I’m making a CD of Rox for a friend of mine who started to like them. I don’t really want to put too many singles on though, but their faves at the moment is Real Sugar and Fireworks, so they’ll have to go on. And I’m only putting album tracks on.

I’m finding it hard to work out which ones to put on. Also on want “pop” songs on. So far I have:

1 - Surrender
2 - Pearls of Passion
3 - Paint
4 - Chances
5 - Hotblooded
6 - (Do You Get) Excited?
7 - Things Will Never Be The Same
8 - Keep Me Waiting
9 - Fireworks
10 - Lies
11 - Crush On You
12 - 7Twenty7
13 - Pay The Price
14 - Staring At The Ground
15 - Real Sugar
16 - Centre of the Heart
17 - Fool
18 - My World My Love My Life
19 - Everyday

What would you change about this list?? Suggestions would be welcome, it’s gotta be the best Rox compliation EVER!!

I would take off “My World, My Love, My life”, and put “breathe” on.
I dont know if i would start the CD with “surrender” either, probably better to start with a more upbeat song like “Secrets that she keeps” or “Like Lovers do”, if you want to include other songs from POP.

I personally would not have chosen “Lies” or “7twenty7” either, as i think they are overly cheesy. Maybe “I’m Sorry” instead of “Lies” and “Beautiful Things” or “WICF” instead of “7twenty7”.

Its pretty hard to choose just 19 songs to sum up their career though, and its difficult because everyone has different tastes anyway

Thanks for that Neil.

It is hard. The reason for some of the songs I choose were because they wanted only fast, upbeat songs. I thought Surrender was quite good to start because of the start if the song, and then the guitars come in.

I will change My World for Breathe though. Can’t believe I didn’t put Breathe on in the first place!!

“I´m Sorry” + 1 song in Spanish to get a feel how does it sound like.

Seeing as the person is Dutch, I don’t think a Spanish song would be useful!! LOL

There’s no SIMC or SDLHA in your list. I’d put in at least one of them songs.

yeah SDLHA would be good if you want more upbeat songs

SIMC way before SDLH

Final list which I’ve done:

1 - Surrender
2 - Pearls of Passion
3 - Paint
4 - Chances
5 - Hotblooded
6 - (Do You Get) Excited?
7 - Things Will Never Be The Same
8 - Keep Me Waiting
9 - Fireworks
10 - I’m Sorry
11 - She Doesn’t Live Here Anymore
12 - Crush On You
13 - Pay The Price
14 - Staring At The Ground
15 - Real Sugar
16 - Centre Of The Heart
17 - Fool
18 - Breathe
19 - Everyday

Thanks for everyone who made comments/suggestions!! Not really sure why I left of SDLHA or Breathe!!

@ Rox-K - They didn’t want songs on there which they already knew, hence the reason why only a couple of singles. They would know SIMC more than SDLHA

Thats a really good list. hopefully they will like it

Even made one for myself. It’s better than having to keep changing the CD all the time!

I may be late but I definitely would have replaced the following songs with something else (underrated singles, maybe):
1 - Surrender
2 - Pearls of Passion
3 - Paint
13 - Pay the Price
19 - Every Day

Oh, and imo Lies should’ve made the final cut :)

I have mixed feelings on “Lies”. I remember when C!B!B! was first released it was my favourite song on the album, as it was quite rocky and that was the direction i wanted Roxette to take at the time. But looking back on it and listening to the track now, i just cant get past the awful lyrics. I know Per has written a lot of these playful lyrics in the past, but the lyrics to this song are just cringeworthy

You think they’re that bad?? I don’t consider them any worse than the lyrics in The Look.

Silver Blue would’ve been a great choice. And i know it’s Album songs but if you consider Rarities and album Sweet Hello Sad Goodbye is a great song too.

I think Shadow of a Doubt is a great rox song , but maybe a little 80’s sounding?

What about Entering Your Heart?

”...but maybe a little 80’s sounding”

So, what do you mean with that?
The 80’s were cool, nothing wrong with that.

Better than the most crap you here these days, where hardly any original bands can be found, but only covers and/or remixes.

I meant that some people dont like too cliche songs and that song has a slight 80s feel to it - although I love it! I listened to that and chances over whilst I was deorating today! ;)

Fireworks and real sugar are quite modern and rocky tunes compared to anything from Look Sharp! Twas what I meant!

RobS, yes the lyrics to the look are also playful and meaningless, but i think it is a much more sophisticated pop tune, and the music kind of fits in with the lyrics.
Lies, although it sounds quite good is a bit “painting by numbers” for my liking, if that makes any sense. A very basic, run of the mill melody with awful lyrics. As a Roxette fan, I can still appreciate it in the wider scheme of things for what it is, but it isnt a song I would use to introduce someone to Roxette.

“As a Roxette fan, I can still appreciate it in the wider scheme of things for what it is, but it isnt a song I would use to introduce someone to Roxette”

I see where your coming from there, and have to agree with that :-)

if you wanna make the new person a fan give them the entire hand album but put a scratch throught ycpyaawag

I think Stars would scare them off. They don’t like that sort of music.

As it goes, she’s loving the songs which I did for her. So it sort of worked. She said that she’s going to buy an album when she get’s back home in October because they’re cheaper in Holland then over here.

One new Rox fan!!
