems) were from the performance on Saturday, the more closeup shots were from the prerecorded performance.

about recording new albums...

as I remember correctly in 1994, when “CBB” was released, there was this interview on MTV called “Rockumentary” with Roxette, and Steve Blame asked them, why they keep recording new stuff, becasue they are already reach and famous and reach everything its possible and it was Marie who answered “it’s the only thing we can do...”

and that sentence make me believe that there will be new album some day...

call me stupid...

Is very emotive to see to RoXette again in a stage ... and I agree with the opinion of sweepi :D

I’m proud of Marie, she never gave up. She’s so strong And that they´re trying to make the least amount of news out of this is even better. ’Cos there´s a lot of raw material for press and stories. Roxette as usual, wants to be known ’cos of their music, and nothing else.... something I’ll allways like about them.

I’m totally agree with sweepi.
I cried watching the Bravo gala, and i cried reading what sweepi wrote too.
I have no words to explain what i feel coz my poor english, but sweepi did it for me.Better impossible!!
I feel terrible sad when i read many fans are being so cruel and negative about Marie. It hurts me,hurts me so bad.
But thank you sweepi and THAX GOD for bring Marie back!!
