Son of a B... plumber

Hey,
Just listen to Mr. Gessles new album.
I was at the Mazarin tour.
So now i thought i would pick up maybe the best album of the year. But...
Oh man, i was so surprised. This is maybe the worst i have ever heard by Gessle. The boy is trying to be a little “indie”, and yeah he succeed with the song titles, but the songs...
Nah this is the worst i haver ever heard by Gessle. An english solo album like this after The world according to Gessle is just too much. Hey i have almost lost all respect to the “man” Gessle after a album like this.
I thought there was a little hope after Mazarin, but the whole GT thing last summer really sucked, and now this...
Oh i really hope there wont be any Roxette after this. Why ruin everything you have done before? Why lose all the respect with bad songs?
Mr. Per Gessle is history, atleast in my world.
Thank you.
Mari said on December 14, 2005 05:18:
This album has nothing to do with indie and Per definetly not trying to be indie.
Jackeill said on December 14, 2005 09:34:
my first impressions were similiar. but it’s a grower. it’s noth what we expected, but that’s why the album is so great.
i absolutely love it.
and it has nothing to do with indie music. it’s not made like indie, it doesnt sound like indie - it’s not indie at all. do you know the indie-name definition?
a kind of mix of power pop and ballads, in retro style. tell me which indie bands sounds like soap. because soap sounds like 60s and 70s... :)

So sad to hear your opinion. I don’t agree of course. But I knew this would happen.
rox-kuryliw said on December 14, 2005 10:24:
Yoshiki i agree. Maybe my mind will change with a couple more listerns , if not putting it on ebay LOL. ***runs to get TWATG to put on cd player lol***
andi11 said on December 14, 2005 11:01:
@Yoshiki: I absolutely don’t agree with you! (Well, I don’t have to agree or disagree, I’ve just got a very different opinion...)
Even my sister and my mum love the SOAP-album. They also liked Per and Roxette before and didn’t know “Mazarin”. So for them the difference is even bigger, but still they think it’s a great record!!
But as it’s been mentioned several times: taste differs!!!
thenicekai said on December 14, 2005 11:40:
@Yoshiki: This is why you registered here? Just to complain about an album? Without even saying, what you don’t like about it? Strange.
Anyway, the “man” hasn’t lost respect at all. I’d rather say he won more reputation by releasing an album which is definitely not mainstream and even making EMI release it. This deserves respect!
You are not forced to like it. But if you say, you don’t like GT-stuff, maybe you should consider only watching Roxette music in the future. Master G has many personalities musicwise. Some like them all, some can only deal with one or two of them. It is up to your choice. All the best, Kai
Roxreporter said on December 14, 2005 11:44:
I love SOAP, and it has nothing to do with trying to be “Indie”. This is one of the best things I have ever heard in 20 years Rox/per/Marie. After all the hits and commercial stuff, I dindn’t know Per was able to write an album like this. Go Per :)
rox-kuryliw said on December 14, 2005 11:49:
LOl ow come off it people, not everything he does is gold people (be real) ! Its just an opinion, for me ,its to different and a mess of an album, not my cuppa at all. but i loved TWATG. I just Dont like Soap, far to over rated. I just rate albums differently to others i guess. different doesnt always mean good ? to many differents in my eyes becomes a mess lol.
BadMoon said on December 14, 2005 12:23:
This is the best Per’s album, but it sounds mature, deep and particular...and not all the people can love it.
Still think is a MASTERPIECE! and it’s more better than TWATG....imho..
rox-kuryliw said on December 14, 2005 13:01:
MASTERPIECE (isnt that abit strong , i wouldnt call any album i have that !), ok if thats what you think, good for you.
Wicf said on December 14, 2005 13:15:
@Yoshiki: “I really hope there wont be any Roxette after this”??? You must be joking! Per’s solo projects and Roxette’s music are different, aren’t they???
qrox said on December 14, 2005 14:25:
One of Per’s best albums.
I love it, it’s totally different from the other albums. This is like a new Gessle, and I love it.
ally77 said on December 14, 2005 14:37:
Well we sure love people’s opinions here at TDR... and I am sure Mr Gessle is working really hard thinking on yours...
SOAP 2 .... please come on down!
Krischan said on December 14, 2005 16:01:
@Kai: That’s what struck me funny, too. He’s gone through great lengths just to complain. But let him have his opinion. De gustibus non est disputandum.
Room_service said on December 14, 2005 18:33:
I save some songs that I like, but this album is not a favourite. I still have Scener and TWATG on the top, and they will stay there. I wouldn’t call SOAP a masterpiece, it’s just an attemp to do something different. But sadly, I think some songs are just fillers and don’t add anything to the album. I also think it sounds dated, I don’t like 60’s influences in music.
Roxreporter said on December 14, 2005 19:14:
Well, I’m very proud of our Roxettestar for making this album.
Per and Marie had lost me the last few years afther the last new Roxsongs. “The Change” was ok as an album but I dindn’t like it that much. But SOAP is just the greatest thing Per has done for me. Well, I don’t know anything of the swedish stuf of course.
I hope there will be a little international SOAP tour cause I want to hear this stuff live.
klair said on December 14, 2005 21:10:
@Yoshiki - ’I thought there was a little hope after Mazarin, but the whole GT thing last summer really sucked...’
This kind of thing makes me really mad.....just because you don’t like something doesn’t make it rubbish. If you don’t like things, then that is fine, and saying that you don’t is also fine, I have no problem with that.
I remember standing with 492,251 people who didn’t think that last summer sucked.....and it certainly created many memories that I will never forget....
If you want to stay on this board and keep all your limbs you are going about it in the wrong way. If PG sucks, then how come he makes so much money???
Oscarbcn said on December 14, 2005 22:00:
Yoshiki: Well for your opinion. This must be a free forum in which everybody can express what she/he thinks, without losing respect to the rest.
Mine is a little bit different, though: I LOVE THIS ALBUM. I really think Gessle has explored new sounds and melodies and still we can recognise him (the instrumentals are superb, they seem taken from a Tarantino film)
Good night!!!
klair said on December 14, 2005 22:13:
Well, Yoshiki would have my respect if he/she said that they didn’t like the album. But saying that it sucks (along with saying that everything else sucks) is just an insult to everyone on here and an insult to PG.
LoneGunman said on December 15, 2005 01:54:
Have to say it´s not Per´s best work as a POP singer... it´s million years behind Mazarin and TWATG... but it´s a fantastic album... how can someone possibly not like it ? SOAP is good music.
RobS said on December 15, 2005 12:20:
Didn’t really like it the first listen through, but some songs really stuck out. Now I really enjoy listening to it, and not because i’ve been listening to it alot over the last few days :-P
I really loved TWATG, but i wouldn’t compare this to that album. To me they’re just too different.
As LoneGunman said: SOAP is good music.
qrox said on December 15, 2005 12:48:
Well, I’m pretty sure it’s an excelent album. The first time I heard it there were a few songs I didn’t like. That was the first time that happened to me, I always liked all his songs.
But with time those songs started to sound better and now I like them all. If an album (or songs) you don’t like, makes you like it, then I think it must be good. That means I like the songs not because they are per’s songs but because they are good!!!
bbrox said on December 23, 2005 22:46:
I think the same as RobS wrote some lines above. I really love TWATG and by the way I love the “new” sound in SOAP a lot. But I would never compare these two albums. They have too different backgrounds! TWATG could have been a Rox album but NOT SOAP.
When I´m just reading the lyrics of these two works, there are worlds in between!
Vixzter said on December 24, 2005 06:58:
@Yoshiki : please don’t have that sort of opinion here as you will be burnt at the stake! ;-)
btw, I agree with you!
can see the logs being built underneath me already
Sparvogamarie said on December 25, 2005 00:26:
*Builds some logs under Vix*
How DARE you or anyone else say ANYTHING remotely negative against Per????????????? You people make me sick. Per is an extremely diverse and talented man and this album proves how great he really is. Nobody should ever be allowed to say anything about him.
Now Marie, there’s a untalented hack if ever I saw one. That woman couldn’t write an album if she was on fire.
Vixzter said on December 25, 2005 00:27:
I’ll be well on fire if someone throws a match in my direction!
Sparvogamarie said on December 25, 2005 00:31:
Well that someone is me Vix. What gives you the right to attack Per? The man is a genius and SOAP just might be the best album ever made. Get down off your high horse and admit that he’s brilliant.
Vixzter said on December 25, 2005 00:40:
*sings* to the tune of Take That - Relight my fire
(if anyones not got this tune please feel free to email me and i will send so you can get the tune in your head)
Relight my fire, this SOAP is not my desire
Relight my fire, cos i haaaaaaaaaaate this SOAP.....
can’t think of anymore words
Sparvogamarie said on December 25, 2005 00:41:
Oh how terribly mature Vix. You Marie fans just can’t take it that Per is more talented and successful than her. So you have to sink to petty name calling and childish songs. Nice.
Sparvogamarie said on December 25, 2005 01:03:
I’m sure you do. I expect that kind of behaviour from Marie fans like yourself.
Vixzter said on December 25, 2005 01:07:

Sparvogamarie said on December 26, 2005 03:25:
And so you should have been burnt Judith, talking trash about Mazarin. That album is the second greatest album of all time (SOAP is number one, obviously) and you should not say anything against it!!!!!
lauw1976 said on December 26, 2005 08:02:
The songs i’ve heard until now are not so bad. I get the album in 6 weeks or so. I’m very curious what Per Gessle does this time with SOAP.
Debora said on January 4, 2006 21:49:
I listened SOAP for the 1st time yesterday. In my opinion is a bit strange, but it’s OK.
Harplinge96 said on January 4, 2006 21:55:
Now after a few weeks I can just say:
Some songs I like really much, but it is not kicking me like Mazarin. I don’t listen to it very often.
Claire said on January 5, 2006 09:21:
I think that SOAP would be as great as Mazarin if it didnt have all the little instrumentals etc. Saying that i still love SOAP but its a grower. Its just different. Thats a good thing!
It is by far greater than FFF but that was different too- that was GT being GT and i still liked it and went to the concerts.
IMO all albums Gessle makes are good, everyone has there favourites depending on which ’mood’ you like. He is a god.
Cicci_ said on January 5, 2006 14:13:
@Sparvogamarie
Excuse me, but isn’t this a free forum where people can have the opinions they want without being executed?
Accept that not everyone loves everything Per does! It’s unneccessary to say that it sucks, because for some people it’s a great album, but people should feel free to say what they like/don’t like about the album.
I don’t love every song written by Per, and I don’t love every song written by Marie. Also, I hate neither of them. They both deserve my respect as skilled songwriters with different strengths and weaknesses, just as everyone else in the music business. Even if you don’t agree with people who don’t like the album, at least respect them for their point-of-view.
All the best!
Debora said on January 11, 2006 20:27:
I was listening to SOAP trying to get use to it but now, after some time I can say this: Per is a great songwriter but this time... I don’t know, is not a good album, there are some good songs, of course, just 2 or 3, but the worst about SOAP is that woman singing, how can she sing with Per? Horrible, I can’t listen to the songs when she sings... and that’s almost in every song!
pwbbounce (moderator) said on January 18, 2006 11:47:
I really like Hey My DJ, with Helena (the woman as Deborah put it) singing. I think their voices go well together. I think my fave on the album is either Something Happened Today or ICQGOTFTTBBU
Room_service said on January 18, 2006 16:21:
I haven’t played SOAP in a long time. It didn’t work for me. I mean, if I don’t like an album during the first listenings, it will never happen. That’s the case of SOAP. I played it a couple of times when released, but no anymore.
On the other hand, I am listening to Mazarin a lot (because the demos are out now, and Mazarin is back again in my mind). Sorry to SOAP fans, but I believe Mazarin is totally superior. Better songs, better arrangements (no 60’s influences at least!).
per_mson said on January 18, 2006 22:27:
@Cicci: Don’t worry, I think miss Sparvoga is just being a bit sarcastic here...
Harplinge96 said on January 18, 2006 23:51:
Room_Service, I thik the same. SOAP didn’t get me that much. Just listen to some songs once in a while. Mazarin is in my CD player more often!
But well everyone has his/her own taste.
roxtexanet said on January 19, 2006 05:00:
Love “SoaP” (I pay no attention to the instrumentals) and love “Mazarin” even more. Per rules.
Roxrider_USA said on December 14, 2005 03:23:
Thanks for letting us know where you stand concerning the album, even though many of the people here at TDR, like me, strongly oppose your view on the album. :-)
Thanks, anyway!
Take care!
SOAP on!
