Guernsey

Hello!!

Just wondered if anyone has been, or indeed heard of, my home island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

Maybe you’ve seen the wonderful advert (!!) on Channel 4 if you live in the UK.

Be good to know if anyone’s been, and what they thought of it

I’ve not been there but I’d like to visit the Channel Islands sometime. There seems to be some cheap flights these days. Do you fancy giving us some recommendations?! Which is best for a first visit - Jersey or Guernsey? Are there cheap ferries between the islands? What time of year is best to visit? Is there any budget accommodation? Dunno why those thoughts came into my head, but I’m always interested in travelling - any advice would be well received :-) All the best, Rich

Hi Rich,

You’re asking the right person! I actually work for VisitGuernsey (Tourist Board) !!

There is daily Ferries from Weymouth, Poole and Portsmouth with Condor Ferries. Weymouth and Poole route use a fast cat with under 2 1/2 hour crossing, and Portsmouth use a conventional ferry, taking 7 hours. www.condorferries.co.uk . Condor also do day trips between Guernsey and Jersey for around £30. There are also some ferries between Guernsey and Alderney. For day trips this would be £34, and operated by Manche Iles Express www.manche-iles-express.com

You can also fly between the Islands for day trips, but these can be a lot more expensive than the ferry. Around £70-£80 for a day return. www.aurigny.com and www.rockhopper.aero

There are flights from various airports around the UK. Without knowing which part of the UK you are from, can’t say which airline would fly from your nearest airport. Have a look on www.flybe.com, www.aurigny.com and www.rockhopper.aero and it will say where they fly from.

For accommodation on Guernsey, your best bet would be to look on our website www.visitguernsey.com . This also gives links to various tour operators.

Jersey and Guernsey are very different. Jersey is a lot more commercial like the south coast of UK (say like Bournemouth), where Guernsey is a lot more relaxed. You can also travel to Herm and Sark a lot more easier and frequently from Guernsey. Both islands are car free, and are really nice. You can have a look at there websites. www.herm-island.com and www.sark.info

Wow, that was very professional! I have to say these things a lot! If you need any more help, let me know.

Cheers!

Paul
