I Wanna Be Like Per! Need Oppinion...

For years I’ve listened to Roxette’s music and now that they are making a half-way decent “comeback” I wanted your opinion. In highschool I had my hair grow out so I could look like Per during the early 90’s (what I like to call the “Joyride” years.) So I created a myspace webpage to pay tribute to Roxette and how they inspired me and to push me in so many ways. I never paid attention to music until I dicovered their cassette tape “Look Sharp”. I really didn’t want to put this out but my band “OppNox/Slove Project” said this would be perfect because they (and myself) consider ourselves to be a Roxette-related band now. I always wanted to write like Per and sound like Per (pathedic–I know!) So what do you think? What’s your oppinion.... http://www.myspace.com/sloveproject

You answered your own question.
I think you should stick with your answer. You might have something there.

I think it’s great if you get inspiration from Per’s music ’cos he is a damn good songwriter but I think you should try to add a bit of your own too and not try to be his clone like having the same hair cut etc.

@ Roxlad- you are right. I didn’t know very much about music. I learned by “studying” it on the radio when I was in highschool. This was before I learned who I liked and for what reasons. And the day came when my sister was out and not home and I went in her room “fingering” her gizmos, music, pictures. I went through quite a few of them but discovered this “off”-white cassette tape–almost grey. I recall an album title “Look Sharp”. Reading the song titles I thought this was going to be too girly especially with an album named “Look Sharp”. I’m like, okay, know ones home and there shouldn’t be any judgement if someone discovered me listening to it in my sisters room? Right? So then it happened the guitar intro that changed my life! It was so amazing. My ears were in auh. Is this possibly something I really could get into? Yes, was my answer when I heard Per’s gritty, puckish vocals growl “Walkin’ Like A Man, Hittin’ Like A Hammer...” Getting back to your response “maybe too much like Per, more of your own inner music”–(basically), I just had no one I looked up to. My Dad and I were not very close (I would discover reasons in the future). I’m actually crying right now. There’s no word to describe it. It’s something from your soul. Crash!, Boom!, Bang!–there’s my idol. I sat there and listened and listened and listened and listened and yes, once again, I found not only my idol, but my life. I just wanted to be like my idol, my hero, and hope I could hear their music forever–as long as I live. And so far, their doing a damn good job. I discovered who I am now 33yrs later.

And by the way, I’m Gay. Had to get that out. Wish I Could Fly sums up Roxette–beautiful.

Quote “I discovered who I am now 33yrs later”. that’s good! I was and still am very attached to Roxette too. I grew up to their music and had them near me in every situation, happy or sad so I can see your point. I see them in a different light now (still a good one!) a more mature approach if you will... I hope the joyride will continue!
About you being gay, it’s not a big issue I think. Other people (sometimes your own family) may think it is, but you should know by now that it’s nothing to be ashamed of! I hope you have come to complete acceptance ’cos if you haven’t it can be very difficult at times.

vtech101, Go Somewhere New does indeed sound very Gessle-ish, more Gyllene than Rox but still, you can very well hear the influence. Great job, man!
So, Lake Zurich, that’s about 33 miles away from W Lawrence Ave & N Western Ave in Chicago( where I reside), according to Mapquest. My point is, let’s get together sometime. I’d love to meet another Rox fan , I know from experience, they’re all great people! :)

Love your songs!! :D

Vtech, so no plans for you to visit Chicago anytime soon...?

Rox On!

From the suburbs originally, living in Champaign now. Yay to fans in Illinois!

IV ROX- I go down to the city probably every other weekend to enjoy live music at Schuba’s Bar or Duffy’s. I’ve seen some real talent and that’s where I run into other musicians. It’s actually a lot of fun. You can “network” w/ these people and get ideas off one another.
P.S. Thanks to everyone w/ your kind comments on the songs. Again, I owe it to Roxette.

I like it.Good job :-)

And IV_Roxx is a great man too . Best wishes Ivo :-))

Ha-ha, Emil_BG, you got my hint:)

Vtech, how about we make a Rox tribute band?
I’ve sung The Look in karaoke bars, and people go crazy!!!
Thanks for the tip!

lovely voice, i like it :)

wanna be like per? get some botox and a penis enlargement...

that was rather uncalled for.

Why don’t you just try to be yourself?
That is always the right way to be successful in whatever you do!

No one sees Per wanting to be anyone else he idoltrates, do we? So wanna “be like him”? Follow his example... and just be who you are!

i agree

A good song, and I can definitely hear the Per/Roxette influence in the lyrics and some of the melodies/harmonies. Not sure if this is intentional, but I can also hear a bit of Dire Straits in the guitar parts.
