Texas - Red Book

I figured I’d get a jump and start a thread for Texas’ new album, which we can revive when it comes out October 31st (for lucky Europeans, at least!). What does everyone think of the new single, “Getaway”?? At first I didn’t think it was very good at all, but now I quite like it... there’s something very light and breezy about it, good end-of-summer song. I may have been the only person in the world that liked “Carnival Girl” and the last album, so I’m quite looking forward to this one.

Single’s new at #6 in Britain, by the way...

hey

not heard it yet but i find with a lot of texas songs sometimes you need to listen a few times first before making judgement, after your comments i’m looking forward to it, charlene is one of my favs

filfish

I love the new single!

the single is quite good, i might buy the album when it comes out, but i’m waiting to hear some reviews and samples, as i think the music texas makes is a very mixed bag. Some of it ive loved and some ive thought is awful

i like the new single, but im gonna hold off till i hear the second single as there last album was a big ball of fudge.

I agree Neil... this song though is never off the radio in my town, but I like it a lot!

I like Getaway, but as Neil mentioned sometimes their music is a bit “Hit & Miss”. Not sure about buying the album yet though.

I liked chunks of Careful What You Wish For, Carnival Girl wasn’t one of them, though. Not sure if I’ll get the new one.

The new single is an absolute return to form - the last album was quite abysmal!. I had the good fortune of meeting Texas last week in London and got my pic taken with Sharleen! They make good pop-rock music and their G Hits show one of the best i’ve ever seen. I’ve heard a few other trax from the album, and they sound amazing....the next single’s produced by Dallas Austin so you know it’s gonna b good!

I definitely agree that “Getaway” is a return to form, but more like “The Hush” than like “White on Blonde,” and I definitely hear some elements of the last album in there (“And I Dream” for example). I’m really surprised by how negatively “CWYWF” was received by fans (even some on this board)... I just didn’t think it was all that different from what they usually do (except for “Carnival Girl,” which doesn’t sound at all like Texas, and the title track, which is just odd). I thought some of the tracks like “Where Did You Sleep” and “Telephone X” and “Under My Skin” were fantastic... “I’ll See You Through” was a bit of a bore but not terrible (although it borrowed WAYYY too much from “November Rain”... I’m surprised they didn’t get their asses sued for that one!). I guess “CWYWF” is Texas’ “Have a Nice Day” - some love it, and many hate it.

I agree totally! Altho HAND in my Top 5 fave cds of all time along with janet jackson’s janet. and Rhythm Nation efforts and some others lol......guess I am one of the lovers of HAND! Can’t understand why some fans hate it, but certainly if we all had the same taste, we’d all b boring....but Roxette would be mega!

HAND did better than RS !
