"One Wish" vs. "Reveal"
ally77 said on September 11, 2006 20:22:
Okay so let’s see if we can start a discussion on the two new songs “One Wish and “Reveal”, for those lucky people who heard them already….
Please stop asking and putting emails in the topics wanting the songs, as the topics just get closed….
Can we at least keep one topic going, about the two new recorded tracks this year…. After all some people have waited a long time for this…
Kiwein1 said on September 11, 2006 20:24:
I go for OW. I wouldn’t have thought this when I heard the snippet for the first time. But it’s just catchy and doesn’t let me out. I am humming the tune all the time.
Reveal is nice, yes. But I simply don’t like the production. Marie is singing it great though.
ally77 said on September 11, 2006 20:25:
Can someone be so kind as to perhaps put the lyrics up again... to both the songs!

One Wish, cos of the early 80’s sound (S and S era Depeche Mode)
fabi_salisbury said on September 11, 2006 20:29:
i think One wish is nice, although no surprises in there....
Reveal doesnt sound like Roxette at all, which makes it rather special i think... Marie sounds really unique... very natural and refreshing...

here again:
One wish
If you had one wish, what would it be?
If you had one wish, would it be about me?
Just one wish, could it be about me?
You might make a wish for money or peace
You’d make a wish for cosmic relief
shade by the trees and green summer leaves
Well I was thinking that hey-hey-hey
maybe one day
a wish of you and me
yeah hey-hey-hey
maybe one day
a wish of you and me
Please don’t tell me what I don’t need to know
Please stop offer what I shouldn’t know
I don’t wanna know what doesn’t show
If you had one wish, what would it be?
If you had one wish, would it be about me?
Just one wish, could it be about me?
’Cause I was thinking that hey-hey-hey
maybe one day
a wish of you and me
yeah hey-hey-hey
maybe one day
a wish of you and me
Waving high, then down below
shine your light
down here below
oh one wish
one wish
one wish
one wish
Hey-hey-hey
maybe one day
a wish of you and me
yeah hey-hey-hey
maybe one day
a wish of you and me
—————————–
REVEAL
Everything here, close to me
is just the way I want it to be
It’s all about faith
it’s all about trust
all about luck and all about lust
My wish comes true
my wish comes true
I don’t mind showing for you
I reveal everything for you
Just about anything
Could it be night
could it be day
floating in space
I was drifting away
You’re making me warm
You’re making me high
I feel like laughing where I used to cry
My wish comes true
my dream comes true
I don’t mind showing for you
I reveal everything for you
Just about anything for you
I reveal everything for you
Just about anything
I don’t mind showing for you
I reveal everything for you
Just about anything for you
I reveal everything for you
Just about anything for you
Everything for you
Anything for you

I love them both, and they are both so different that it is very difficult to pick a favourite at this stage. One Wish is a great, catchy pop tune....Reveal is a kind of different sound for them, but its a lovely little ballad
ally77 said on September 12, 2006 07:18:
After listening to One Wish a bit more... it’s very HAND era song.... it’s almost like the song could have been written back then!
I actually could imagine this as a Eurovision track! lol

I haven’t got a fave at the moment.
One Wish - just as i predicted - perfect in the car with volume turned up!! Amazing! Cool production, but could’ve done with more guitars.
Revel - Wow!! Goosebumps with the chorus. I love it. Different to previous ballads, that makes it special. I was waiting for Marie to do last chorus belt out, but nevermind.
Overall, very impressed with the two new songs!!
DEFAULT_GREEN said on September 12, 2006 10:30:
One wish sound very clean and new.
With both songs I feel they should have spend more time on the vocals. diction of the words accents ect....
rosetti said on September 12, 2006 10:42:
well, I have been listening to the songs while biking to work and I thought they were both lovely! They’re so different and have their own strenghts so to speak. I love how in reveal Marie’s voice sounds so breakable, it’s an intimate song and it gives me goosebumbs. One Wish on the other hand is a nice and uptempo song which gets stuck in my head. Although I don’t know the lyrics yet I keep on humming it to myself...... I guess it depends on what mood you’re in though.
What do you think of the lyrics? Green tangerine??? Cosmic relief??? Per is on a roll again!
Jakubek said on September 12, 2006 10:47:
I feel a little bit disapointed with “One wish”. I like it but I expected something better. This song needs time to be liked but I’m affraid the ordinary people won’t have enough patience as we have.
However REVEAL is the one of the best song which I heard recently and for me one of the Roxette’s best. It’s not a typical Roxette power-ballad but and it wouldn’t be a hit but it’s beautiffly arranged, so gently sung. And wonderful oboy... Everything sounds like it comes from depth of their souls...
room-service said on September 12, 2006 11:00:
The chorus of OW is very catchy, but I really don’t like the synthesizer, it sounds so cheep. The beginning is also not the best, Marie is definately the rescuer of this song. I think non-fans won’t like it.
Reveal is nice, Maries vocals are great, but thats all - it’s way too boring to be a single. It has no clou at the end, from the beginning till the end it’s always the same. I wonder how I didn’t fall asleep when I heard it ;-)

2 room-service: I agree with Reveal but One Wish is great song. And I love the intro. And this intro became main melody. Very Gessle-ish, very Roxette-ish. Another compilation of everything what´s Roxette about, like years ago How Do You Do! was. Funny, poppy, bubblegum, summer song. And Marie is back and she sings really great. Looking forvard to video, possible single success, possible new album(s). I do Believe.

That´s Roxette these days! I like it!
Reveal is also very nice!
Good work Mister Gessle!
thomasc said on September 12, 2006 12:52:
REVEAL is a fantastic song. I really think it’s Roxette at their best.
ONE WISH...am sure it will grown on me but it’s not as good as I expected it to be from Marie’s comments. I’d give it 7 out of 10.
Reveal 10/10. Marie’s vocals are perfect.
I’m really looking forward to getting the RoxBox and taking a trip down memory lane.

I really like OW its a catchy pop song - Roxette style nothing to besuprised over. At first I didnt like Reveal thought it was a slooow ballad with no Roxerre in it at all - but after a few listenings it grows
ncurran said on September 12, 2006 17:56:
“Roxette style nothing to besuprised over”
Exactly...it is classic roxette, which is why i really dont get why some people are disappointed/unhappy with it. Though it does seem like the majority like it. I wouldve actually expected a more negative reaction to “Reveal” (though i love this one too), as it is not really a typical roxette sound

I do belive OW is an outtake from HAND session.
Just pay attention to Per’s pronunciation (very similar to M. Jagger’s, btw) on this track. It’s exactly the same as on TWAG or on HAND...

THE AFTERMATH OF THE NEW ROXETTE SNIPPETS/SONGS!!!!!!
Edit - I would hope that file sharing never takes place on TDR ever again - after all Roxette’s releases must be protected if the band is to sell enough records to be succesful - Please people consider this next time if Roxette ever release anything.

pro_roxette_movement said on September 16, 2006 08:47:
People seem to feel that they and others are entitled to have these songs that haven’t officially been released, as a previous message indicates.
I don’t need to get over myself, but are people going to be able to get over the fact if EMI ever track them down and it could already be in progress that they may have to pay compensation to the artist and record company for loss of earnings?
There are plenty of cases on the net where people are being sued by record companies because of illegal file sharing etc, you just need to look on the net. Anyone with an attitude (if they have one) that it isn’t going to happen to them - well they shouldn’t be shocked if it does.
Roxette needs to be protected if they are going to sell numbers of records in order for their record company to keep them or re-new a contract. If files are constantly going to be shared then this can possibly put Roxette’s future at risk because if they can’t sell records then no other record company may be willing to pick them up.
In order for us to ensure we will have new Roxette material to listen to in the future then surely isn’t it every fans responsibility to not support file sharing.
Also to a comment earlier in this thread that some people have been waiting a long time for these songs. Yes that’s right we all have but surely people could have waited another 4 weeks for the official releases. I get the impression people seem to think that they should have these songs now.
Starting this new thread which of course is going to get people’s attention is only inviting other people to enquire and ask for the songs as the comment above.
Btw next time people meet Per or Marie are they going to let them know that they were one of people involved in file sharing their songs?
In all else Roxette would have now lost faith in this site.
Further - I have seen in a recent thread that has been edited by two moderators that anyone on this site pointing anyone else to or where to get these songs from through file sharing before the release are to report it immdiately to the moderators - I trust that the moderators are then passing on these details to EMI.
I also can’t understand the mentality that a very small minority on this site now think that it is unfair to point other people in the direction of where to get these songs. I would think that EMI has the same mentality that I do.
There is however one thread on here that hasn’t had a lot of responses that points people to where they can download the song - by paying for it - that of course is alright.

kielroxer said on September 17, 2006 10:25:
hmmm. took me quite a long time to read EVERY comment in this thread. just have to say something to some people here:
@prm: man, you seem to have too much time to waste on comments that i would call rather unintelligent. more words do not mean that you are more right. sad to say, but the more you write down here, the more i think it would be useless to start a discussion with you. you wrote
“Just make sure that if you “people” are going to reply to this that you make it an intelligent comment but the problem is you don’t like being told………”
have you read the topic of the thread??? do you think that your comments have a relationship to the topic of this thread??? and why the hell do you think that everyone who disagrees with you is stupid? i don not like people who think that intelligence just runs through their own brains. that is not intelligent at all!
@ ally 77 / topic of the thread
i like ow, but i have not heard reveal yet. but from the things i could read here sure i like more ow, since i am addicted to those catchy powerpoptunes since 1987...

I’ll try to answer a few of pro_rox:_movement’s questions:
Also to the moderators of this site I have noticed that you are in different parts of the world obviously different time zones
** We are in exactly two time zones, and while one was asleep the rest were at their respective jobs. We all prefer jobs that pay before jobs that don’t pay.
MY QUESTIONS TO “ALL” OF THE MODERATORS ARE :
Why did it take you so long to act on this sharing of snippets (or songs as some posts have suggested) via email?
** Because we have real jobs and can’t hang at this forum all the time, sad but true.
Why wasn’t it stopped sooner?
** Same reply.
Why has there been no official statement as to what happened on this site?
** We are discussing what to do, and if to write about it.
Are you disappointed that it happened on your site?
** I am personally very disappointed, however not surprised.
What do you intend to do to ensure this never happens again on this site?
** Lars (LEO) is looking into this.
Have you been contacted by EMI or Roxette about this?
** No.
Is there an investigation into how it happened by yourselves and/or EMI?
** Yes, but I can’t give any details at this point.
What are the consequences of this event – have Roxette lost faith in this site?
** We honestly don’t know, but I don’t think so. We have always proven ourselves to be a good site.
Will this site be closed down or will the discussion board now be removed from this site?
** We are discussing this, and we don’t know yet. We’ll see what the future brings. The staff feels bad about the whole situation right now.

Just want to add that what happened the last days was just kind of the last straw. Not only the filesharing but what came with it when we stepped in. The situation in the Small Talk has gone worse and worse the last weeks, and months. People get more violent and enjoy fights more than ever, and it is starting to get tiring to spend evenings moderating instead of writing nice articles or getting nice goodies for the readers of the site. And on top of that, being insulted, questioned, getting annoying emails when we try to do (part of) our work (=moderate).
It doesn’t help either when people create fake accounts - as if we wouldn’t know and be able to track them down - in order to insult or make such posts. Why can’t you come clear? What are you afraid of?
So yes, this has to change. The first step is the set of rules which you can find on the “TDR” forum:
http://www2.dailyroxette.com/smalltalk/thread.php/16524
The second will be to start banning users for real when they cannot stick to the rules. Until now we’ve banned very few people from TDR, this might change in the future.
If this doesn’t help, then we’ll have to think of more drastic solutions, which might include closing Small Talk. If that doesn’t work either, then it might be the end of TDR.

It’s just my imagination or some posts have just dissappeared?
It would be a pity if this site was over, I hope people will be able to relax just a bit. It is as if all of you are feeling such a degree of anxiety because of Roxette’s come back that you just can express it fighting :(
pro_roxette_movement said on September 17, 2006 14:05:
To the moderators - Thank you for your responses.
I have also modified my previous post.
I would hope that this site isn’t closed down, however it is clear that file sharing should never again happen on this site for new Roxette releases.
This is the only official/unofficial site that fans of Roxette have - but in that case surely we must all get behind the band that we love so much and support them.
After all I would prefer to see many new releases from Roxette in the future - but if what remains of their record sales is placed in jeporady then EMI being the record company it is might very well drop all existing support it has for Roxette.
Hopefully everyone can now move on and enjoy Roxette’s 20th anniversary - but please do not file share again on this site.
I haven’t heard any of the new songs in full but will be very pleased to hear them when they are officialy released, reading through many posts on here it would seem that the majority of fans are very happy with the new songs.
Jud (moderator) said on September 17, 2006 15:06:
If you have more questions about TDR please use the TDR Discussions forum. You can read more about the rules and “status” of TDR here:

Let’s keep this discussion separate, please :)

i just dont think people really realize the dammage the really vicious criticism and file sharing has done. TDR is one of the few valid regularly updated sourced of direct info from roxette regarding releases etc....i wonder what the relationship is like now that per has seen what people have done and what they’ve said. I used to straddle the fence with the whole p2p idea...On one side i was very pro sharing back catalogue and bootleg stuff, but new releases not even available now readily get pirated to the detriment not only of record labels but the bands as well. you can argue all you want that per and marie have tons of money bal blah, but you know because they are ” established” this is all now basically a hobby, and when a hobby stops being fun you stop participating in it and i fear the way things are going theres very soon gonna be a long dry speell from roxette
davidc4 said on September 18, 2006 08:57:
after hearing them both i have to say that One Wish is my favourite, though i didnt like it at all at first.
my mates were singing the chorus to reveal without realising it coz it got stuck in their heads.they werent too happy coz they dont like to admit anything good about Roxette :)
I would give
One Wish 3/5
Reveal 3/5
good songs, not their best but decent enough...
ally77 said on September 11, 2006 20:24:
So I have to admit One Wish was a pretty average euro pop song, and very roxette style, I think a little like Stars! Reveal I have not listened to much, but I do like it, but it takes some getting into for me, a little like Breathe!
