Hey!
Thanks for leaving a message!
I love the track. Went out and brought a copy of the Funky House compliation, just for this song. I think it’s the best thing which could happen for Roxette at the moment. Maybe it will get them recognised again in the music industry, esp. in the UK.
I’ve heard that it’s getting played in clubs all over the UK, and it was played on Saturday night in a club where I live, Guernsey.
It must be great for you if Roxette have approved of it to. At least you’re hard work will have paid off!
Anyway, good luck with the track! and thanks for remixing a great song!
Paul, Guernsey

Hi! Personally I hate it when great songs get covered by some dance acts and are turned into flat dance tunes without soul. But in contrast I quite like your remix of FLAF!
Because 1. you use original samples and not a cheap wannabe singer, 2. it’s well done, 3. Roxette gets credits being part of the title/artist. I hope this single does well in the charts and is fuel to a Roxette revival!
Roxette-atic said on April 18, 2005 14:38:
This is a great remix!! I always hate when other ppl cover/remix Roxettes stuff, but this time I really really like the song. I hope for a huge hit!

thank you very much for your message. I’m very curious about the video; it sounds great what you wrote!!!
good luck for the charts!!!
Rich-UK said on April 18, 2005 16:11:
I liked your message. I don’t think you need to defend your position so much though ’cos most people round these parts have been really positive about the remix. Well done and if it charts high then, as you say, it’s great news all round. Good luck from Rich ;-)

thanks for posting info about the remix. I must admit, i wasnt sure about it when i first heard it, but it has seriously grown on me. I ordered the promo off ebay which hopefully i should get in the next few days, and of course i will also buy the commercial single when it is released so hopefully it will do well in the charts.

Maybe I’m blind, but where did you all find the song? I’ve clicked though the entire site but found nothing. I’m really interested in that remix, so if anyone can give me a hint, I’d be pretty grateful. Thx ;-)
Dancing_DJs said on April 18, 2005 18:36:
Thanks for the comments everyone, I hope it does as well in the charts as many music-industry people are saying it will....
As Sascha said it was soooooo important to keep the original vocals and samples in the remix, to have them re-sung and replayed would kill the track and we (Harry, myself and our record label) all agreed that if the sample request was turned down it would be scraped..
We re-played and kept the “dreamy” piano intro in the radio edit and it sounds ace!!
I’ll post a clip for ya all to listen to in the next couple of days, my server is down at the moment but should be back up and running anytime..
On a personal note the Roxette track I would most like to remix would be “Silver Blue”, the lyrics melody and feeling in that track are perfect.. But to do a worthy job on that we would require the studio acapella and parts which are not publicly available, but who knows - if Fading goes top 3 and I write a very nice e-mail to Per... :)

By the way, Is it planned to be released only in the UK, or also in Ireland and perhaps even more countries in Europe?
harriej said on April 18, 2005 21:15:
Usually i find it indeed a sacrilige to cover a roxette-track, since more then 99% of the covers ruin the original track and do more harm then any good to the name of the original artist (in this case roxette).
But, since Roxette, via EMI have approved your version and you clearly explain you have made this cover out of love for roxette and not just because you want to score cheaply, I do hope that you will do well with this cover and that it makes people think:
O yes, this was done by Roxette in the past, Let’s buy all Roxette’s albums :)

All Around The World (our record label) has a set style of cover for this kind of release, here is the design for our other release coming out next month (under our other name Friday Night Posse):-
http://members.aol.com/djscottpage/fnpcover.jpg
The coloured guy at the front is Terry, he did the additional vocals on the track, then in the middle Harry Hard and to the right myself..
We would have had Gabrielle in the picture but in the sampling/publishing contract we could not use her likeness on the cover or video whereas i *think* that Roxette have agreed to let us use their image on the cover (as they have agreed to allow us to use the original video) So their pic will be in the letterbox and upper right hand quarter..
As for the colour that’s down to the label, i kinda think red would be cool..
Hope that helps :)

Release dates are often put back by days or even weeks for various reasons, as the 12” promos are being mailed out to the dj’s this week it only leaves just over 2 weeks til the retail release which doesn’t seem overly long to me - as i said i’m over at the label this week and i’ll get a 100% answer and date for ya :)

@Scott Page (Dancin DJ’s): I’ve been a fan of this mix since a friend sent me the White Label mix a couple of months ago. You guys ROCK. I’ve had the DJ at my fave club play it on Saturday night and the crowd went Ape-sh*t over it! He (the DJ) just wanted to know when he can get a copy of the real thing... thanx for the info ;o)
Apart from that, don’t bother with the negative comments made on the forum about the mixes. The negative comments, as you would’ve noticed, came from people who don’t club or like dance music. They don’t understand what an honour and compliment it is for a band to have one of their songs sampled/remixed for the dancefloor. They don’t understand what an awesome feeling it is to be on the dancefloor at 3 in the morning and hear someting like this spinning on the decks.
Best of luck with the charts/sales (I don’t have to add dancefloor - we know how well its doing there) and even better luck with remixing Silver Blue in the future.
With both thumbs up, have a good one,
Carbon_boy.

The only downside I have from listening to the samples was: To much of the original song was used like the piano in the start, If you wanted to use it you should have re-created that part, cause by not doing that I was confused by the fact that the song sounded like the original that was edited and other stuff was “just” added to it. I think if you had the type of access to the song like you did it could have been better doing it ALL your way instead of keeping to much of the original track otherwise it sound cool

I see your point and if we had access to the studio parts, samples and acapella then yes we could have done a full “re-work” of the song - but all we had to use is the “as-is” album version hence we are very limited to what we can do musically...
Roxette and their label were kind enough to allow the use of the sample but for us to go back and start asking for studio parts might be considered taking the piss :)

Don’t you hate it when people you like release singles the same week!!!!
I haven’t bought a UK single since 2001 - I decide to buy Geri’s next single only to find that it now collides with a Roxette record!
How strange - I kinda liked Roxette first since 1994 when Almost Unreal was a hit but never had an album til the Ballad Hits! But I liked Geri since Spice Girls til now!
Obviously Im gonna get both but how ironic is it that they HAVE to be the same week?
I’m routing for both - maybe you can make a historical tie to no.1 lol?

It is not my intention to disrespect some people capacity of thinking but for me it is not the smartest idea to release another single that date:
—————————————————–
May 23
*** Coldplay - Speed Of Sound ***
Amerie - 1 Thing
Basement Jaxx Ft Lisa Kekaula - U Don’t Know Me
The Bravery - Fearless
Brian McFadden - Demons
Daniel Bedingfield - The Way
George Michael - John and Elvis Are Dead
Geri Halliwell - Desire
*** Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl ***
Hot Hot Heat - Goodnight Goodnight
Motley Crue - If I Die Tomorrow
My Chemical Romance - Helena
—————————————————-
It’s one of the toughest weeks in a long long time. It’s almost impossible for Coldplay missing the top of the chart (they deserve the #1 indeed). The next week would a little more easier:
—————————————————-
May 30
Foo Fighters - Best Of You
Nelly - N Dey Say
** White Stripes - Blue Orchid **
—————————————————-
I don’t think Nelly would have another #1 so the strongest to beat seems to be White Stripes.
For me the single would have more chances if you put it back one more week. Fighting Coldplay on theirs return won’t be the smartest choice.
- Thanx Chart Refugees for the info -

@ Dancing DJ. Couple of questions:
1) What clubs in the UK are you playing in the near future? (I also assume that you will play FLAF….)
2) Do you have further detail on the release date, and is it only going to be a UK release or are you planning to release world wide.
3) Is the song playing on any radio stations you know of? (I went to Virgin mega store today to go listen to the single, but they only have a 30second clip on their system for the “fresh funky house anthems” CD and I really would like to hear the full song…)
4) When do you expect the video will get some airplay? (Is the video complete?)
Thanks
G

Hey G
1/ I have a residency at a club called Trilogy in Doncaster - I’m there every thurs fri and sat night.. We also dj all over the UK as The Friday Night Posse, usually every couple of weeks.. (and yes i play it every night”” )
2/ Pencilled in for the 23rd of May, wilol know better this week. Our label AATW was responsable for Dj Casper, Ultrabeat- Pretty green eyes, LMC - Take me to the clouds above and many more, all have been pan-european hits so FLAF will see a wide release if the demand is there :)
3/ All the club and radio promotions have started this week so it should be starting to get played any day soon :)
4/ The video is being completed this week and should be with the video channels in the next week or so....
Hope that helps x x

our copy of rock set (Rock Set was the original title on our houseversion almost a year ago)
hi@all.
It is not my intention to make any of the Roxette Fans angry, but sometimes the truth can hurt I guess.
please note this is not a nice statement. But I had to do it!
the whole story:
One of our producers 2-4 Grooves came up with the idea of remixing fading like a flower in a modern new way. This was in summer 2004.
Now 2005, a company named “all around the word” who seem to steal almost every good production from young talented producers on small independent labels around europe, (who do not have the money of EMI in their back!)
put one of their quality production teams on the scene to copy (yes I mean copy, I am sure none of you will find a difference in our original version from months ago on Secret Service (Vinyl only)
Dancing Dj’s did not even change our new composition in their “Original Mix” (we did not intend to make a cover version!) at all. How poor remix skill are that???
The Boss of AATW.com (the idea steal company for emi, I believe) said to one of our friends he did not even know about our version. Very strange that he creates exactly the same thing if he doesn’t know, or?
Stealing money making : examples : LMC - take me to the clouds above (before made by Mash Up Kids from Germany / Freeloaders stolen as well and so on...
(I don’t know how, but I have the feeling that the original producers on several Tracks which were ripped by AATW join forces and fight back...) watch out Dancing Jokes.
ok, that’s all.
now I feel better.

However, u r rather stupid to make these claims now - everyone is hyped about this release... let it go ahead with the planned promotion and THEN claim the ownership... HELLO ROYALTIES!!

if its true, a really bad story. and i’am thinking about to pay anymore my records. i payied until today every record, with the idea, that the money would be invested in young and talented musicians. but when emi or other big labels steel material, so i can also download my songs at the net.
really bad

@ Purple... I did not get mine, think it was a ploy to get this release all hyped up! :)
Whoever asked for the vinyl.... it is suppose to be released on 12”, well according to the HMV website...
As for the fact it was stolen, I’m with PM on this, if it was wait for the release then proceed with the courts...
secretservice said on May 12, 2005 20:31:
hi @ all,
thanks for your feedback. It was not our intention to claim any money, just to express our feeling about other people simply copying our Housetrack with Samples of Roxette. I mean we are not in a position to claim anything. Roxette are the rightholders. that’s it. We may have the composition rights on our Mix. ok. However.
new information :
ok. this is internal knowledge, which will upset Ministry of Sound a lot! but I decided to speak about it with you all.
Ministry of Sound tried to license our original Version of (Fading like a flower) called rock set. They asked us take their replayed parts of Roxette (which sounded quite nice) and do a one to one recreation of our own track.
We did, after we changed half of Minstry’s Gangster Contract! We even did 6 REmixes for free. After we signed the contract they did not send it back to us and did not sign it back. + didn’t reply to our calls anymore. (very kind, first we had them on the phone every minute and when they got what they want) bye bye fuck of.
This is the last time we deal with Ministry of Sound.
The same time they told us to sign a paper which allows them to sue AATW for copying our composition( even if we used the samples of roxette, we have the composition rights they assumed on our Mix, as it is not a cover version, but a new interpretation of the classic by Roxette)
what do you guys think. Is this not a very very strange story? If anybody can put some light in this. Please do so.
There are rumours about Eric Prydz doing fading like a flower too... (hmmmmm???)
Hi purplemedusa. please explain : did any fans who asked for promo’s get them? I don’t understand your saying. Do you mean the promos dancing dj’s promised?
colinvdbel (moderator) said on May 12, 2005 20:43:
@secretservice: Yes, Eric Prydz did a remix of Fading Like a Flower too. It’s the first track of his new album. It’s not released yet, but the promo CD is available on the internet, and I was able to get a listen. It’s not the same as the Dancing Djs version but ofcourse the idea is the same. He put his ’own sound’ to the song though, in my opinion.
secretservice said on May 12, 2005 22:30:
you see Colin, as I prooved it with our mix. THis is no Eric Prydz. It is only 2-4 Grooves - rock set all around in the internet...to be downloaded (peer 2 peer)
Have fun with the mix I send you. good night. joe

secretservice said on May 13, 2005 11:57:
you see. I was telling the truth. It’s really a shame that Dancing DJ’s copied our Version. But what can we do? Should we take it as a compliment that our mix is that good?
However. We continue to work on our other nice productions...
all the best to ya all.

Here’s an idea for all you “talented” DJ’s out there. Try writing your own songs and concieving your own ideas.
Then perhaps the squabbling amongst you all will cease.
“Our production?” - Hardly. You’re all leeching off the hooks and melodies that someone else has created, so if anyone should be crying foul, it should be this dude in Sweden with the initials P.G.
Best wishes though to all you “talented” DJ’s out there.
secretservice said on May 14, 2005 08:20:

you are right, of course we used samples. No doubt. But please note the following :
The dancemusic scene mostly is based on samples. It is all about the famous Vocals our sounds. But we don’t use new Samples, only mostly from the 70s /80s.
We were only angry that somebody copied our “Remix”.
YOu have to know that we bring out sucessfull music without using any samples as well. Please have a quick listen : www.discogalaxy.com (Jorge Martin - ain’t no love or Discoolux - natural love)
As our small company have to survive on the market we have to release records that the market demands. Mostly the people ask for samples...

The mix of FLAF by the Dancing DJs: some questions:
(1) Has it yet been released in the UK?
(2) If not when is the release date?
(3) Is it still expected to be successful?
I’ve been out of the country for a while so thanks in advance for any replies. Best wishes, Rich ;-)

@ secretservice and everyone else here: I got a copy of the white label/Love EP mix you did, called Rock Set last year. When Dancin DJ’s rocked up with their mix, I thought it was them that had done the original and that their website changed (yes, mr Service, I was on your site or a site featuring you). But now after reading your post, I realised that they NEVER mentioned the fact that their WL/Love EP mix was originally called Rock Set. And it was quite strange that someone can finish a 5/6track mix in 2/3 days starting from scratch.
To make you smile a bit: to this day, Im still listeneing to YOUR mix. Hey, I even got my fave club’s DJ to play it almost every weekend for the last month or so.
So.... two thumbs up to you Mr Service! You’ve done an absolutely smokin job on this. And I hope that you’ll get what you deserve with regards to this.
Cheers

Hi there,
This is one member of the Duo from Cabin Crew.
I sympathise with Joe Kurta, as I know what it is like to have your music sampled and even blatenlty stolen from under our noses... take for instance our relase of Star To Fall... it was produced long before Sunset Strippers and Boy Meets Girl was extremely happy about the song... then Sunset Strippers caught wind of it... and as you know, they released too... yet, we are proud to say that we won overall as Boy Meets Girl, recorded fresh vocals for our track... All I wanted to say was it was a cut throat world out their... and us DJ’s need to watch our backs...
Love your work Joe... have quite a few tracks of yours... even if one or 2 are illegal downloads... just a fan who can’t find your music here!
Anyway... let the games begin, like with our track... Fading Like A Flower... 5 million versions, only one top spot... it’s not a fun game to play!
1/2 of Cabin Crew.
Peace.

They are normally very reliable. Its disappointing, but not surprising with very little promotion apart from the box music channel which has low audience figures, and the fact that a retailer like Woolworths isnt stocking it doesnt help at all, as they are the biggest seller of singles in the UK. I also noticed on i-tunes, that you can only download 4 of the mixes, and you cant download the single as a whole, which wont help the download sales either
pwbbounce (moderator) said on July 26, 2005 11:31:

ncurran said on July 31, 2005 10:59:
For some reason Woolworths havent stocked the single. They make up their own charts. It is a disaster for the singles success though, as a vast proportion of the singles sold in the UK are at Woolworths. It is likely to enter the official charts at around #20 tonight, but it would have gone top 10 in woolworths were selling it
ally77 said on July 31, 2005 11:27:
I just watched the CDUK chart on ITV1 and it did not make the top 10, in all the weeks we have known about it I only heard it twice on the radio and that was weeks ago...
Personally I think the flop was using the Roxette name in the title... if they had dumped that it might have got more airplay... I mean let’s face when Roxette where around they hardly got airplay so what makes us think it would now...
AURYTE said on July 31, 2005 12:09:
Or maybe the lack of promotion?.. Almost no airplay didn’t help, I guess... And the word “Roxette” has nothing to do with it. The music that Dancing DJ’s is making is very different from Roxette.
Rich-UK said on July 31, 2005 12:27:
You’re spot on Neil. It’s absence from the Woolworths chart will have a significant impact on the chart success.
About the Woolworths top 50... they have lots of shops, especially in the smaller towns that don’t have Virgin or HMV, but they sell lots of other things as well as CDs, e.g. clothes & sweets, so you’re only guaranteed to get a single there which is certain to reach the top 10 in the national chart. Over the last few years they have stocked fewer and fewer new CD singles, and now just have a top 50. They tend to have just a few new singles each week, the ones they think will be around for several weeks. I think that they’re trying to avoid being left with CD singles that don’t sell well, ones that they will have to sell at a reduced price, and ones that take up precious space in their stores that could be used for other things.
I think that the lack of promotion caused Woolworths not to stock the single, which will lead to a mediocre chart position this evening.
Oh well, I can dream about what might have been. All the best, Rich ;-)
ncurran said on July 31, 2005 12:28:
I dont think the lack of success has anything to do with airplay. These kind of songs never get played on radio anyway, unless they do well in the charts then the radio stations have no choice. This kind of release depends a lot more on club play, but the remix was doing the rounds in the clubs months ago....it was released way too late. Plus the distribution is the main problem. As i said before, Woolworths have a huge slice of the singles market. When they decide not to stock it, the record has virtually zero chance of doing well in the charts.
ncurran said on July 31, 2005 12:31:
Well its a new entry at #18....so slightly better than the midweek position
ally77 said on July 31, 2005 21:16:
My local WW and it’s a large store, never sold many singles.... same with the Big W we had....
ncurran said on July 31, 2005 21:22:
They might not have the largest selection of singles Ally, but they sell more units than any of the major record stores. A single would never make it to number 1 if it wasnt stocked by woolies

A quick point - I actually am and have been a Roxette fan for over 15 years and still have Look Sharp! in my car auto-changer, so if it makes anyone feel a little easier towards us, the track done with a lot of love :)
All the original samples have been cleared with EMI and we have been told that the track was personally approved by Roxette as they had final say on the clearance (all this info came from EMI records), which made us smile :)
The video is being made this week I believe, using large amounts of the original Roxette gothicy video for the song - I’ll leave you a little more info on that when I get a copy of it...
I DJ in various clubs around the UK and this track is going down a STORM!! The general insider opinion is that it’ll go top 5 or higher in the UK charts when released in May - which is good for everyone!
I know some of you here consider it a form of sacrilege but I’ve seen many positive opinions on this and other forums and that is encouraging...
In ending I’ll just say I hope most of ya like the track and I’ll answer any questions if ya have them..
Off for a bacon and mushroom sandwich :)
Speak to ya soon,
