Roxette Australian Chart Positions

For those Australian Roxette fans out there, I have compiled some Roxette chart stats for you.
The Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) have published their “End of Year” Charts for each year since 1988 ranking the highest selling singles for the year from #1 to #50.
Considering the amount of new songs released each week in a year, it’s an honour to make the top 50 and our little Roxette do have a good strike rate.
All the stats are below. Bear in mind Roxette had three #1’s here in Australia including The Look, It Must Have Been Love and Joyride.
Enjoy.
1989 - TOP 50 SINGLES
#2 - Roxette: The Look
#20 - Roxette: Dressed For Success
**FYI - Madonna’s Like A Prayer was number #1
1989 - TOP 50 ALBUMS
#17 - Roxette: Look Sharp
—-
1990 - TOP 50 SINGLES

I think SIMC hit top 20 in Australia, RTY top 50....
And about HAND - WICF was something around #57-#62.
But I may be wrong of course!

Yeah I remember SIMC was pretty popular here - though I don’t remember WICF ever being heard lol!

Well according to this site:
http://www.onmc.iinet.net.au/arch/94_04_06.htm
SIMC had a peak of 19 the week of May 15, 1994. Interesting, I thought it was much higher than that.

The same site had Run To You at 40 the week of Feb 5, 1995, then it dropped out!
After that, there was nothing :-(
Unfortunately, Australian music charts have been heavily influenced by the Amercian R&B and rap scene for quite some time now and good music has long since disappeared from the radar.

Definitely - it’s soo frustrating to know that the likes of Roxette would probably never get airplay here again

i wouldnt have though american music influenced music there at all. they try in UK but doesnt seem to take well enough lol. YAY/

Rox-kuryliw:
Australia has always been a combination of competing influences in the charts: the UK/Europe and the US.
Unfortunately the US-style music has been winning out ever since the early 90’s I feel. Stock Aitken and Waterman hits were huge in the late 80’s, and Roxette and the house movement (Black Box et al) were big in the early 90’s and they were mainly UK/European influences.
It’s been all downhill from there mate!

Lol - yeah our charts suck a bit now - you only hear a decent song once in awhile - though I’m not a teenager anymore I guess.........

I have to dig it up somewhere but WICF charted in the high 50’s [48 or 49] in the combines Sanity ARIA charts.
Also DBUGTTC was #3 in the SA charts for quite a while.
