Like Maries albums where all re done and are lovely sounding and crips. sound roxette do same ? all big selling albums but so old looking (ie case/ paper type) and sounding now.
what u think ?

Well I always thought that remastering of the old albums is a must but now with the rox box out and most tracks being re-released I’m not sure they’re going to do it. I don’t know if the tracks on the roxbox cd’s are remastered but surely they must have done something to them to make them sound not so different to newer tracks.

I agree with both Santi and roxlad. Now we have RoxBox with a lot of albums tracks. Let’s wait for the 25th anniversary :)

I think re-releasing singles in a box would be cool. Every single they came out with in its own seperate “jewel” sleeve. Yes, I know the RoxBox is coming out(or is out) but that’s on one cd. It would be cool just to see the Joyride single in a jewel sleeve again (that tye-dye cover was groooovvvy!) or even “Fireworks”. Well, I’ve said enough.

Re-releasing the singles in a box is a total waste of money and something I’d never spend any money in. What’s the point in getting a big, heavy pack of 30 (maybe even more) CD’s with only 2-4 songs on each one? I have to admit I got the ABBA’s “25 Anniversary Collection 1974-1999” that gathers 27 cardboard 2-track singles + 2 extras. And I never play them. I got the set because I have no ABBA singles (they were all released on vinyl back in 70’s) and I wanted to have the sleeves. And it was not expensive either. But Roxette released loads of singles on CD, I think there is no reason in releasing all that stuff again in single format.
About the albums being re-released, I’d pick only Look Sharp and Joyride. There is a big difference if you compare the sound of those with HAND or RS. Tourism and CBB sound pretty decent (at least for me) and I wouldn’t invest any money in getting them again.
Edit: I don’t know if it is possible to add any bonus track to Tourism. I guess the CD is full and there is no room enough for any bonus.

i wasnt meaning for the fans, i was thinking the next generation fans, they would like a newer whole album ! plus u dont get a whole album in the rox box , and some folk dont wanna buy a whole box set and i dont blame them.

That would have been the right thing to do for the 20th anniversary, if you ask me. Look at the great packages of the Eurythmics and Depeche Mode re-releases!! Really no contest.
LS would indeed benefit from remastering, I don’t think, too that e.g. CBB needs remastering; even Joyride seems to be mastered pretty well. (Sorry, I cannot say anything in English this morning.)

They even remastered The Centre Of The Heart for the 2003 compilation. So I guess they can release everything remastered.
Joyride does need a lot of remastering, it sounds ok, but very low volume these days. It could sound brilliant.
About Look Sharp, I’d re-record some parts :D It sounds so much “80’s” that some songs sound a bit ridiculous today. Very weak soundscape actually in many of them.

Hi guys,
If EMI decide to remaster + re-release a couple of Roxette’s old albums, they’ll probably just do them all - Just like they did with Marie’s solo records. My only negative with that box set was that the albums were each given the exact same design (so that they matched, of course), when really all that’s needed is a matching set of spines to make the set sit nicely on the shelf. They sort of lost their original identity. Having said that, for a box set that was intended for a Sweden-only release, it’s fabulous.

If they are gonna remaster them based on today’s standards Im not gonna buy them!!
Nowadays mastering is crap!!! 0 dynamics... the sound gets compressed to be the loudest possible and the dinamics get lost forever.
So if it gets done, I hope it´s not based on today’s mainstream standards of American music in general...

@Santi - it’s sounds 80’s? Well it was released in 1988!! lol :-)
i think that the albums are perfect like they are. I really can’t see them remastering them after they are releasing the majority of the tracks on the RoxBox.

the sound on joyride and LS are not good though compared with latter releases you have to admit that ?>!

“They even remastered The Centre Of The Heart for the 2003 compilation. So I guess they can release everything remastered.”
This is pretty much the result of both ’The Ballad Hits’ and ’The Pop Hits’ entire albums being “mastered” by George Marino. The ’Room Service’ album was mastered by Chris Blair. Since Marino was mastering the albums as a whole he mastered all the tracks, including the newer ones. So while audio differences may not be heard he gets credit for the mastering.
As for remastering the albums I think all albums could benefit from a fresh audio upgrade. I remember fans were whining when Eurythmics’ ’Peace’ album got reissued and remastered because it was released in 1999 and “didn’t need a remaster”. I was pleasantly surprised at how much better it sounded being only 6 years old (the remastered release was issued in 2005). It all depends on who does the mastering and the technology used today.
While ’Have A Nice Day’ (also released in 1999) may not benefit much from a remaster I would be curious to hear the differences a different mastering engineer could bring to the album.
’Pearls Of Passion’ could use another upgrade as well. It was remastered in 1997. It could sound so much better still using 2006 technology. ’Look Sharp!’ sounds pretty flat and dull. It’s in desperate need as well. Both ’Joyride’ and ’Tourism’ need a lift and clarity added to their sound as well. And yes, even ’Crash! Boom! Bang!”. Compare “Run To You” from ’The Pop Hits’ to the original album.
As for ’Tourism’ and possible bonus tracks, there’s enough room to place “Fingertips ’93” at the end of the album since we didn’t get it on the box.
In any case, I really hope EMI goes ahead with album remasters. I don’t want to have to wait until their 25th anniversary. I would also be happy with a singles box of some sort. However, if they play on reissuing the albums I hope we finally get these extended mixes/remixes and U.S. mixes tagged on the end or as bonus discs packaged with the original albums.

Yes, re-mastering is all good and well, but then you lose the authenticity of the original recording ie the sound at that time. That’s what I like about like about the early recordings - the clarity. TWATG onwards has loads of distortion. The tracks haven’t got that clarity anymore, with the exception of some slow ballads.
Just my opinion

I’d like to have the old albums remastered but with no change in volume, actually the newer albums should decrease in volume. That’s because the CD architecture cannot handle very high peaks so if the volume is too high they get cut-off from the waveform. I’m not a technician so it’s quite difficult to explain it for me but if you rip to a pcm file for example Beautiful Things and you open it with a wave editor you’ll see what I mean.
