Best Romantic movies

Recently watched Green Card, with Girard Diaprdieu... been a while since I’ve seen it, and forgot what a fantastic romantic comedy it is
Also love Ghost, and Sideways....
What are some of your favorites?
ally77 said on July 11, 2006 07:01:
Ghost....
I don’t really do romantic films, I watch them but once is normally enough!

I have to add The Lake House with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. Love the chemistry.

Pretty Woman, Serendipity, City of Angels, Pride & Predjudice (2005 version), The Bodyguard, Dirty Dancing and of course Titanic!!!

I acutally really liked “Love actually”. It put a spin of what REAL WORLD love is like, instead of the fake Hollywood type thing (I’ll bet they invariably divorce in the end, romance be damned)....Ah maybe I am just cynical.
The first Meg Ryan romance I watched was “Sleepless in Seattle” and I thought it was very very cool, Until I watched all her romances and thought, hmm, anyone else notice the similarities?! :D In spite of this, I like Meg Ryan, I think she is REALLY sweet looking and has that innocence about her.
Here’s a little twist to the topic..which onscreen kiss gave you the shivers?????? Mine was the kiss between Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe in “Last of the Mohicans”.

Can you believe I still haven’t watched Titanic in its entirety?! I was so excited when I heard that they were making the movie, I used to be fascinated by the Titanic and read several books about it. But then I heard it was going to be a romance....well that was the end of it.

The Lake House is one I want to see as I am a Sandra Bullock fan!
Invisible_man said on July 11, 2006 16:50:
Oh, I forgot about Bodyguard and Dirty Dancing.... those are great too.
Last of the Mohicans is great too, in it’s own way. But Braveheart probably more so :)
Titanic was a nice movie... but I don’t find it that romantic, sorry

“In the Company of Men” is a stupendous date movie. Guaranteed results.
denny said on July 11, 2006 23:39:
Dirty Dancing, Green Card, 6 Days 7 Nights, You’ve Got Mail, Cherry 2000, Ghost, and a few great Serbian movies: Nije lako s muskarcima, Mi nismo andjeli, Lajanje na zvezde.
Majdy said on July 11, 2006 23:44:
I don’t really like the romance in Titanic movie either. I think it’s kinda “ruin” the movie. It’s too typical Hollywood. (I know Meg Ryan’s romance movies was always in Hollywood style, too, but I just love her so much :D :D ) I still like the movie, though.
Santi said on July 12, 2006 13:58:
I watched “Mi nismo andjeli” (“We’re not angels” is the translation, right?) some months ago.
It’s funny, but I found it rather weird, for what I remember, with the angel and the devil all the time around. Maybe I’m not used to Balkan cinema :p
denny said on July 12, 2006 16:03:
Yeah Santi, that’s the one I think has a translation to English. I just hope you saw first one, not the second. Second got released a year ago and is not funny at all, and the first one is very old. I really don’t think Serbian jokes could be so funny when they’re translated. At least not that movie. I think it’s the most favorite Serbian movie ever, among our people, together with Maratonci trce pocasni krug. :) I’m glad you saw it. :)
Invisible_man said on July 12, 2006 16:26:
I forgot “Prime”...recently saw it with Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman, very good chick flick :)
9 1/2 weeks was also rather romantic... in it’s own sexually depraved way :)
“You’ve got mail “was also good, I agree.... though I am not a big fan of Meg Ryan.
“Wedding singer” was also very good... to think of it so were “Anger Management”, “Click” and “50 first dates” with Sandler
But most of these are still not as good as Green Card or Ghost... at least imo
kachina008 said on July 12, 2006 20:48:
I’ll tell you what’s a romance movie! “the scarlet pimpernel”!!! what I wouldn’t do for a Sir Percy Blakeney after me! :D
Santi said on July 12, 2006 21:47:
I have also “Maratonci trce pocasni krug” on DivX, but I can’t watch it because I’m not able to make the subtitles match :S What is it all about? (sorry for going offtopic if this is not the kind of movie we’re talking about here).
denny said on July 13, 2006 07:15:
Yes we are offtopic (sorry everyone) cause Maratonci is the best YU comedy ever. It’s a classic and oh god, very hard to explain what is it about. A crazy family and heritage... money... love... :) Everything. So many good jokes. We are still using them in everyday life. But again, I’m affraid it won’t be so funny for someone to whom Serbian is not native language. :S I hope you will find good subtitles and let me know what do you think. :)

I like “Serendipity” with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.... one of my favorite actresses nowadays
Also “An Officer and a Gentleman” with Richard Gere and Debra Winger :-)
of course need to mention “Gone with the wind” and “Waterloo Bridge”, great classics
Majdy said on July 17, 2006 20:27:
How about the movie Normal? (Jessica Lange and Tom Wilkinson). It’s not really hollywood typical romance movie, but after I watched it, I thought, “That’s what love really is about.”

Electric Dreams, and Pretty In Pink. Pretty Woman, I REALLY have to be in the mood for (ill, usually)
Majdy said on July 18, 2006 23:46:
I only watched Pretty Woman to hear IMHBL, maybe I’ll like it if it had Meg Ryan :), it’s funny that Meg was the first choice to play Vivian in that movie, but she rejected it. Also, Julia Roberts was the first choice to play Annie in Sleepless in Seatle but rejected it! (thank god!)

Moulin Rouge, Brokeback Mountain, Pride and Prejudice
@ Invisible Man You’re right Prime was great!
Debora said on July 21, 2006 18:15:
“The Bridges of Madison County” with Cleant Eastwood and Meryl Streep. Beautiful.
denny said on July 24, 2006 23:52:
Oh, I knew I will forget at least one movie. Add Ladyhawk with Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeifer to my list. :) That is a cool love story!
coyboyusa said on July 30, 2006 15:28:
i can’t believe there is a person on this planet that can sit through moulin rouge and not wanna tear they brains out through their nostrils lol
whateveriam said on July 30, 2006 21:21:
Its possible, trust me. Pretty In Pink is a great romantic movie, despite the fact that originally it was geared up for Duckie to get Andie at the end, but the ending was changed after test screenings. Still, very sweet, and so cool! OK, the dress is hideous...
Another candidate-Electric Dreams? I watched this the other day and it is such a cute story!
Majdy said on July 10, 2006 22:34:
The one that has Meg Ryan on it, so I’d say You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless In Seatle and French Kiss.
