I have recently discovered......why isn’t he a star in English speaking countries??????? Just got his Live DVD and 4 of his cds and all I can say is he is mega-talented. Anyone else like?/seen in concert. Fave song has tobe the TGina duet, but the 9 cd is superb!

Yeah, exactly what I’m saying....just because he singls in Italian, he still deserves fame in the English-speaking world. If Sealion Dyin and Gloria Estefan can have foregin language hits, there certainly is a potential for him. Mayb he should do a break-through English language cd to test the waters. I think he’d be mega

Hey he’s huge in South Africa... I’m a big fan however you should give Tizianno Ferro a listen...!!

Cheers for that. Am really investigating non-English language music @ the moment, much to the bemusement of my other half! Shall check it out!

As you said you’re interested in music in other language than English, you may find this old thread from TDR interesting. I wrote down two extensive lists (one Spanish music, other international music with several Italian entries!) that you may want to check out.
Have fun with it, it’s great music out there!

In Germany he is also quite known. Though I don’t like his music. Is it a general problem that artists who do not sing in English have problems to conquer the music market in English speaking countries? Maybe the reason is that there is no urgent need for people in the UK and the US to learn a foreign language because everyone speaks English?!
I know anyway that German bands who sing in German are also quite successful in other countries. They expand to Argentina, East-Europe, Scandinavia and so on and their German lyrics even work abroad.
For instance RAMMSTEIN are quite big in Scandinavia. But I hate this band...! I never understood why Scandinavians are so crazy about them.
I am a big fan of the German punkrock band DIE TOTEN HOSEN. They sing in German and occasionally in English as well. Their drummer is from England and the singer is half English because his mother was from England. This might be an explanation why they release about one or two songs on each album in English. Moreover they are quite big in Argentina and East-Europe and their English lyrics give their fans abroad the chance to understand some songs without using a dictionary...!
Well, and of course German bands are also known in Austria and Switzerland...!

hey, i’m english and i’ve got to say i’ve not heard of the artist your discussing.
Bibi - your comment is exactly right, very few artists that sing anything other than english get a look in here and i guess in most other english speaking countries. it is to do with our education (in my opinion) we are not made to learn other languages after the age of 13 which means we dont understand songs fon the rest of europe.
i am as much of a culprit as anyone else in the uk, but i am trying to learn french and then hopefully move one to german, but in general the brits don’t need to learen a foreign language as most european languages learn english as a second language.
flattered as i am that everyone else supposedly learnes our language, i feel we are the ones that are loosing out, i spent 5 months in the Loire valley in France in 2003, though i can only speak ’Tourist French’ e went to many festivals, i might not have understood the words, but a vast majority of the songs were fantastic, i cant wait to do it again.
oh, and sorry for going on so long!

I heard of Ramazzotti from a story on a music show called WorldBeat that used to be on CNN. (That’s also how I saw Roxette had released HAND.) Stilelibero was just released and they did a profile. If not for that, I would never have known of him.
As far as other languages getting airplay—Du Hast got airplay, La Tortura might be getting something, but unless the language is understood, it’s not that easy to get it played in the US. Shame really, there’s a lot of great music in the world not in English.
9 is a good ablum, but Stilelibero and Dove C’è Musica are better.

@ Bibi, yeah I know it’s a pity German music ain’t that well known in English speaking countires, asides from Rammstein. Actually I bought the Nena/Kim Wilde duet a few days ago.....tha wouldabeenmega!
I’d love to see Shakira’s new cd selling well, as the last real mega Spanish album was Gloria Estefan’s Mi Tierra, and that was in 93....there have been some others since, but not many!
I agree ref. Ramazzotti. I got most of his cds now, but it’s seeing his live! DVD that really helps u get a feel for the songs....9 is ace, and the Tina duet probably his finest moment, but I don’t necessarily believe Tina carried it. The melody just had ”hit” written all over it! His Cher & Joe Coacker duets ain’t bad either.....plus, I love his tattoos, lol

off topic: Scorpions are German and they are famous all over the world. They´re great!

Nek is great too. Someone recommended him to me because I like Eros and now I have quite a few of his CD as well.
As for Tina Turner carrying it—the original version on Tutte Storie has no Tina on it and I definitely miss her. He rerecorded a bunch of songs for his Best Of and she was part of that updating. Much better with her than without.

Because he sings in Italian?
