Can’t wait for them to start. I love watching these big sports events.
Go Australia!!
kriszta said on February 11, 2006 12:27:
We hungarians are very good in summer games, but in winter......We won’t win any medals, but I love winter sports!Especially skii-jumping and ice-hockey.)
Mari said on February 11, 2006 12:55:
Today Finland gets first medal! I hope Hannu Manninen wins gold for Nordic combined. And tomorrow Antti Autti wins half pipe gold :)
tcooh said on February 11, 2006 14:54:
Norway one silver, and two bronze so far, possibly 3 bronze if they decided that photo-finish was equal, hope so. The more medals, the better ;)
Mari said on February 11, 2006 15:10:
tcooh, yeah congrats to you. But team Norway didn’t get place to olympic ice-hockey tournament. And hockey gold is the most important gold :)
Hannu Manninen is by the way the biggest loser in the world. Shame on you Hannu!
tcooh said on February 11, 2006 18:13:
Ice hockey is cheating, remember it still only counts as one gold, even though several gets medals ;) Dummer that the two norwegians didn’t split the bronze as the one just just about a longer toe than the other, for which he has been bullied from his teammates for a while. Now he got his revenge; a bronze medal, hehe LOL
Don’t be so hard on Hannu, he’s a big guy. And in the altitudes of Torino area, and thin air, light short guys/girls have a huge advantage cause they need less air to progress their body in motion at the same speed. At least he’s one of the finnish atletics that are clean.
Jud (moderator) said on February 11, 2006 19:23:
Let’s see what Herminator does this time. At least he’ll wear his yellow RZB (bank where I work!!) helmet - I have a cup with the same logo AND my name on it :P
tcooh said on February 11, 2006 20:10:
Isn’t Herminator most famous for his spectacular fall in previous Olympics, just to win the next day? He’s unhumanly good normally..
Jud (moderator) said on February 11, 2006 20:15:
yes, he is.
Also for the accident (he was riding his motorbike and a German with a huge car hit him) he had some years ago, first they feared for his life, then if they’d had to amputate his leg, but he went through lots of surgery and rehab and training and see where he is now :)
The guy is admired here in Austria.
Mari said on February 11, 2006 20:38:
Hannu Manninen is soo typical Finnish sportsmen, grr. He wins all season long, almost every world cup competitions etc. And now, when it’s the most important competition of the year, he totally flops. I’m sure that same thing happens to our ski jumpers :/
harriej said on February 11, 2006 21:43:
The first dutch medal is there: silver on the 5000 m skating for Sven Kramer.
Carl Verheijen was 4th and Bob de Jong 6th.
tcooh said on February 11, 2006 22:39:
@Mari: this might sound a bit up tight, but I hope that same happens to your skijumpers :P We all know who’s gonna win that still, hehe. Maybe you should migrate to Norway, here’s were the winners live ;)
Mari said on February 12, 2006 13:20:
Hmm, I don’t hope bad luck for anybody (execpt Finnish cross skiiers. cos you can’t win on cross-ski without doping and cross-ski is the most stupid sport on Earth). I just wanna see fair sport, it doesen’t matter that much who wins.
Btw, a country without any F1-champs or even F1 drivers, isn’t a country of winners :P
Santi said on February 13, 2006 13:59:
Will Sweden lose by less than 10 goals against Canada in ice hockey (w)? :D
Strest said on February 13, 2006 14:05:
They’ll probably lose by less than ten goals. Last time (at least I think it was last time) they lost 2-0.
But it doesn’t really matter since they’ll both have 4 points (after today’s game against the Italians).
Quite frankly the women’s ice hockey is so boring since it’s really predictable.
Finals: Canada vs USA
Bronze match: Sweden vs Finland
Russia is perhaps the 5th best country and they lose 12-0 against Canada.
No wonder they don’t get much publicity.
Strest said on February 13, 2006 14:53:
Sweden vs Italy, 3-0 after the first period.
Italy was playing 5 vs 3 for about a minute and didn’t have one shot at goal.
4-0 after less than one minute of the second period...
5-0...
6-0, 7-0, 8-0
This is just not right.
Santi said on February 13, 2006 21:05:
Yes, well, like in the beginnings of men’s ice hockey, it used to be rather predictable as well. I guess it just needs some time to spread a bit more.
Anyway, I think that the final might be exciting because both USA and Canada are very good teams. I’d bet my money on Canada though.
At least Sweden won Canada in curling! :D
Btw, did Foppa already leave the USA or is he still stuck at the snowstorm? In any case I guess he won’t play Kazakhstan... he shouldn’t, doesn’t sound like the most dangerous rival they’ll face.
About Italy against Sweden today... I think the italians are just not on that level. They only play because the Olympics are in Italy and they have to. We saw in the last summer olympics also something similar with even Greek national teams with no people born in Greece (I think it was field hockey). So don’t expect much from them.
Strest said on February 13, 2006 22:45:
Yeah, it needs to spread some more.
Also I’m not a big fan on the soft rules.
They’re not made of glass...
The question is, should it really be an Olympic event when there’s pretty much just 4 countries who can play the game?
Edit: Foppy won’t play the first two games.
Strest said on February 14, 2006 12:19:
Woo hooo
Two Swedish gold medals :)
(First gold medal(s) since 1994 in Lillehammer)
tcooh said on February 14, 2006 13:25:
Someone will be headhunted in Norway today... that girl who had the second last leg for Norway today, she’s not too popular here now... Marit Bjørgen would have saved it for Norway if she wasn’t left to start so far behind the other 3..
But hats off for Brink and his finish line sprint, the man jumped on his cross country skies.. the rest looked like sticks standing still.. That was deserved Sweden.
Strest said on February 14, 2006 15:27:
2-0 for Canada after the first period. Not that the match matter what-so-ever.
In fact, I believe a tie is better than a victory (well ok, it would be the first time Sweden beats Canada in women’s ice hockey).
IF Sweden would beat Canada (not that they have a chance to actually do it), I’d bet a huge pile of money on a Finnish victory later tonight.
But if Sweden finish second in the group there’s a small, small chance Finland beats USA and then it’ll be Finland vs Sweden and Canada vs USA in the semi finals.
Santi said on February 14, 2006 16:59:
“Just” 8-1 :D
At least someone scored against the Canadians!! I don’t think that outscoring the others like the Canadians do is especially good for the sport. Hope the Americans beat them in the final or (hopefully) in the semifinal :P
They don’t broadcast the game between Finland and USA until tonight here in spain, so I’ll wait and see :p
Btw, did they just say Bode Miller is out in the slalom?? :O Why?? :|
Strest said on February 14, 2006 18:09:
I don’t know what you mean by tonight, but the game doesn’t start until 8.30 PM (or something like that).
Strest said on February 14, 2006 21:08:
Come on Finland!!!
It’s gonna be one hell of a third period, that’s for sure!
4 goals in a row for USA and it’s 5-3 :/
What were SVT thinking when they decided to show mens figure skating qualifier instead of the third period of USA vs Finland? Unbelievable...
Santi said on February 14, 2006 22:55:
Well, they finally lost, so we’ll get ready for our USA - Sweden semifinal! :D
Oh well, and I hope Finland beats Canada, of course, but it’s very unlikely...
With “tonight” I meant very late, as late as 00.30 in Teledeporte. They were showing some figure skating and an “exciting” UK - Switzerland in curling until now...
Mari said on February 15, 2006 21:27:
I’m pretty sure it’s Finland against Sweden on bronzegame, again.
And men’s side, Finland won Swizerland 5-0 :)
Mari said on February 15, 2006 21:29:
Still no gold to Finland. Today only silver :(
Yes, Slovakia just beats Russia. 5-3 to Slovakia. It’s always nice when small countries wins.
Santi said on February 15, 2006 23:14:
So what about the tie of Latvia and USA?? :D Now, that was amazing, that Latvian goalkeeper deserves a better team than the Austrian league :P
And Sweden did it just great. But let’s see when the really difficult teams are in front :P
I want a Finland - Sweden final, for the gold, that’d be nice *dreaming...* :)
Santi said on February 16, 2006 14:41:
The Czech Republic lost against Switzerland in Ice Hockey!!!!! :|
LittleSpooky said on February 16, 2006 15:09:
Hey... just for those of us who have jobs and aren’t glued to the tube for the duration of the Olympics (JUST MESSING WITH YOU SANTI!!! ;o) )
Post what sport you’re talking about.
Example: It’s 10 - 7 Spain over Germany in Men’s Hockey or something like that.
I have no idea who’s doing what to who in whose backyard for how many cookies this Saturday.
kriszta said on February 16, 2006 18:02:
Tonight the men figure skating final with Evgeni Plushenko:)
And also the hungarian Zoltan Toth!!!
Mari said on February 16, 2006 18:40:
Figure skating...I’m not gonna watch it :) Instead I’m gonna watch ice-hockey :)

Bugger me we won something!!!!!!!!
Sliding down a hill on a tea tray......looks like fun!
Vixzter said on February 17, 2006 07:38:
i’m confused as to how they stop those tea trays! ;-)
that must be bloody uncomfortable riding down there on ure front O_o
LittleSpooky said on February 17, 2006 17:21:
Same way they do with the luge (where you’re goin down feets first). At the bottom, the run’s no longer solid ice, but a bit of snow and roughed up to help stop. And once you get to the finish line, you bring your legs / feet down and drag your toes and probably put your hands down as well.
That’s why the ice is roughed up and there’s snow on the track after the finish line.
Strest said on February 17, 2006 18:45:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
SWEDEN! SWEDEN! SWEDEN! :)
Kim Martin for President :)
crazypackersfan said on February 17, 2006 18:49:
Sweden wins!
Oops... I’m from the U.S., so I guess I’m supposed to be cheering for the U.S. team...
Anarem said on February 18, 2006 03:18:
Thank goodness Sweden won, I’m sick of always seeing Canada vs. USA for the gold medal in women’s ice hockey.
As for the Canadians running up the score... well, the girls came to Torino to win. Asking Hayley Wickenheiser not to score so many goals would be like asking Kim Martin to let a few goals in just because she’s supposed to feel sorry for the other team. :-) That said, it *is* disheartening to see such lopsided hockey, because it’s not really fun to watch.
Today is a historical day for women’s hockey. This victory for Sweden will inspire little girls all over the world, to lace up their skates, play some hockey, and one day, represent their country proudly. Hockey will only be richer for it, and we will hopefully be seeing better players, better teams, and less of these lopsided victories.
Good luck to both teams, but I’m rooting for my compatriots! :-)
Mari said on February 18, 2006 06:30:
Really nice that Sweden won! A big surprise! Well, Sweden has no chance against Canada, but silver is nice.
Finland doesen’t beat USA on bronzegame :/
And men’s side...Today Finland against Czech Republic...Finland wins! But tomorrow Canada beats Finland 4-0.
Anarem said on February 20, 2006 01:01:
Mari: I think that Sweden might have a chance, because all you need is a hot goalie, and Kim Martin is pretty hot...
Mari said on February 20, 2006 05:16:
What?? Finland won also Canada! 2-0! Amazing...I soo hope Finland beats USA on Wednesday.
Anarem said on February 20, 2006 12:20:
Ugh. It was painful to watch. Canada has a team stacked with NHLers, and we’ve been shut out twice, first by the Swiss and then by the Finns. We better get our crap together, and soon!
I do have to admit however, that it was nice to see Teemu Selanne and Teppo Numminen working together again. Go Jets, go!
(edited for spelling. Numminen is a tricky name to spell!)
GT_85 said on February 20, 2006 16:44:
Haha, They´ve played Leva Livet and Det är över nu during the women´s game between USA and Finland. Before the face offs. :-) That´s pretty cool, I think. They have probably mixed up Sweden and Finland.
Anarem said on February 21, 2006 03:27:
During the Canada/Sweden match, they played Dancing Queen. It was sooooo sweeet!
Mari said on February 21, 2006 21:09:
Sweden against Slovakia is really stupid game :( Sweden wants to lose the game. Loosing the game means that Sweden meets Swizerland on quorterfinals.
Anarem said on February 22, 2006 13:46:
@Mari: Here in Winnipeg, even though the Jets have been long gone, Teemu and Teppo are still hockey gods. :-) I miss them!
Mari said on February 22, 2006 19:11:
Yes, yes, yes!!!! Finland won!!!!!!! 4-3 against the big USA! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah! What a thrilling game, omg!
kriszta said on February 23, 2006 08:43:
Sweden-Russia and Finland-Czech republic in semifinal!
I’m sorry for Canada....
But now, Heja Swerige and Suomi!!!:)
Vixzter said on February 23, 2006 09:42:
is that the mens ice hockey? can someone tell me what the score was in the womens, i saw it on tv and canada were 4-0 up but as usual cos britain only wins by sliding on tea trays or by sliding little stones they switched to the curling (when canada beat denmark so our lot couldnt go thru anyway haha)
Mari said on February 23, 2006 09:54:
kriszta, it’s Finland-Russia and Sweden-Czech...Russia is bad, really bad.
Vixzter said on February 23, 2006 10:21:
oki doki, thanx for that i figured the canadians had won but UK winter olympic tv is rubbish and they skip the ice hockey a fair bit
Mari said on February 24, 2006 22:43:
Wooohoooooo! Amazing!!! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!
This is the first Olympic final for Finland and it’s againt Sweden!! Dream final! It’s gonna be so huuuge game.
Anarem said on February 26, 2006 07:52:
As much as I love Sweden, I am rooting for Finland this time around, because my favourite player in the world is still Teemu Selanne, and I don’t think Finland has ever won a gold medal...
Mari said on February 26, 2006 11:05:
Anarem, nice :)
Uuh, I have a bad feeling about this game. Finland has amzingly good team, but Finland is Finland. We always lose big games :/
Strest said on February 26, 2006 12:51:
Go Sweden!
Ah, just remember the good times...
1-5 to 6-5.
2-4 to 4-4 in the last minute of the third period. Twice.
Goooooooo Sweden!!
kriszta said on February 26, 2006 18:11:
I didn’t think that, than they got 5 goals from Russia....
HEJA SVERIGE!
ThePopHits said on February 26, 2006 19:59:
