I would like to know how many of you have actually heard “The Tears of a Clown” after being mentioned on Spending my Time by Roxette. What I mean is if you really know which is the sound of Tears of a Clown or you never were that curious.
EDIT: OH, and I forgot to ask, do you actually think that it’s easy to fall asleep to the sound of that song? :D

I always thought I was singing the lyrics wrong in SMT, but never bothered to check what the real ones were...
“tears from a cloud” was what I’ve sung it as (up to now) :P

@ zargo:
right when I first heard it I thought it was ” tears of the clouds” Quite funny
Spending my time was one of my early favorite that’s why I listen to it most of time and feel the song as if it happens to me...

LOL! No it would NOT be easy to fall asleep to Tears Of A Clown, especially if it’s the Smokey Robinson version. It’s rather peppy and jaunty with those heartbreak lyrics. Great musical counterpoint between the two reflecting exactly what the song is about.
I suppose if she was THINKING of the song, then maybe she’s be singing it as a mournful ballad.
Excellent tune, though. I’d recommend you find somewhere and listen to it. Just for kicks, the lyrics:
THE TEARS OF A CLOWN
Now if there’s a smile upon my face
It’s only there trying to fool the public
But when it comes down to fooling you
Now honey that’s quite a different subject
But don’t let my glad expression
Give you the wrong impression
Really I’m sad, Oh I’m sadder than sad
You’re gone and I’m hurtin’ so bad
Like a clown I appear to be glad ooh yeah
Well they’re some sad things known to man
But there ain’t too much sadder than
The tears of a clown, when there’s no-one around
Hmm Oh yeah, baby
Now if I appear to be carefree
It’s only to camouflage my sadness
And honey to shield my pride I try
To cover this hurt with a show of gladness
But don’t let my show convince you
That I’ve been happy since you
Decided to go
Oh I need you so
I’m hurt and I want you to know
That for others I put on a show
Well they’re some sad things known to man
But there ain’t too much sadder than
The tears of a clown, when there’s no-one around
Oh yeah
Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my surface hid
Smiling in the crowd I try
But in a lonely room I cry
The tears of a clown
When there’s no-one around, oh yeah, baby
Now if there’s a smile upon my face
Don’t let my glad expression
Give you the wrong impression
Don’t let this smile I wear
Make you think that I don’t care
Cos really I’m sad
