Stupid ebay!

I was trying to get an account there, but I got this stupid message:

“Registration is free . However, we require a credit or debit card to confirm your identity. This helps keep eBay a safe place to buy and sell”.

Credit card? What the hell, I don’t have one. So, it means I can’t get an account until I got a credit card (maybe in 10 years I’ll have one). So, registration is not as free as they claim. This is frustrating.

I remember when I set my account up 3 years ago, if you use a proper email address rather than a free HOTMAIL / YAHOO account then you don’t need a CC to register! :)

... Unless they changed the rules!

I also have an Ebay account but no credit card.

How did you go on RS?

My email is not a Hotmail/Yahoo account. It’s in a local site called www.argentina.com

I also tried other alternative emails, but I still get the same stupid message about the credit card. I don’t know what else can I do...

Might want to contact them as They should allow you to join. Which ebay are you joining?

Dave

I am trying the international site. I have contacted them and they said I can’t skip that step regarding the credit card. If I don’t have one I can enter one of a relative or a friend. That’s what they said, but I don’t think anybody I know will allow me to do that.

If anybody has a spare account, please let me know (heh)

When I registered at eBay Italy, I didn’t have to put my credit cards details.. I guess it depends on what country you’re living in..!

sounds like “fishing”. some guys pretend to be ebay and try to get to know your credit card number to steal your money.

don’t do it!

I never use a creditcard online. It’s one of the most unsafe things you can do.

I’ve used my credit card many many times online and never ever had a single problem. The fake ebay/paypal mails and stuff is really easy to see through, so I don’t get why people think that is such a threat. Use common sense and you will “survive” out there! ;-)

Superbullie, I got that message when I tried to get an account, in the website of eBay. I didn’t get that notification via email. So, it’s 100% real and not a treat.

weird, I was never asked for a Credit card there :S

I remember when I registered I had to wait for them to send me the password or some activation code per snail mail, but that’s all

eBay UK use to always ask for a CC... actually they still do as I had to provide one for my mum’s eBay account last year! (when I set her up...)
