South African Pressings
purplemedusa said on August 13, 2005 10:41:
I am about to launch a website listing various South African pressings for sale as there’s been a big demand for them lately!
I will keep prices as low possible! I’ve dealt with many fans here and trust that I have a good name within the roxette community - so u need not worry about me running away with your money.
A further note; I WILL NOT keep any stock (unless otherwise stated) and will only allow a transaction once i have 100% certainty that the item IS available.
Hopefully by tomorrow morning I’ll have things ready for transactions - and publish the URL!
TO THE MODS; Please leave this post in the Roxette side untill I’ve revealed the link!
Kindest Regards,
Hanrich Ellmann a.k.a purplemedusa

There is nothing more frustrated than knowing i’ve got the products and the web is almost finished yet I have not found the ’right’ credit card service ... all the services claims that they are easy to use but when it comes to getting the money into my account there’s issues! Could someone with some financial knowledge maybe assist/advise me with a good way of payment... bearing in mind Souh Africa doesn’t conform to Western Union, Paypal ect. It would REALLY be appreciated! I wanna get this show on the road as i don’t have much time left!

Hello:
For those who don’t have a credit card, MoneyGram is a good choice. The fees are rather cheap, cheaper than the very expensive Western Union, at least! When you are sending up to 100 US dollars, the fee is just 4 dollars (or the same amount in your local currency). When you send money, you need the receiver’s name/surname, city, country and postal code. Address and telephone is not necessary. You’ll get a reference number, and you have to email that number to the receiver. Money is available in about 10 minutes. The receiver has to go to the nearer MoneyGram agent, with a legal identification, and fill a form (including the reference number). Then, you get paid, in your local currency, of course.
I have used this system many times, and it really works. Agents are almost everywhere. You can search fo the nearest agent here: http://www.moneygram.com/servlet/DefaultApplyXSL?xslURL=/Display/temgweb...
For more info: www.moneygram.com
The main difference between Western Union and MoneyGram is the fees. WU is too much expensive! I tried to use it before, and if you wanna send up to 50 US dollars, you have to pay a fee of 15 USD!!! MoneyGram is better, and equally safe.
I hope it helps!

I have used a service provided by CCNow (http://www.ccnow.com) when paying people in South Africa. Maybe that could be something useful?! I have no clue if they have some special issues though, but it does work in SA! Hope this could be of any help!!

There’s some more updates to the site ie pictures to the stocklist.
purplemedusa said on August 29, 2005 10:15:
Well, guys/girls just to thank everyone who contacted me... it’s great dealing with all of you! Please note that there’s a suprise being planned - but will keep you informed.
I have decided to take the entire day off tomorrow to go search Cape Town’s secondhand stores tomorrow... this will give fans the opportunity to get South African pressed items at lower rates; but unfortunatly the items won’t be new. Should there be something specific your looking for please drop me a line & I’ll look out for it tomorrow!
Kind regards,

Marcus, it was a pleasure dealing with you; hope that your CD’s arrive VERY soon!
per_mson said on August 30, 2005 08:18:
Does a CD as old as Look Sharp really cost as much as 22 Euro in SA? That is quite a lot I think... Here in Europe You can get them new for 8-9 Euros nowadays...
purplemedusa said on August 30, 2005 13:54:
The thing is most Roxette items on the shelves in stores ARE imports - I haven’t seen the look sharp! or Joyride instores for MANY years now (in all honesty these two are the ones i’m having serious trouble locating in NEW condition)... but drop me a line and i’m sure we may come to some agreement.
BTW I’ll be adding another few items on the list by tonight!
purplemedusa said on August 30, 2005 14:14:
Just want to add that those prices are guidelines and not final. In some cases i am able to offer a cheaper alternative - just send a wantlist & i’ll find the best possible price for you.
purplemedusa said on September 6, 2005 08:09:
Hey guys,
Just to let you know that stock is rotating on almost a daily basis and that I can’t keep up with all the updates on my web (will try my best tho) - I’m constantly searching for ZA pressed Roxette items however I’m they’re becoming more & more difficult to find; It looks like EMI South Africa has deleted the enitre Roxette catalogue with the exception of TBH and TPH and the DVD. I’m currently awaiting official conformation of this!
Here is a list of items that’s currently available (please note certain prices/ grading is still unknown)
– please mail for updated list –
Then a further note; all people who order from me before the end of September will be put into a draw; the lucky winner will receive a brand new copy of Roxette’s Room Serivce 2CD edtion (the version with the white inner-back sleeve) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v389/purplemedusa/scan0002.jpg
*I am doing this as I’ve learned that this was the last copy available in retail in South Africa (in NEW condition) and I felt that it wasn’t fair selling this item but to give everyone an equal chance of owning this.
The people who has ordered from me since the ’purplemedusa store’ has opened will also be entered into the draw. I will ask one of the TDR guys (given that they’re not entering in the draw themselves) to choose a winner.
Well that’s all for now folk!

this seems quite expensive.. not even newly released cds are that expensive?
purplemedusa said on September 7, 2005 08:39:
Justaguy; I know that it seems expensive however I’m not the person who set these prices - South African music stores are to blame here. Secondly, i personally feel that these prices aren’t all that expensive considering that these items are NOT available anywhere elsewhere (I’m searching EVERYWHERE in South Africa at the moment to secure fans some of these items). Oh and another factor that might show these items with inflated prices is because of a strong South African currency at the moment - which is ofcourse totally out of my hands.
I am doing everything in power to keep prices as affordable as possible - hence i’ve started searching for secondhand records too as the NEW items are VERY expensive epspecially when I have to courier them to Cape Town.
I trust that this shed some light on it!
purplemedusa said on September 7, 2005 08:43:
I just received an email from EMI South Africa confirming that the entire South African Roxette catalogue has been deleted with the exception of TBH & TPH. Cheaper import albums replaced most South African roxette pressings.
purplemedusa said on September 12, 2005 05:56:
No need to apologize buddy; I’ve got nothing to hide and is always willing to answer questions!
Just a little update; there’s a couple of names in the draw already and some more that will be added very soon - in the meantime i’m still searchin my arse off to find MORE items; hoping that i can add some clear vinyls & more cassettes soon but will keep the TDR members informed!
In peace,
PM

Per it’s SUCH a pleasure dealing with you guys!
Oh I just absolutely LOVE record hunting - just found a very NICE item... but that will be added tomorrow!

There are many new copies of Look Sharp! available here in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, for a bit less than that. (Strange that Cape Town doesn’t have many??) As well as the usual of course (Joyride, Tourism, etc etc etc)
Seen some lovely new editions of DBUGTTC also..
purplemedusa said on November 13, 2005 08:02:
@ Jules, I have official comformation from Musica & Look&Listen (South Africa’s largest CD stockests) that the SA pressings are no longer available in retail... please don’t you want to do me a favour & double check if they are indeed SA pressings or imports (as most stores stock them now)! EMI has also sent me a mail saying that the entire catalogue has been deleted except for TPH & TBH! (I unfortunely DON’T have any Look Sharp CD’s available at the moment!!) A new & updated list will be posted soon...
(and yes Ted you’ll get the list first! LOL!) Please be patient with me at the moment as I’m havin a little PC trouble but all will run smoothly soon (I hope!!!).
Furthermore, the winner of the Room Service 2CD will be anounced on Wednesday & sent off the same day!
Speakith soon!!
Jules-SouthAfrica said on November 13, 2005 11:52:
yes there are many imports (believe me, im an avid collector myself, i know and check these things) but there are some south african pressings as well. few, but some. i wasnt aware they were deleted (well at least not from joyride onwards) but then again, this IS south africa and one should expect stupid things like that to happen:P
purplemedusa said on November 14, 2005 02:43:
Thanx for that info Jules... phoned around a bit and found only 1 confirmed copy of Look Sharp in GEORGE of all God forsaken places; strange they weren’t able to find any SA copies in PE for me...?!
Nevermind, but it would be nice to chat to another collector so please drop me a line!!
*PM*
Jules-SouthAfrica said on November 14, 2005 22:58:
GEORGE?? lol. that is strange. but even stranger, that i was in a store over the weekend that had copies of it, yet you say you had no luck?? then again, theyre so unhelpful and unreliable. their own manager didnt know the difference between an import and a local production. upon a particular occasion i asked them if they could order me a particular release, they called to say they got it in, i come to the shop and its the complete wrong version - yet apparantly its the same thing?!?! idiots. fools. lol.
purplemedusa said on November 18, 2005 09:14:
This is just a quick note to thank everyone for the emails - I just wanted to say that I’ll reply to each and every one on Monday as I’m going through a very difficult period and I’m barely touching ground! For the South Africans wanting to order SOAP; I’m hard at work with THIS issue (as this demands my immediate attention) and hope to send all of you a mail by tonight!! As far as the winner of the competition - I’m still getting all the names together and hopefully there’ll be a very happy person early next week!!
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding! I’m truly trying my best to rise above all the drama on this side!!
Greetings in love & peace!!
