Wish I Could Fly the most played song on European

radio in 1999???

It this true? Thats what cdon.com reported back in 2001.

yep its true, and well deserved aswell.

Well, I’ve read it was the seventh most played song in Europe in 1999 and it spent 16 weeks at no. 1 in Continental Airplay Chart :) I don’t understand why it didn’t better in singles chart - UK #11, SWE #4, GER #26, AUSTRIA #11, SWI #12... It should’ve got in Top 5 in every European country

It sounds like it sustained a good position rather than topping and then flopping away the next week - makes it more of a success to me :)

I need to ask a question about WICF... Was it airplayed in the UK? Cuz I remember some people saying WICF got to #11 although it got no airplay there or that Roxette’s had no airplay in the UK since 1994... And on the other hand I’ve read Tod Terry made a WICF remix cuz the UK radios stations wanted “faster songs”. So I suppose that at least Tee’s mix was airplayed in the UK, wasn’t it?

wicf was played neally everyday on my local radio station when i was in collage, i dont know about national ones i never listern to them.

Roxette performed at Party In The Park that year - that is great promo and gets attention to a song !!! I dunno about the radio play tho.

Dispite what people has to say about HAND, WICF
is one of roxette’s biggest hits.

It’s like Cliff Richard. “Miss you Nights” did not even get to the top 100 but now that song is one his most requisted songs.

WICF is HUGE is South Africa, Our biggest TV Broadcasting company used throughtou it one of their comercials back then.

So yes I can believe what you are saying

Wish I Could Fly was given airplay in U.K and on entering at #11 they appeared on CD:U.K in march 1999...............and promptly fell to #19 the following week.it was the 7th most played song on european radio in 1999.

According to one Roxette web, WICF got to #11 in UK and than fell to #18, #29 and #58... I wonder how many WICF singles were sold in UK... Maybe 60 000...

im sure it was alot higher than 7th most played song in europe.

7th most played song ? Where does that come from?
Can someone confirm this subject, Tevensso maybe??

by the way am I the only one that likes You Dont Understand Me much more than Wish I Could Fly? :)

does Tevensso know more than any of use would ;-) contacts maybe ?
personally i adore the bass line and maries sexy vocals on wicf.

if you look at the booklet for the ballad hits you will see that it says that WICF was the 7th most played song on european radio in 1999......

where bouts u from pophits?

All I can see in the booklet is: “...eventually becoming a major hit in continental Europe and group’s first sizeable british hit in years.” WICF wasn’t a major hit in sales chart (#20 in Eurochart Hot 100) but in the airpay charts (#1 in Europe) and I think the airplay is more important...
And btw, WICF is better than YDUM. Nothing against YDUM, though, it’s a great song

well i assure you it was the 7th most played song on european radio in 1999.when i get home i will find the exact source and post it tomorrow.it may have been in the booklet for the U.S version of dont bore us but from what i remember it was ballad hits

ow i do love YDUM, i think it would have been interesting to mix more songwriters to see what per gets.

There’s no info about Wish I Could Fly position in European Radio Chart in the booklet of The Ballad Hits. By the way, it can be that Wish I Could Fly was #7.

Here’s a link where you can read that WICF was really the seventh most played song:
