SOAP...Definitly, BIG FLOP

Hehehe, I´m sure this topic will receive big critics, but having in mind the progression of SOAP in Sweden (this album has not reached the success as Mazarin did), I´m please to say to you all that SOAP IS A NEW FLOP for Gessle´s career.
And I don´t think we should blame Gessle for this, ´cos SOAP is a great album. I suspect EMI SWEDEN AB is not interested anymore in spend money promoting Gessle related projects.
And for the rest of Europe it goes the same. I can imagine what here in my country, Spain, EMI will do if SOAP is going to be released: NOTHING.
So PLEASE, Gessle...start work with a FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL AND UNFORGETABLE ROXETTE COMEBACK...
World seem not to be interested in what Jo-Anna said anymore...:((((

It was kinda expected that Mazarin would outsell SOAP.
You can’t really compare them either since they’re sung in different languages + Mazarin sold even more copies due to a very successful tour.
It’d be more interesting to compare the sales of SOAP with another Per Gessle-project; The Lonely Boys (or maybe TWATG).

thank god it was a flop, and it still managed to sell 1xplatinum, stay 11 weeks in the album charts, stay 13 weeks with Jo-Anna in the single charts AND enter this week with the 2nd single.. try to find what other Swedish artists have done this in the last months and you’ll be amazed. You might want to check and get some more knowledge of the Swedish music market / lists/ business before making such statements ;)
Nobody, not even Per, expected to sell more than Mazarin with SOAP, I doubt he expected to sell more than gold actually :P
Or to say it another way, many artists would like to be able to say their album was such a flop :D

I guess you just make this statement to get reactions.
Don’t expect me to take you serious.

I can’t believe that you thought it would sell as good as Mazarin. Very few albums does and this is a very special album. Mazarin contains solid hit-material only while SOAP is a very personal and discreet album. Projects by Gessle that isn’t written in swedish doesn’t get that much attention here in Sweden. Sad but true.
One really good thing about SOAP is that people who isn’t a Gessle-fan finds this album interesting.

I wish all of Per and Marie’s albums would flop like this... only #3 best selling album for the year 2005? Embarrassing!

“1xplatinum, stay 11 weeks in the album charts, stay 13 weeks with Jo-Anna in the single charts...”
Having success just in Sweden is not a big achievement. Swedish market is very small, not enough to say that a record is big. So, don’t take it as a real indicator.
Let’s wait the European release to say it’s a flop or not. In my opinion, general public won’t be attracted for this album. Only Roxette fans are going to buy this. I don’t expect this album reaching the #1 in the sales charts outside Scandinavia.

Oooh Per needs to commision JonasA for some brilliant promo video’s for the international market - would be so cool to see what he comes up with!!

Room Service: The album was made (primarily) for the Swedish market.
Jud (moderator) said on February 11, 2006 09:45:
room_service: so you are saying that Mazarin was not such a big success because it was only released in Sweden? Doesn’t make much sense does it? If the album is released in Sweden, then it has to be compared within the Swedish market, not the European or Japanese or Australian. WITHIN Sweden SOAP sold more than many other Swedish/international artists that released albums at around the same time, and this is what counts right now, you want to understand it or not.
I doubt the album will sell well in Europe, but so didn’t TWATG or The Change or even the latest 2 Rox albums compared to previous releases, nobody expects the album to sell huge amounts, specially when many of his European fans have bought it already ;)

i agree with Judith - there are many UK artists that are at the top of the UK charts that sell less than what Per does. SOAP is not a flop. Get real.
Sparvogamarie said on February 12, 2006 04:29:
Judith is right, if an album is big in one country that still counts for something, especially if the album is only released for that country as in the case of Mazarin where you wouldn’t expect it to sell much outside of Sweden. Though I think I see what Room Service is saying, if an album is released worldwide and only sells well in Sweden, you would probably call that album a flop. Still, here in Australia we have plenty of artists who are huge here and unheard of everywhere else. Or look at David Hasselhoff, his singing career is HUGE in Germany, but zero in the rest of the world!
I think as Rox fans we need to get over charts...because let’s face it, if you live outside of Sweden it’s: “Roxette who? Isn’t that the blonde girl who sang It Must Have Been Love?”

What a message! It´s unbelievable to reading this, from a fan...?! - It was important for Per and we should respect this and THANX to Per, that we can listen SOAP and the wonderfull songs as “JoAnna says” or “Substitute”...

Urm give time that this record actually reach Europe before you make these judements... and it has done well enough in Sweden to have an international release!!
