Vatican To Ban Gays From Priesthood

Now this is a suprise , NOT ,
plus i wanna know what it means by gay culture lol ? my culture is same as everyone elses lol. how rude.!
From yahoo news-
A Vatican document which restricts homosexuals from entering the Catholic priesthood has been officially released. The short document takes a strict line on the place of gays in the clergy. It says practising homosexuals should be barred from entering the priesthood.
Men with “deep-seated” homosexual tendencies and those who support gay culture should also be barred, according to the paper.
Those who have clearly overcome homosexual tendencies for at least three years would, however, be admitted to the priesthood.
The “instruction” by the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education has already been praised by conservatives and condemned by liberals.
Gay groups have said the Church is using homosexuals as scapegoats for its sexual abuse scandals.
Conservative Catholics say the document as an important step in the reform of the priesthood.

Well, in Spain you pay them even if you’re not a member, since they get money from the taxes of the government...
Jud (moderator) said on November 29, 2005 12:35:
I don’t know Sweden, but in Austria they DO get money from the government AND the 1,1% (I think) of the salary of their members! Plus donations and bla bla bla - and they are still POOR, they claim.. I am still to meet a priest thin as a stick and without golden rings and alike *grr*
Santi said on November 29, 2005 13:20:
You can also increase the amount of your taxes to give voluntarily money to the Catholic Church in Spain.
But we know how Spaniards are... especially we that are Spaniards, isn’t it, Judith? :DDDD
Anyway, the piece of news does not really surprise me. A church that “bans” gays followers is just acting “consistently” when they ban them from being priests as well. Just my opinion.
My question now: do gays care at all?
coyboyusa said on November 29, 2005 17:12:
typical of the church when will people learn that pedophiles peopel who molest children are not homosexuals. if anything gays are the last celibate men the parishes can get to stay, stupid catholics this is why the fundamentalist muslims are growing in numbers because the catholics have their heads up their arses

You pretty much have to expect consistent hypocrisy from an organization that allows birth control via mathematics, but forbids the use of physics and chemistry.
Debora said on November 29, 2005 18:45:
Oh God... the Vatican... I think the Vatican should do what they have to do: helping people who is in need instead of giving opinion about what people do on their beds!!
Santi said on November 29, 2005 19:13:
@Debora: The Vatican does not have much to do with God and good. This is so that they don’t even mention God in their Consitution, the “Legge fondamentale dello Stato della Città del Vaticano 26/11/2000”.
Vatican is about power and selfperpetuating themselves in the power. It has always been and it will always be.
The problem that they have with homosexuals I guess is that they don’t have kids, so they don’t produce new customers for the church, because you know, Catholic church is all about the family convincing the little kids that all those fables they tell are true, they wouldn’t convince anyone who is old enough and reasonable...
This fear of death and fear of unknown and especially fear of hell is what gets Churches going on.
I don’t think it has to do with their sex-related affairs that they get banned. It’s simply that if you don’t want to portray that’s right, you don’t get your ministers to be “wrong people”. I think. I mean, they’ve been condemning homosexuality during their whole history, not just in the age of mass media.
Anyway, the best for us all, run away from the ones who possess the truth, they’re all dangerous.

Almost every religion in the United States gets tax-exempt status from the governement: Catholics, LDS, Protestants, and so on down the line. Those that have churches and what not. They don’t pay the taxes on the land that contains the building they worship in. Pagans and a few others actually DO pay the taxes because the buildings they operate out of, are mostly someone else’s home.
Or their outside in the woods or a park.
Talk about a descrepancy.
Oldag75 said on November 30, 2005 02:34:
I got permanently soured on organized religion when I was five, in a pre-school Sunday School class at our town’s First Methodist Church. A wizened, perfume-soaked old lady, who served us hot chocolate with skin on top, told us that Jesus would RETURN some day... and that all of us who were sinners would be sent right to Hell.
One of my classmates, a little boy, started crying. He said that he had sinned... he had recently told a “story” (meaning “lie”) to his sister about something. The old lady tried to hug him, but he just kept crying, poor kid. He was scared out of his wits.
Though I did not possess the necessary vocabulary at that time for forming formal thoughts, I instinctively KNEW there was something wrong about an old lady causing a little kid to weep with fright, in the furtherance of a religious belief. If you think about it, organized religion is a form of terrorism – frightening people into obedience with the threat of an afterlife hell, in order to make them conform to certain specified behavior requirements (such as, not eating pork) while they are still alive here.
I’ve said before that I think our Creator blew himself apart in the Big Bang to occupy every little unit of life in the universe – thus each of us presently consists of a little splinter of God. However, if there IS an existing intact God, he/she cannot possibly happy over all of the grief that has resulted from all of the human efforts to “worship” him or her. Were I that God, I certainly would not be proud of making some five-year-old boy weep with fear (and drink cocoa with skin on top).
The mass is ended, go in peace.
Congregation: (with vast relief) Thanks be to God!!

@Oldag: I think... yes, I had to double check but - I actually agree with you: “If you think about it, organized religion is a form of terrorism – frightening people into obedience with the threat of an afterlife hell, in order to make them conform to certain specified behavior requirements (such as, not eating pork) while they are still alive here.”
There could be peace in the middle east yet.

@Santi, it’s not a secret that the Vatican has nothing to do with God and good... How can one explains that they live surrounded by gold if they had something to do with God?

Should it really matter if Priests are gay or not......not allowed to have nookie...not even with the Choirboys (I know some forget this little rule;-)
LittleSpooky said on November 30, 2005 19:36:
I don’t get this whole “priests must be celibate” kind of thing. To me, that’s just plain wrong.

Why is there a bias in church....
but why does the church choose someone as if perfect to serve them well in fact christ chooses the simplest people and even a tax collector to be his disciple. Well there should be equality to all.
LittleSpooky said on December 7, 2005 14:55:
Pearl: Ain’t gonna happen in our lifetime kid. You’ll always have the narrow minded bigots that will tell all gays they’re going to Hell and point out the scripture to them that supports their theory.
btw... Howdee and welcome aboard TDR :o)
silverROSES said on December 8, 2005 08:38:
yeahh!! well in fact no word in the scripture mention homosexual or discuss anything like that..
God gave us the 10 commandments to follow..
were does the sin of being homosexual fall... it’s not even mention...
LittleSpooky said on December 8, 2005 17:17:
Did I say anywhere in my post that the information came from The Ten Commandments? NO. Go back and READ my post please and see if I mention the Ten Commandments.
Since I am not Christian, it would be highly unlikely that I would have a Bible in my possessions. HOWEVER, I do have Christian friends and I have seen it in the NKJV Bible and that it says something along the lines of: Man should not lay down with man as he does woman, or something to that effect.
Oldag75 said on December 8, 2005 23:48:
I do not know the Catholic rules in detail. Does being celibate, for a priest, mean not only that you can’t have sex with another person.... but you are also prohibited from having orgasms? (Know what I mean there?) (And if orgasms are prohibited, what about those sinful nocturnal, uh, events over which one has no control?)
Santi said on December 9, 2005 00:15:
As for homosexuality being mentioned on Christian writings, Genesis 19. http://localbreakingnews.net/01_019.htm
That’s where it all comes from. And it’s not even far from the beginning, and in the most interesting part of the book, doesn’t get to be boring, and where the so-called almighty and all-loving God acts like a total psycho seeking for attention, punishing everyone for stupid reasons and threating everyone with hell forever.
This is the most surreal part that makes you wonder WHY people believe that and not that the Earth was born from an egg or is sustained by huge turtles like other religions say :DDD
Then, on Catholic, as far as I know, they can not have sex, because sex is just allowed by Catholic Church in marriage, and if priests marry then love someone else who is not God, and they would waste too much time that should be devoted to God. They all say (nuns and monks and priests) that they love God.
As for what you say, I guess it’s doing something voluntarily, what you can’t control, you can’t. But you can avoid onanism and fornication (which is the name of sex out of marriage, if I’m not mistaken), and besides they’re both big sins that people devoted to the love of God can not commit.
silverROSES said on December 9, 2005 12:28:
The original writing of the scripture was writen in aramaic and hebrew language so many translations were made.
silverROSES said on December 9, 2005 12:28:
anyway during the early days of the R.C. religion they were allowed to get marry.
silverROSES said on December 9, 2005 15:04:
it is mentioned in history but there were no further elaboration on that........ It’s just mention, and about the book, it’s in history book... But I’m not interested to read it again... If you and if you are really interested to know... maybe you can research.I got little time to do that for you!!!!!
Santi said on December 9, 2005 15:18:
It’s just to easy to say things lightly and make them pass for truth.
You made the statement, you have to prove it, otherwise you have no credibility on this. It’s not me that has to prove something you stated.
Extraordinary statements require extraordinary proofs.
Santi said on December 9, 2005 15:21:
Moreover: “The original writing of the scripture was writen in aramaic and hebrew language so many translations were made.”
So if you guess you don’t understand exactly what they meant for sure, then how can you believe in a religion that you don’t understand its fonts. All the rest you believe in could have been misunderstood as well, and be nothing but an old tale (well, actually it is... but we’re not discussing that).
Or is it that you and the rest of Catholics understand Hebrew selectively? You just trust the translations as they please you or what?
silverROSES said on December 10, 2005 10:24:
The bible’s old testament was taken from the jewish holy book TORAH which was written in Hebrew.
It was later translated by St. Jerome in latin. He wrote the “Vulgate” the oldest version of the bible in the world... pp93-94

oh well, they go on digging their own grave.
The other day I met a friend in Sweden, she explained me that now gay couples can also get the wedding- blessing in church (protestant), and that a group of priests made a statement and signed a letter or whatever that they WON’T bless gay couples. It resulted in a bunch of people quitting the church (you know, in Sweden you have to pay a % of your salary to the church if u are a member of it) ;)
