sick of peopel trying to one up people on disaster

why is it we have to one up each other on the severity of our disasters, isn’t the loss of human life enough?

i really really loathe humanity as of late

well not over keen on you either mate lol

I am not sure what you mean?

Coyboy, I am much sicker of it than you are.

Are not.
Am too.
ARE NOT.
AM TOO !

Don’t understand this!! Will someone be kind enough to explain??

The honorable component of humanity is in GREAT shape, so there’s no reason to loathe them. It’s the dishonorable sector that’s causing all of the problems – the thieves and looters and parasites, and the religious ideologues who INITIATE violence.

One of the things that dishonorable people do is attempt to obtain some commodity – be it money, or perhaps mere pity – based on some misfortune they’ve undergone. That is called emotional blackmail (it pops up in the Dear Abby advice column about once every three months). These folks think that carrying a wound of some fashion ENTITLES them to obtain something from others who had nothing to do with causing the wounds.

I began to understand this concept long ago, when I dated a fatal-attraction psycho-emotional-wreck who claimed that her parents had beaten her as a child, and for that reason I should love her and allow her to move in with me (and, incidentally, help pay her delinquent income taxes). In some manner, that sort of thing will happen to everyone eventually..... so if it hasn’t already, BRACE YOURSELF.

Humanity’s honorable component is still working hard to improve things, invent things, follow reason and upgrade the human condition... they’re doing just fine.

eh ! ! lol

this thread is really pointless. Coyboy, if you were refering to another thread on the board, you should have posted about it there

its an overall comment on the weay we all think our national disasters are the ones who shoudl make headlines n junk its very annoying

is that what there saying in US ? :-/ no wonder i dont like the country that much.

Oh dear...

Rox: So far as I know, none of my friends are saying anything of the sort. However, it is being compared to the attacks of 9-11 as well as the attacks in Spain.

i see, i cant get US news on my sky so i dont know what they say.

I”ve never heard anyone comparing 7/7 or 9/11—aside from pointing out the Al Queda connections. Comparing it with the Spain bombing, yes, but not the 9/11.

I haven’t either...

It’s being compared to 9-11 because of the fact that Britian has pretty much backed the US in this farce of a war and so on down the line. In the news (and I wish I could remember what channel was running it) some made the passing remark that it brought 9-11 back to the forefront of some peoples minds as it was a “sensless attack on innocent people”... I think I’m quoting that right.

Does it remind *me* of 9-11? In many ways, but that’s a discussion I won’t get into on this board because it’s an inappropriate forum no matter that this is Off Topic or not.

it also gets alot of attention because england has a very large impoverished muslim population alot like france

Coyboy, what a lot of rubbish. I take it by England, you mean the UK as a whole, and if so i can tell you that there are 1.6million muslims. Not a small number, but hardly a huge proportion of a 60 million population. Most are of Pakistani descent, and they are not impoverished at all. Sure there are poor areas inhabited by some muslims, but actually on average they are better off and contribute more in taxes than white families

the uk’s own figues had 40% of mulsim men between the ages of 18-25 as being wither unelmployed or in underpaying jobs

That is not true coyboy, so pls quote your sources at least

Edit: I think i found the figures you were talking about. Its is 37%, but that is only for one area of London. Of course there are areas where a high proportion of muslims are unemployed and live in poverty, but the same could be said for white non-muslims. There are some areas where hardly any muslims live that have a 50% unemployment rate. After having looked into it, probably if you average it out over the country, muslims are poorer than non-muslims, but not by a huge margin.

In Scotland, there are only 60000 muslims, but it is very rare to find a muslim living in a poor area, or in a dead end job. Most of them own their own businesses or work as doctors/hospital specialists, etc and are very well off. It is important not to generalise too much.

well half arent employable really , cos they cant speak english or very little ! , when i was hiring staff for ’NEXT’ retail when i was office manager there the amount that we got sent from agencies they had little english or none was shocking really was.

Again dont call me racist for stating my experiences , the younger generation are more willing i found.

again, rubbish. Certainly it could be said that some immigrants dont have a good standard of english, but that could be said for ALL immigrants, including Europeans and people with white skin. It has nothing to do with colour or religion.
It is important to distinguish the difference between economic migrants, asylum seekers, and british muslims, as all these groups have different qualities and needs. It is important to remember that most muslims in the UK are 2nd or 3rd generation who were born and brought up here and english is their 1st language in most cases. It is important not to generalise. Other muslims might be asylum seekers from the middle east or africa. Of course their situation is going to be different.
