No One Escapes Politics or Complainte Pour Ste. Catherine

which one is the name of the song?
WHo is Chaterine? The politician?

“Complainte Pour Ste. Catherine” is the original title of the song, it’s in French.

Some info about this track:

- The song was first released on the debut album by Kate & Anna McGarrigle in 1976.

- Ste. Catherine is the patron saint of single girls and also the name of Montreal’s main shopping street. It’s also the name of a Metro station.

- It would be a bit of a stretch to say Ste-Catherine is a song about Montréal politics. The bit about “la politique” is a joke, seeing as the only politics the narrator’s interested in is the battle against mosquitos (though admittedly this is a serious enough concern during the Canadian summer!). In my humble opinion, the song just says, I like to have a good time, don’t judge me.

This is a translation into English of the original French lyrics:

Me, I walk along Ste Catherine
Getting the warmth from the Métro
I don’t look through shop windows
When it’s thirty below zero
We’ve been in politics for a long time
Twenty years of war against mosquitos

I don’t feel intrepid
When it snows I don’t go skiing
I don’t have a motel in the Laurentians
Sunday night is hockey night*

We’ve been in politics for a long time
Twenty years of war against mosquitos

Don’t think that I’m an fool
Because I don’t drive a convertible
The glory is fairly useless
At the price of gas (petrol) it’s too distressing
We’ve been in politics for a long time
Twenty years of war against mosquitos

We’re all brothers ’cause we make
sure we always have a good time
Because we’re on the earth of men
And women and children

We’ve been in politics for a long time
Twenty years of war against mosquitos

Don’t believe that we’re not Christians
On Sundays we walk our dogs

i just noticed it...

neither on TDR article or on maryjane.se

there isn’t translation of title

JAG GER DEJ MIN MORGON

’I give you my tomorrow’.....i think?

I give you my morning (Orig. title “I give you the morning”)

And you forgot ’bout b-side of ’Sommaräng’ single - ’Små lätta moln’ - Small, little clouds :)

I’ve even started translation those lyrics into Polish :D

great bro. can’t wait to see it!

It’s a good album!

Yeah, Maciek :D:D:D btw nice nickname :p

Lol, I’ve made a mistake in translation - it is not ’small little clouds’ but ’small light clouds’ :) None noticed that :)

yea thx - Tom ;-) it’s the only place I used this ’nickname”. I think is quite original ;-)

Wow, the Swedish version of the Catherine song is NOTHING like the original! The Swedish version is a big feminist rant about women stuck at home cleaning and taking care of kids. It’s a bit dated since in 2006 that attitude is long gone.

You can find now all the lyrics in english translation on http://www.littlemarie.net

Enjoy the big work our swedish reporter Mikael does!!!!!!!! :D
