Chart positions (again)
Wicf said on December 12, 2005 18:56:
I have, again, three questions about Roxette chart positions:
1. Was “The Pop Hits” album only #84 in UK?
2. Was “Anyone” #30 in Switzerland?
3. Was Salvation #18 in Finnland?
andi11 said on December 12, 2005 21:35:
don’t know anything about uk charts.
but #18 for “salvation” in finland at the end of 1999 is correct (http://finnishcharts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Roxette&titel=Salvation&...)
same with #30 for “anyone” in switzerland (hit the charts june 6 1999) –> http://www.swisscharts.com/showitem.asp?interpret=Roxette&titel=Anyone&c...

I thought that the Pop Hits in UK got just inside the top 40, like around 38-39. Maybe wrong??

NME used to publish a Top-100 at one point...Don’t know if they still do. The UK charts actually go all the way up to #200 but the public never gets to see it. Don’t know, maybe it’s just for the industry.

I have some questions. I’ve compiled my chart table, but sometimes the info I find is different.
This is regarding Germany, let me know if correct:
Fireworks: #11
Run To You: #51
Vulnerable: #71
Wish I Could Fly: #26
Anyone: # 62
Stars: #23
Salvation: #80
Sweden:
Real Sugar: #38?
Milk and Toast and Honey: #21?
A Thing About You: I have #14, but according another site it was #24
I will post more doubts later. I hope anyone can bring some light on this.

Looking at these German positions, I’m shocked I always thought that they were very popular in Germany. There’s a number of songs on there which charted higher in the UK than in German. Fireworks #30
Run To You #27
Vulnerable #44
WICF #11
Still not amazing positions, but better than Germany!
rox-kuryliw said on December 15, 2005 11:13:
i agree. Think its amount of promo to be honest, I remember seeing rox loads on TV when WICF came out, and it just missed the top 10, I mean where closer to sweden and have one of the biggest music markets in the world so why dont they come her to do promo more ?! ?!? ! mad
Sascha said on December 15, 2005 11:15:
What do single charts say about a song’s impact anyway? It’s only some thousand teenagers who buy singles... Roxette had always very strong album sales and airplay in Germany.
Wicf said on December 15, 2005 13:47:
I think single charts and airplay charts are very different. For example MATAH was rather an underlog in single charts, but it was a huge radio hit in many countries... And I’ve read somewhere that WICF was one of the most played songs in European radios in 1999...
@pwbbounce: I think #11 for WICF in UK is amazing.
Ingo said on December 15, 2005 19:29:
Right, Sales are not the only important thing, Airplay is as well. UK Charts are compiled by both, Airplay and Sales, the same with US Billboard. In Germany it is separated and when you look at the Airplay Top 100 positions in Germany, they were quite good (Fireworks #9, Run To you #5, WICF #2, M&T&H #7, ATAY #13,....)
I mean who doesn’t know Bruce Springsteens “Born in the USA” or Bryan Adams “Summer of ’69”. I think nobody would think that they were no hits, because nearly everybody know them. But the truth is “Born in the USA” wasn’t even a Top 20 hit in most european countries, same with “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams (failed to reach the Top 40 in UK and Germany) but both were strong Airplay hits and still on the Radio even today
animalkingdom said on December 15, 2005 20:24:
Pop Hits did NOT reach the UK top-40!
And the UK charts are NOT based on sales and airplay - they’re based on SALES only.
Wicf said on December 15, 2005 21:17:
I have a question - is there any European airplay chart??? I’m asking you because I’ve heard in the radio that Roxette’s “Wish I Could Fly” was #1 in an European chart. I’ve checked “European Hot 100 Singles”, but WICF was #20 in this chart, so I guess WICF was #1 in some European airplay chart...
rox-kuryliw said on December 15, 2005 22:58:
animalkingdom i thought same as you .
I remember working out at gym and WICF was number 1 on mtv european count down, And coming home from pud, and MATAH being number 3.
animalkingdom said on December 15, 2005 23:14:

I don’t know which MTV chart you’re referring to but on the MTV European Top 20, Wish I Could Fly peaked at #5, MTH never charted.
rox-kuryliw said on December 16, 2005 00:14:
ye thats the one MTV european chart count down with that olive skined women with a accent abit (not english), i ran to get a tape cos i couldnt believe MaTaH was in top 5 , and i got it on tape, I remember cos its the first time i saw the vid and the women was saying something about them touring europe at the time, was great to see :-D
Ingo said on December 16, 2005 10:04:
Yes there are the “Continental European Airplay Charts” and WICF was at No.1 there for 16 weeks in row. I don’t know if there is a source for these charts in the net, but I remember reading in the german charts magazine “Musikmarkt” about it.
Room_service said on December 19, 2005 11:41:
Can you check this chart figures about Sweden?
Neverending Love: #3
Goodbye To You: #9
Soul Deep: #18
It Must Have Been Love (X-mas): #4
The Look: #6 (so low?)
Dressed For Success: #2
Listen To Your Heart: #3
Dangerous: #9
It Must Have Been Love (Pretty Woman): #6
Joyride: #1
Fading Like A Flower: #5
The Big L: #10
These singles are not listed in www.swedishcharts.com, so I can’t check. That site says Spending My Time was just #37 in Sweden, is that correct?
Thank you in advance!
animalkingdom said on December 19, 2005 12:30:

The reason why The Look was “only” number 6 is that DFS was the first single followed by LTYH. And the album had already been about a few months.
Spending My Time peaked at #11 in Sweden.
And about the European Top 20 question, yes, TCOTH peaked at 12.
animalkingdom said on December 19, 2005 22:53:
In Sweden the first single was Dressed For Success.
Chances was released as a ’lead single’ in a few European territories.
Nox1983 said on December 19, 2005 23:06:
Yes, TCOTH went to 12!!!
MTV’s European Top 20 - (2001)

Hmm...I think you’re correct about all of them. Not too sure about Pop Hits in the UK.. Something like that.. 84-85.
The Finnish chart was then compiled by both airplay and sales, like the new Swedish Top 40, in the Billboard style.
You can find all the Swiss chart positions for Roxette via the search engine at www.swisscharts.com.
