why dont we start a thread/poll about what we want to have in the Roxbox it might not have been decided yet...

i am sure they have quite an idea of what they will put in it :)

5 quesses what the DVD will be... as for the 3 other CD’s ... i don’t know but i’ve got a feeling it’ll be some pretty good stuff!!

Just a pitty about the GH idea... it does sound a little uninspiring - but hey if Eurythmics could do it successfully, so can Roxette!!

Three CD’s:

GH vol I
GH the remixes
GH vol II

The DVD

All The videos ever made and more

:-D

//// ROXBOX ////

/// CD

>> THE GREATEST HITS // gh + two new songs
>> THE LIVE HITS // diff. songs live from ’88 to ’01
>> THE REMIX HITS // brand new mixes by top deejays (like e.g. mousse t., scissor sisters, ...)
>> THE UNPLUGGED HTIS // the whole mtv concert in high quality
>> THE DEMO HITS // unrealeased demos

/// DVD

>> ROOM SERVICE IN STOCKHOLM // live concert; backstage shots by asa
>> MTV UNPLUGGED // all songs incl. interviews and bonus footage

that’s it (c;

@mbatalla *looooolll* :)

MY PREFERRED ROXBOX;

2CD ’Look Sharp!’ remastered with bonus tracks
CD1 The original album + extra tracks (e.g. Silver Blue)
CD2 The demos of all the tracks from CD1

2CD ’Joyride’ remastered with bonus tracks
CD1 The original album + extra tracks (e.g. Come Back...)
CD2 The demos of all the tracks from CD1

2CD ’Crash Boom Bang’ remastered with bonus tracks
CD1 The original album + extra tracks (e.g. Crazy About You...)
CD2 The demos of all the tracks from CD1

all the later Rox-albums are in got enough quality I think.

DVD MTV Unplugged + as a bonus the whole concert also on CD

Nope I want something less structured for the Cd’s- some sort of messy box of archive material and unheard goodies!

Hmm, I don‘t think I would like remastered albums with “bonus”-tracks that were released on “Tourism”; but I got your point.
I hope it won‘t be all the demos on Roxbytes...

I’d make it like this (but I’m nearly sure it won’t be so...):

- “Out of the closet” (Unreleased demos of unreleased songs)
- “The Other Side of Roxette” (B-sides & Rarities, an improved and updated version of the Rarities CD)
- “Fans Favourites” (A Cd of newly recorded or at least remastered versions of the best non-single songs chosen by fans at the website they already should have running...)
- “20, Too young to die” (A new studio album, at least 10 songs, 10 is enough :D)
- “Once upon a time around the world” (Best live moments from all their tours).
- “The Rock Set” (Alternate versions of their greatest hits -a ballad version of Stars would be a fav for me in this one :DDD).

Plus DVDs:
- “Roxette in the Oven”: (How the latest album studio was made).
- “Live in Brussels 2001”. (Didn’t they record it all in video? Or did they just record the sound... And if they did, what for? To release a cut as a B-side on Breathe’s single?)
- “MTV Unplugged” (Just that)
- “All the videos that never made it”. Outtakes from the videos (would be fun) and interviews with the directors, especially the responsible for wasting “Crash Boom Bang”. Also, some other funnies that may be gathering dust around, like how exciting a promotion tour can be by showing how Per is always asked the same in every interview...

I’d pay up to € 90 for all this, I guess most fans would as well :P

@Santi: I want your box set!!!

I’m a little surprised that the long-awaited Rox Box isn’t actually just repackaged versions of the six studio albums (like GT’s and Marie’s box sets were). I think it would be cool to have that too (well, if the early ones were remastered) but if it’s one or the other I’ll take whatever this is going to be!

@Santi: That would be awesome!!! Of course we all know the chances of it being that good are slim :( I’m not getting my hopes up!

I’d settle for anything, I am not fussy....

but what I really would love to see, is a Roxette single boxset... like Abba did, all remastered all in little cardboard sleeves! :)

The Rox Box should include “Box tour ’06” ;)

Dreaming on, plus to other gems it would also be nice to get a few official Roxette karaoke songs! Like GT with their karaoke DVD.

If it’s gonna have rare items in it, I wanna see “Dance Passion”, “I Want You”, “Heartland” (even though it’s really GT as Roxette), “Favourites from Crash! Boom! Bang!”, “The Look ’95”, “The Look for Roxette EP”, or something with interviews on them.

As for the DVD...I’ll be happy to see “MTV Unplugged”, the Johannesburg concert (C!B!B! tour), rare footage, the complete video collection (fully updated), interviews, etc.

I want new stuff, not old stuff all put together that does nothing for me. I hope they include a FULL concert maybe from each tour, although that’s asking a bit much but that would be great!

All I wish is that the DVD is not just the 12 tracks from Unplugged that MTV aired. Cheers, Rich

What I dont want as far as the dvd goes, is MTV unplugged or any performance that is already out on bootleg dvd, as uncomplete as they are. Is a couple new MTV unplugged clips really going to impress everyone?

The idea is the same as another GH cd with one or 2 new songs that alot are complaing about.

imazombie... I would also like to see unreleased material that can’t be obtained via bootlegs or otherwise, which will hopefully be the case as part of the RoxBox.

But I would also like to have alot of their old releases (vids/unplugged etc) available as a high quality well produced release. Which is hopefully around the corner as well.

Ally, a single boxset would be great! i’ve always wanted to get some more of them, but could never get motivated to chase them up.

Something like Balladas en Espanol but sung in german or so!

If they have guts, they should finally also release Neverending Love on a GH

@Speedo.... it seems that even the RoxBox will have the hits on cd1 so I believe that Neverending Love and other minor singles may appear on that cd for the hardcore fans but I don’t think they’ll make it for the ordinary anniversary GH which is (hopefully) going to be released in the US where the public don’t know that song.

Personally, I think it’s ok to have another GH (especially for US) but I can’t see why we should have the hits in the rox box...

Christ i hope they keep the hits outa the RoxBox... enough already!

So far, this is what we know about the Rox Box:

1)-GH CD wich will include:
The Look
Dressed for Success
...and so on.
And the 2 new tracks.
Not a wise idea IMHO.

2)-A “Rarities” CD, that I´m sure will include:
Crazy About You
The Voice
One Is Such A Lonely Number
...and so on.
So basically, this sounds like an updated version of the Rarities CD. I think there´s nothing much left that can be considered “rare” because everything has been released as b-sides (especially tracks that never made it to the albums) or bootlegs (live/demo versions). The only really rare thing I can think of is the “How do you do!” demo wich I believe was called “How can I take a chance on you?”. Hmmmm...

3)-MTV Unplugged DVD: A show that was taped 13 years ago...

So, my personal opinion (and I repeat: PERSONAL OPINION, not the absolute truth, ok?) is that it will sell mmmm 100.000 copies worldwide. This is going to be quite an expensive release that wont be apealing for fans nor other people.

I will only buy it if the DVD has extras that are really worth the investment, or if ALL the tracks in the CD have not been released before (and no, I wouldn´t call “Vulnerable (single edit)” a rarity or an alternate take just because is 20 seconds shorter!)

And why just include a couple of “live” songs in the CD? Why not make a 3rd CD in the box with a live concert?

Well, that´s just my opinion. This is going to be a total flop...

...unless they hit big in the US again, wich of course, will never happen.

The box will have a third cd. Per said it consists of three cds and a dvd.

And another thing, I’m 100% sure there are plenty of demos that we haven’t even heard from. More than enough to fill a cd. Or two.

Wake up, people. Every box set by any artist ALWAYS includes the hits and main album tracks. I have a couple (ABBA, The Carpenters) and all the hits are there. I think it’s necessary. Otherwise it would be appealing for die-hard fans. It must be attractive to the general public too (some people like box sets, because they provide a very comprehensive view of any artist’s legacy).

I don’t like the idea of one cd with hits, another with demos and so on. I would prefer all the stuff in chronological order (more or less like the M. Jackson set).

“I would prefer all the stuff in chronological order”

I can’t imagine anything less exciting!

Ha ha ha, to follow up on Visa’s comment: there are actually songs we haven’t heard about, even though “we” as fans think we have insight in Per’s demo production. Trust me on this one.

all we can do is sit and wait!

I will treat myself with it after the whole uni and thesis writing stuff is over!

:-D

Please, let us hear The big L. demo. The sky was clear it was a beautiful day...

I hope that the box look like this:

CD1 Songs that we already heard but collected on one CD, like happy together, crazy about you and so on

CD2 Never released and never heard songs!

CD3 Demos and other stuff

DVD: a couple of concerts!

I still wish for a Room Service DVD, and re-mastered albums, esp Joyride!

*sobs hysterically* PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE don’t make me buy IMBHL again!!!!! Oh god, why? WHY?! Per can’t you do a backwards Roxette album (Per singing all the songs and Marie on a few, instead of the other way around). Then we can have a new album instead of more GH!!! I don’t even care if we get the rubbish bottom shelf demos like “Love Spins” (I actually love that song, is something wrong with me?)...just don’t make me buy IMHBL again!!! *chokes*

Bless your cotton socks, MD!

“Per singing all the songs and Marie on a few, instead of the other way around”

Ooooh, that would be Roxette’s best album ever :)

No that would almost be a Gessle solo album. And Marie as the main songwriter wouldn’t work. The main point of Roxette’s attraction is imho Marie at the mic singing Per’s clever songs!

Sascha: My point exactly! Oh, but Per should still write the songs.

-

I like the Joyride idea!!!
Specially:
// DVD

>> ROOM SERVICE IN STOCKHOLM // live concert; backstage shots by asa
Sounds too much cool for me!

Tevensso:
I trust in you as always!!

“And Marie as the main songwriter wouldn’t work.”

Who said anything about Marie as main song writer???? My god, we’d all be old grannies by the time Marie wrote us a whole album.

In the earlier Rox albums Marie sang just about every song...why not do that the other way around? Yeah it’d be more like a Gessle solo album, but WATG and Mazarin were pretty good, just have Marie on 5 songs instead of 1, that way Per gets to work with Roxette, we get a new Rox album, and Marie can stay a recluse!! Everybody happy!!!

I think that the box will look like this:

Every single & B-side +
MTV Unplugged DVD

I don´t know why I feel that I´m going to be disappointed.

But this would be nice:

New songs from the forthcoming greatest hits, unreleased demos(unheard songs) or different versions of album songs. Live songs. No remix...no!

MTV Unplugged+Sweden live+Live-ism DVD including rare footage. I just think these will fit into one DVD...

“MTV Unplugged+Sweden live+Live-ism DVD including rare footage. I just think these will fit into one DVD...”

That would be great, but they wouldn’t wanna try putting that much on one DVD, the quality would be crap!

Let’s just hope they get released at some stage.

i think the reason we dont see the other concerts showing up as possible dvd items is per doesnt own the rights to them...hence liek the reason why unplugged may still not happen.

Just hoping the demos are not the ones from bootlegs!

I’d like to see the missing songs from the Look Sharp Live concert! Do they still exist?

“That would be great, but they wouldn’t wanna try putting that much on one DVD, the quality would be crap!”
Which unfortunately makes it even more believable. Remember ’All Videos Ever Made & More’ and ’The Ballad & Pop Hits’ DVD releases? The quality on the early videos was just that...crap! So I expect no less on this release. VHS to DVD transfer.

thew quality of the older videos also had to deal with the masters which are old dont forget

coyboy, that is true, but i think it’s quite pathetic that my VHS copy of DBUGTTC-GVH is better quality than what we got on AVEM.

i just had an idea of what I want in the box....since it is rare and well a good copy is very rare, a nice remastered version of I want you..i forgot how sweet that song is

I have it on CD, where do you want it sent?

the “masters being old” theory doesn’t convince me... All the ABBA videos from the 70’s look crystal clear on their DVD release.

true zargo but abbas label saw that they were more thna justa phenomenon and set out to archive abbas work as did benny and bjorn, emi was just chasing the ball even they admit that.....but we all know that there’s stuff per held onto or even mrs dimberg......but I do think alot of their earlier material and rarities are lost of trashed quality simply from neglect by emi...my email is [email protected] it a rip from vynil cause the one I have is bad
oh and I agree with the quality, but I think you have to look at what they did to the source matierla to cram it all on to one dvd. If they were going to roxette justic they’d do a video anthology across 4 discs in high def wherever possible, but emi isn’t the company to do it at all

I would like “I Want You” in good quality as well, if anyone would be so kind as to share it. [email protected] Thanks in advance.

As for the quality, I suppose losing the original masters could explain the lack of quality in the earlier videos. However, do you think they really lost the original master tapes to the music? The videos I can understand. Many of the EMI released DVDs by other acts have new remastered audio re-synced over the videos. The least EMI could have done is upgrade the audio, not necessarily the video. Even latter videos like “Fading Like A Flower” or “Sleeping In My Car” could have been overdubbed with remastered audio. Instead, it was a simple VHS to DVD transfer.

Personally, I don’t think the original tapes are lost. I just think it was a cheap job done on EMI’s part. It wasn’t only the video/audio quality of the earlier videos, but do you remember the out-of-sync audio/video documentary on the ’Ballad & Pop Hits’ DVD? That goes to show that a cheap effort was made.

I’ll look for it.

http://www.evensson.com/temp/iwu.mp3

thnaks tev, you’re right rain, emi did a mega cheap shot with roxettes last dvd, but emi has always treated them like that , I think partly due to how their contract is...per even said that they don’t shell out much of their own profits to make videos or promote albums, its emis call....it explains alot

Are we talking just with Roxette, or EMI with all their artists??

I’m mainly referring to Roxette in this case. I own several “hits” DVD releases by EMI for many of their acts, including David Bowie (Best Of Bowie), Duran Duran (Greatest), Culture Club (Greatest Hits), Pet Shop Boys (PopArt), and Human League (Very Best Of). All of these DVD releases were produced by Abbey Road Interactive. Although the audio is only 2.0 on each release (no 5.1) it is very nicely remastered. The video quality is good as well. So why couldn’t the same have been done for Roxette?

Anyhow, tev, the link won’t work for me. :(

It would be nice to listen “alternative versions” (call it “remix”, if you prefer) of their greatest hits, with the addition of “Goodbye To You - ballad version”...

Sorry for my ignorance on Music DVDs... but isn’t 5.1 audio a bit extreme for music?

I mean, that would make the mix of the music extremely complicated, as far as I know.

Besides, in the case of the songs, you could ruin the original mix... and a bad mix can certainly make a nice song sound... wrong...

Roxette’s DVD, of course, was made on the cheap. I doubt that any master tapes for videos have been lost, and there’s no way in this world that any of the master tapes for Roxette’s original sound recordings would have been lost. Unless there’s a serious accident (such as a major fire or flood - but even then, master tapes are kept in ’tanked’ rooms which are fire and flood-proof), a huge selling group like Roxette won’t have missing master tapes.

I’m not sure how much it’d cost EMI to upgrade Roxette’s video collection, although with music channels often playing their biggest hits, I’m sure it’d be worth the cost.

Speaking of pop videos, Coyboy wrote:
“abbas label saw that they were more thna justa phenomenon and set out to archive abbas work as did benny and bjorn”

I don’t know where you got this idea from. ABBA’s label, Polar, spent very little money on their videos; certainly, no money was spent on “archiving” the films. As for Björn and Benny, their primary interest is in their current work, not ABBA. And even then, only Benny has an interest in the sound quality of the group’s releases. The visual side, including the videos, don’t seem to be of much interest to any member of ABBA.

The videos look great today simply because what’s included on the DVDs has been taken from the master tapes. They’ve been synched up with the latest remastered recordings for the best sound.

The soundtrack to ABBA - The Movie (first released on DVD last year) was found on a dusty shelf in Polar Music’s headquarters.

Look sharp demos... how exciting! I can hardly control my excitment!

@Santi: I agree. 5.1 sound only make sense to me in live recordings... that way you can have the audience “in the back”, for example.

But for studio material? You don’t win anything. If you want the sound comming from all your speakers... let your hometheatre do the upmix, and that’s it.

Old studio material in 5.1 sound will sound way over produced/remastered.

Even though I do not think that most of Roxette’s recordings really need a remastering (esp. Joyride and CBB are fine, I believe) it would be nice to have new editions of old studio recordings. To my mind, that would make far more sense than to release another Greatest Hits album. I have just bought some of the very nice re-releases of Depeche Mode’s old recordings. Not only do they contain the songs in a remastered quality but also a quite lengthy (20-30 min) film that deals with the production process of the recording and the band when they recorded the album. Also, the package of these special editions are very nice indeed.

No doubt they will release a remastered set of Roxette’s back catalogue at some stage. I just can’t help but think that people will still complain “we’ve already got these albums, we don’t need them again, i want a new album!”

It would be nice if they have something in the box that they won’t tell us about, as a little surprise for the fans.

I do want the re-mastered albums, esp Joyride!
