DEBATE #3. Death Penalty
chippy205 said on December 5, 2005 07:26:
Are you INFAVOR or NOT. About implementing Death Penalty for people who committed massacer, rape, and other heavy crimes.
ally77 said on December 5, 2005 10:12:
Depends on what they did.... if it’s 100% certain they did commit a horrible crime, say like some of the sicking child murders here in the UK, then I say shoot them..... do unto them as they did to you....
Santi said on December 5, 2005 11:15:
I still think that the right to life is a human right. It is sort of wicked that states think they are over human rights.
rox-kuryliw said on December 5, 2005 11:51:
Im not sure, i think death is to easy way out and living is hard to do , thats what i think.
silverROSES said on December 5, 2005 11:51:
Well I’m Christian!!!! So I’m pro life!!!
BUt I think if they are child rapist I think it would be better if they should be castrated!!!!
Santi said on December 5, 2005 12:00:
Well, being Christian means nothing in this debate. I remind you Christians were the ones who had Inquisition, which meant that anyone who doubted of god or followed a different rite was condemned to death penalty. Even more, the most Christian country on Earth (The USA) is very well known for their death penalty practices.
rox-kuryliw said on December 5, 2005 12:05:
Santi very true, Im a gay christian which isnt technical possiable lol. I still think death is to easy so some who should be made to live with what they have done for the rest of the life until they get taken.
Majdy said on December 5, 2005 14:02:
i used to not agree with that... but now, many things happen. for example the terrorist in rusia that killed many people (mostly children), or the terrorist that bomb my country (and some other country) that cause lots of innocent ppl died, then I must say that I have to agree with that... although it won’t solve the problem. because u can’t stop terrorist by killing them. but mostly is just for respect the lives that lost, although it was still unfair to those victims and their families, because death penalty to the terrorist still won’t bring back those who died.

I’ve wanted to start this topic for a long time thanx:)
The crime rates in USA are still pretty high isn’t it?
Do you think they’d be higher if there was no death penalty? And is there any proof that a death penalty deters people from commiting crimes?
I’m against it. I just dont think we can play “god” with other people’s lives. It would solve a lot of problems in my county that is for sure. But i just feel it is bad karma. Maybe we should rather by trying harder at solving why people commit these crimes in the first place.
On the flip side i think death is like escaping. I think spending your whole life in jail is far worse than dying.
silverROSES said on December 5, 2005 15:02:
Santi there is a difference between a real christians and born christians ok!!

kachina008 i dont think thats true, i know im not ! I also know im a really nice person with a wonderfully good heart , i think thats what matters in the long run.
TinyBubbles i agree with you , let them rot there lives in a prison cell !
I think the view you have is different from where you are in the world.
I.e iv never seen a real gun in my life ! Im from the UK where there not readly avaliable like some places where people carry them to work and schools ! ! !
ncurran said on December 6, 2005 13:09:
Against, against, against. How any civilised person can justify killing someone as retribution for a crime I dont know. Its a cliche but “2 wrongs dont make a right”. I’m not religious at all, but i still dont think we should be playing with peoples lives and things that we dont understand. Society should be kept safe from people who are dangerous, but that is what we have prisons for.
pwbbounce (moderator) said on December 6, 2005 13:28:
Hmm, well I think it’s not good either. Lock them up and throw away the key, but I think the death penalty is sort of an easy way out for them. I’d rather die then spend a life time in prison! Also, when they say life, why don’t they mean life!! That really p’s me off!!
roxlad said on December 7, 2005 12:21:
The problem is everything could be against you, you get killed and then after ten years they find out you were innocent... too late then!!!!
I’d say that I don’t agree with death penalty but on the other hand if anything happened to one of my relatives I’d kill the ****** myself!!!!
LittleSpooky said on December 7, 2005 15:03:
The jury’s still out on what I think.
HOWEVER
To those suggesting we let them “rot in a jail cell”, in the US, I have to PAY for these people to live in that jail cell. That’s what part of my taxes go to pay for. Not to mention that the jails in the US are becoming over crowded and a lot of times, murderers and rapists are allowed to go free. People suggest they build more jails... but no one wants it in their neighbourhood. So where do you suggest we put them? The bleeding heart assholes won’t let us build them out in the desert unless we guarantee them air conditioning, food, water, shelter, etc.
Because that’s about the only place we can put them where there’s not going to be an uproar because people are rapidly building in every available spot. I don’t support “long term care” of criminals, that much is for certain.

@LS: What a pity we don’t have an “Australia” or “Siberia” anymore :P
ncurran said on December 7, 2005 19:35:
LS, good point, but did you know that the legal process of putting someone to death costs way more than locking someone up for 50 years?
tevensso (moderator) said on December 7, 2005 19:51:
I’m for it, but I can see the points for keeping the bastards alive for a very long time as well.
silverROSES said on December 9, 2005 13:49:
tevensso!!! wouldn’t be that! a much better punishment!!! a mind torture thinking when they will be given a chance to be free a again, In death penalty, if putting him to death as soon as possible we just make things easy for them..
Oldag75 said on December 11, 2005 01:06:
In the US, it costs far less to keep a guy in prison for life, than it does to execute him – given all of the required appeals and legal rigmarole mandated by a sentence of death.
In my town about 10 years ago, five teen-aged gang members were drinking by a park one night. Two young teen girls, taking a short-cut home, came upon the group. They guys immediately jumped them, assaulted and raped them, then killed them. Four of the guys were, in relatively short order, sentenced to death (they’re still on death row). The fifth was only 15, thus he was remanded to a juvenile facility. If these four guys were to be allowed to live, there is NOTHING in the world they could ever do, to compensate for that one terrible act.
A college friend of mine, late one night, stopped to help two guys who had a flat tire. He didn’t know they had just robbed a store, and were trying to get away. The killed him, and took his car. Both were later executed for that crime. I thought that exterminating those two killers was appropriate.
The paramount question, if we are to levy the death penalty, is whether we can completely prove that someone is guilty of the crime for which he is charged. There is too much error in the court system... even though the courts are especially careful in capital cases.
Personally, I think it would be a much greater punishment to lock a proven capital murderer alone in a small prison cell with absolutely nothing to do – no books, no TV, absolutely nothing to do – and keep him there, for the rest of his life. With luck, the guy would use his bedsheet to hang himself.

i am for it and think its not used nearly enough. peopel aren’t willing to invest the money it takes to research why people commit some of the most horrid crimes. In the case of pedophiles, which i regard as the most vile of criminals I think they should all be put down.
wafer_thin said on December 13, 2005 21:03:
I am against the death penalty.
I don’t believe that the government should have the ability to take a life from someone.
Even though I think that there are people that DESERVE to die, I think the system is fundamentally flawed, and as long as there is a chance that even ONE innocent person could get killed, there shouldn’t be such a penalty.
Don’t think that because I disagree with the death penalty that I’m some bleeding heart. For example, that “Tookie Williams” - I didn’t exactly cry when he was executed last night. But if keeping scum like him alive could prevent an innocent from dying, I say do it.
coyboyusa said on December 14, 2005 15:45:
every system is flawed there is no such thing as a flawless judicial process, as long as all avenues are exhausted and the evidence proved guilt and complicity, then I say fry.
Jud (moderator) said on December 14, 2005 20:38:
I’m for it in specific cases: if it can be proved 100% that the person was the killer and if the person is a serial killer. The moment this person commited a crime and enjoyed it and still did it again, he/she stopped being a human being to my eyes.
I’m also pro-castration for rapists and child abusers.

I am 100% against the death penalty and I am embarassed that my country still engages in this barbaric practice.
