Blatant Copyright Violation??

Hi,
I was on Napster last night and was VERY bothered by something I was listening to. I came across a song by a Dutch group called Back 2 Basics. One of their songs seemed extremely familiar....Roxette popped into my head, and I compared “Joyride” to Back 2 Basics’ “Ek Wil Gaan Jol.”
The tune is the SAME. Even the guitar solo is identical.
Does anybody know if Roxette is aware of this???
Concerned -

Oh, I found a link for everyone who’s interested in hearing a clip of it. And it seems it is a South African band.

It is a very crappy cover!
Don’t these bands have any respect?
It should be forbidden to cover Roxette, unless the band has the explicit approval of Per or Marie (after Per/Marie have judged the cover themself).
In any other case: Don’t cover Roxette!
It won’t be as good as the original anyway.
Only if it is a real good cover (and thus positive for the name of Roxette), covers are allowed.he
The problem is that most coverbands think they are having a good cover. I can help them out of the dream:
YOU DO NOT!!!
Get lost with all those stupid covers!!!

That IS another version of Joyride!
Dunno if there is any infringement going on here, it depends if they asked permission, or payed any rights to Roxette.
The only way to find out is ask the Rox management.

OMG! how much of Joyride is in that.... these guys must have had permisson from Per for this because that otherwise is completed a rip off copy... they could not possible get away with this...
but on the other hand if it’s just a cover band then I guess they are doing nothing wrong...

this is the worst cover i have ever heard, made no mistake, everything about this cover is terrible. What a shame that such a great song was ruined in such way :(((

Don’t know exactly how it works, but I guess that if you don’t try to make money out of it, it can’t be a problem.
To me it sounds like a coverband who plays at weddings and such that translated the lyrics. Don’t see the problem

Yip, they’re South African - and trust me - they don’t even feature on the SA music scene. Bands like that have flooded the market in the last couple of years. Everything from covering (i should rather say spoofing) “Hey ya” to “Wild thing”... argh, it’s horrific. And yes, they do get the ok from EMI.
Think about it this way: they’re like Weird “Al” Yankovich - without the ripping off part.
Cheers

I would like the full version, to play on the top note to annoy someone I know! anyone know where I can get the full version! ?

@Ally: How cruel can you be to your friend(s) to let them listen to this?
With Friends like that, you don’t need enemy’s ! :)

You don’t have to be friends with everyone you know :) I know my neighbours ;)
Btw, I like the song, sounds funny. Must be the language :D
ally77 said on May 10, 2005 20:20:
@ sommartiderhejhej... ha ha, I am only friendly with about 3% of my neighbours the others including (and no offence to my south african friends here) the south african annoy the hell out of me, so I wanted to wind them up! :)
carbon_boy said on May 11, 2005 07:03:
@ally: LOL! It might just backfire and you’ll end up annoying yourself. You don’t know yet, he might just love those horrific South African band wannabies.
@ Whoever replied on the Weird Al comment (soz, I forgot who did... teehee): Yes, Weird Al is funny, but so are these bands. They want everyone to take them seriously. And they just make such arses out of themselves by doing music like this. Thats the funny bit. You must see the music vids for these kinda songs. Its quite embaressing!
Later ;o)

@Kathrin: They’re not stealing. They are covering the song in a different language, and they got permission to do so.
Cheers

Couldn’t it be a version?
By what you say I think it’s not Dutch, but Afrikaans, and if I’m not mistaken “Ek wil gaan jol” means “I want to have a good time” in this language. For what it would mean something similar to “Join the Joyride”.
