roxette-mania: why do we like roxette so much?
tavo said on January 12, 2006 14:39:
have you ever stopped to think what it is that makes us rox fans? i mean we have done crazy things for roxette like buying the same album several times just because it has some slight differences in the cover/sleeve. but why? would you do that for another artist? for example, i can play “the look” in all its different versions i have and yet i don´t get tired, what´s more, sometimes i want to listen to it once more. but i could never do that with any other artists´songs. what do you think?

yeah ;-) we’re the chosen ones
Maybe we are chosen to realize, that Roxette is just fantastic, the best band in the universe. Per & Marie are wonderful persons and great artists.

Good question! But I don’t have an answer... I just don’t know and to be honest I don’t want to know I like to be a fan of Roxette with no reason...
I love them since a grew up with them!!! Maybe that’s the answer: they have been with me since I was 13 and I’m 29 now.

Thats about the same for me - I loved them since I was 13 and I’m nearly 29 so it feels like they have been with me forever
Majdy said on January 12, 2006 22:03:
for me now liking them is not about music anymore, because eventhough I don’t like H.A.N.D album, but I BOUGHT it and I’m still here and always exiting to hear the news bout them.
So, I think now they’re not just a fav band for me, but also my friends :)
Santi said on January 12, 2006 23:05:
Cuz they compose nice songs and played cool guitars. It’s never been the same for me since Per hang his Rickenbackers for the photos.
Anyway, it’s all about the music.
And if I have to be true and sincere here, if I still think of them often is not for the music anymore. They’re not hot on the charts and they’re just long dead as a band out of Sweden.
My point is that is all this man’s fault: http://www2.dailyroxette.com/user.php/1 . If it weren’t for The Daily Roxette I would have forgotten them already. It’s this great online community that makes them alive in my mind.
Thank you all folks, I appreciate any of you TDRers...!!!
PS. Probably most of you can also blame the internet for it... am I right?

I agree with all specially with debora and madjy.
Perhaps it´s because i discover music with them, and they opened my world and mind when i was 11 and in some way i blossom.
It started with music, but as one get more involved, it goes beyond, one strarts to kinda like everything related to them.
Why not to love Gessle if he is so warm with fans and answers our questins and gives us presents in his birthday?? And a music genius?
Why not to love Fredriksson, the goddess, if she is an unbelieveble strong attitude woman and rol model (for me)??
And yes it´s true, without this powerfull tool of communication we couldn´t develope our taste and likes and fellings about them. Thanks guys ;-)
In other words, i don´t know why...but I like it like that.
EmEx said on January 13, 2006 03:16:
maybe its because their music has so much depth that you can listen to it over and over without getting bored. For example i just recently noticed how great a song “Dangerous” is ive never noticed this before even thou ive listend to it hundreds of times.

I have asked myself that question many times. And the answer is: I don’t have a reason to stop liking Roxette.
But after 15 years, I realized I’ll never stop. No matter what, I’ll always be here. In these 15 years, many things happened to me and they’re still there for me. So everytime I see Roxette, I don’t see Per and Marie and I don’t see a music group. I see the 15 years of my life that I have been liking them. That is what Roxette represents for me. No possible reason can make me throw away 15 years!

If I still think of them often is for the music .
You can watch only rubbish on MTV.
They’re not hot on the charts ,but they’re dead as a live band only in Sweden.
;-))))))
Roxette forever!!!!

I also think in the beginnign it was just because I liked their music SO MUCH and after a while they became part of the life somehow. Now they have nearly been here always. I mean I am more than half a lifetime a Fan of them. And after meeting them you learn also to like them personally and not just the music. And they gave you friends, Sweden, journeys to places you would have never been to... All that things make them spacial. And if someone is special you love most of the things he/she is doing, you don’t get tired of them, because they mean something to you.
And it is a question of taste. They do what we really like. Of how many other persons can we say that? ;-)
I like being a fan, although I am not that active as several years ago. i got new priorities and just look around in the net. But that is OK to me. My heart is still beating for them - and always will. I am sure. :-)

Well, I grew up on Roxette back in the 80’s and I’m 36 and still like Roxette. To me, I LOVE their music...I sometimes think about what the meanings are behind their songs.some put me in a happy mood while some make me sad :-(. Either way I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Roxette no matter what anyone says! If I’m in a bad mood ,I take a drive and put on my ROX CDS!! They will ALWAYS put a smile on my face! :-) Barb

that´s a question I´ve asked myself for a time and yesterday it struck me, their music is brilliant, I was listening to a radio show who played the listeners wishes, and I noticed that most of ´em liked great pop music, such as the Beatles (and some rap such as 50 cent), so I sent in a request to play “fireworks”, and informed them that it was Roxettes 20th year as a band and they played it, of course.
That´s when I realised that Rox-music is the best pop music Sweden can offer, and it should get more airplays.
Harplinge96 said on January 16, 2006 10:20:
Yep, the meaning behind the songs make them also special. As Marie sung “You bringing me down to my knees” or “Anyone” it just fit to the situation I was in those days and that make them special in eternity!
LittleSpooky said on January 18, 2006 06:12:
I’ve asked myself this question a few times. I grew up listening to music that spanned generations:
My grandfather taught me to love Count Basie, Glen (Glenn?) Miller, and those of that era.
My mom brought in my love of some of the 50’s and 60’s. My step-dad’s intensified it even more because of his knowledge of the music of that time.
I was born in 74, so I grew up with the music of the late 70’s and the 80’s. To date, I listen to a LOT of different music, depending on my mood. Some songs have special meaning to me:
Deep Blue Something: “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”. Granted, it’s about the movie of the same name, but when I was dating a guy... there was a place in Salt Lake we used to go to for breakfast called “Shoney’s” (no longer in Salt Lake, dunno about the rest of the state) and we’d “alter” the lyrics to say: “And I said ’What about Breakfast at Shoney’s’?” etc.
Others are just songs that have stuck with me through time because of a catchy beat / lyrics.
Then there’s Roxette. A duo that has seen me through the readjustment period in my life when I returned “home” after living with my father for 4 years. They were there during my high school years while I was growing and shaping up along the lines of the person I am today. They were there when my grandmother died in 95 from cancer. They were there through other minor / major losses in my life.
No other band has that distinction. What is it about Roxette’s music that makes it so ’special’? Well, to me, just about every song out there has left an echo in my life: “It Must Have Been Love (But It’s Over Now)” when I split from my ex. Granted, that song came out LONG before we split in early 01, but it was one that got major play time from me. “Lies” is another one.
The vocal qualities of both Per AND Marie do much to soothe me when I’m upset. Marie’s voice is powerful, full of emotion, and very intense. Per has a tender quality to his voice, sometimes playful, sometimes, mischevous. Marie can bring you up from the depths of darkness one song, and the next, make you want to hold someone tight. Per can make you laugh one moment, and make you think the next.
Over-all, their music is just timeless. It’s music I will continue to listen to, no matter what. It may not be my #1 CD / Song of the moment, but if you were to peek at the various music play lists I have... you’ll find more than one Roxette song listed.
argentinean-que... said on January 28, 2006 21:51:
Well, that’s absolutely a good question! Nevertheless I have heard that question ever since I’m a roxette fan. I’m from Argentina, I live here and I’m 22. I was 7 years old when I heard for the first time roxette. There was a time when Roxette was really popular here but now... I don’t think so. Everytime I say I’m a big roxette fan, I get the question why????? Like many of you, I grew up listening to their songs, altough I didn’t know what the lyrics say... I couldn’t understand a word!!! so, in my case, it was because of the music. Then, when I was a teenager and I could understand what they say and sing the songs properly (not inventig new english words! LOL)... I could identify myself with every song of them!!!!
Doraiblue said on January 28, 2006 23:29:
They are the best pop band all over the world.
When I was a child I was in a collegues´house.
I listened a Roxette song in the radio and from this moment I can´t stop to hear them. I don´t Know but I think that They are special
JPRox said on January 29, 2006 03:31:
Roxette don’t bore us!, they have an eclectic style. I love their beautiful ballads, but I love the powerful pop-rock songs. All the Roxette’s albums that I have are special, all are excellent for me. I think that many of their non-released singles could be internatinal hits!

I have asked myself that question many times. And I have yet to get an answer. I guess it is just one of those things nobody can explain. We are the “chosen ones” to like Roxette. Some other people got the curse of liking Britney Spears... LOL!
