Any one went to see KYLIE?

OK, let’s clear up somethings, shall we?

As you all know a lot of strange things happened in this world the past few years. Reason why Kylie, Marie, Madonna or even the Pope for that matter doesn’t pick up anything that fans throw on stage is because of security-issues. Artists are highly recommanded not to pick up anything, how sweet it might seem. Remember the Antrax-issue a few years ago? Of course fans wouldn’t even think of the possibility of putting someting harmfull in a stuffed animal, but there’s always a slight chance someone else would. It’s easy to pack stuff in stuffed animals and then sew them back together, or put something in a package that looks like a gift box.
However, in Rotterdam Kylie picked up the roses on stage, but there’s not much you can do with flowers. She didn’t smell the roses out of precautioun.

Perhaps Kylie has been a bitch back then, but hey, you mentioned Jason Donovan.. that’s like 15 years ago!! Come on.. a lot has changes in that time.. even you, so don’t go dragging old horses here.

An example: my ex-boyfriend lived in Australia for a years and actually met Kylie briefly at Mardi Grass (while she was high on xtc, no kidding!.. lol) She was very friendly and gave him an autograph. He even got one from Dannii (and THAT’s the bitch, maybe Kylie got mistaken for Dannii) Both happend in 1997

So, endconclusion.. I haven’t been nice either during some periodes... we’re all human and we cant possibly be nice and polite all the time, especially when you’re a celeb.. everything you do then gets blown out of proportion.
Fact is that Kylie (now) IS super sweet and polite these days.. maybe she’ll transform into a superbitch in 5 years.. lol.. who knows (very unlikely though).
And what to think of Madonna.. still think she’s nice?!?! ;-)

*sorry for all the editing.. my english has become quite rusty..:-(*

Seen her in rotterdam last sunday.. it was awesome! Just one big party :-)

yes saw her yesterday in Vienna :)

First: she IS small and thin! She has such tiny hands hihi :P

Second: I enjoyed most of the show, some of the newer tracks sounded a bit lame, but all in all it was a nice show. And note that I write show with all the glitter and feathers and dancers and all, because that’s what it is. I am not that fond of such planned-to-the-last-second shows because I like artists who improvise (and after seeing Melissa Etheridge on stage any other artist becomes very very small), and Kylie didn’t move a finger if it wasn’t part of the show ... until the latests songs. I don’t know if it was because she sang the Your Disco Needs You in German and people seemed to wake up then, and Kylie looked like having more fun (she did during the whole show but you could anyway feel a change in the atmosphere). My fave were the last two songs because she talked more to the audience and improvised a little bit.

It was fun to hear all those old songs live - took me back in time...

The only really negative thing was the sound, which was horrible. I had never been at this venue before so I don’t know if it is the place, or the position of the speakers (rather to the sides of the stage, which is quite wide) together with the fact that we were front row, on the right of the stage, somewhere in the middle of the catwalk (very great spot to see the concert from, and you do need to be close if you want to see Kylie :P), but the sound was rather bad, it was a bit like echoing all the time and you couldn’t hear the voices 100% clear. Maybe soundcheck-ers had a bad day?

The supporting act, Melody Club, were ok, but due to the crappy sound I hardly understood a word :O Neither of what the guy spoke nor what he sung. The sound got better when Kylie stepped on stage but it still wasn’t as it should, at least for me (and I have been in front row before with other artists in other shows and I know being front row doesn’t mean extremely bad sound quality...)

i saw her in glasgow last week.....absolutely fantastic show.

Yes Judith, this is more than a concert, its more like you are going to a west end show.....it depends what you prefer more. I like both personally. I’m quite happy to watch a band like Roxette with Marie running round the stage and no dancers, but kylies show is a completely different kind of experience.

Anyway, kylies voice is better than ever...where on other tours i had noticed she adapted some of the tunes so that she wouldnt have to sing all of the high notes...she hit them all here. Also the lighting, stage design and choreography was fantastic

something that hit me quite a lot: somebody threw a soft-toy to the stage (a cute red devil :)), it landed in the middle of the catwalk... I understood that Kylie walked around it while performing the songs but I didn’t quite get why she didn’t pick it up when she walked from the beginning of the catwalk back to the stage to join the dancers + band to say hi, she was walking on the catwalk, waving and blowing kisses and saying thanks for all bla bla, she again walked around it, didn’t even look at it .. it’s not that there were 101282 toys on the stage, only that one cute thing..

Re. Kylie’s voice. I must admit I was amazed she sounded LIKE in the albums! Many artists have different voices in albums/live but Kylie sounded rather the same, might be technology.. but I doubt it - she shouted a couple of times “yeah!!” and that proved she DOES have a high voice :O

Re. shows / “rock-concerts”. I prefer rock shows because I like a) shows that differ one to the other and b) that the artist reacts on the audience, listens, looks, pays attention - and isn’t standing there as a robot not doing any move more than what’s in the script.

I guess you can get what I mean if I tell you that after seeing Melissa live in Hamburg we had the urge to see her again, we HAD TO, so we traveled extra to München for that. I would have gone to more shows if we had had the chance/money to. On the other hand, even I enjoyed the show so much and it was great to see Kylie live, I wouldn’t go to another of Showgirl shows.

Again, I guess I am totally spoiled with Melissa Etheridge (even Marie sometimes) - Melissa just grabs anything people want to give her :P she reads the posters / signs aloud, she takes presents and comments on them - once she even put it high so people at the back could see it... What can I say, she’s my fave live artist. Punkt :)

ick kylie give me ME anyday

I’m not that surprised Kylie didn’t pick up the toy, in Australia she has quite a reputation for being rude to fans. I grew up near her town so I heard a lot of stories of her being really rude to fans. We had an expression when I was in the 6th grade “Kylie Min-o-gue spits on you” because she was so rude. They also had a thing on the radio where ppl could ring in and tell about meeting a celebrity, and someone called and said how Kylie was out with her boyfriend Jason Donovan, and this person asked for an autograph and she said no. The person asked Jason and he said “Yes of course” and was very kind about giving the autograph so then Kylie had to sign too but she was making a face the whole time!

:S i only heard nice things about her, know some people who have met her and explained nice stories (together with graphic proof: pictures ;))... so I was rather surprised when she ignored the toy :O She also looked so sweet on stage...

I mean I have seen Marie not picking up stuff from the stage but she at least looks at it and smiles or waves or sth.

She might have changed since then, she was a total bitch earlier in her career but if she was smart she would have realised that it’s not so good for business ;) Plus of course she’s older and wiser now. And of course it depends, I have met Per several times and he was a jerk. I’ve heard from other people that he is sweet and friendly, so I guess you have to meet people at the right time.

I just kinda spotted myself in a fan picture of the show in Vienna :D

There’s this security guy sitting behind the fence and somebody with a raised arm in front of him. I was more or less in that area :D

ive also only heard good things about kylie being nice to her fans. From what Ive heard shes always very polite.
as for her sister...she has a very different reputation is a bit of a diva. Listening to not only the fans, but also people within the british music industry and the media....everyone seems to love kylie, so i very much doubt that she is stuck up or rude.

Judith, as for not picking up the toy...i dont know why she didnt, but i can tell you that i gave her a red rose in Glasgow, and she said thankyou and waved it around for half of the encore.

This chick was SO over after her collaboration with Nick Cave...

But then Spinning Around was a big hit in the UK but not really in the mainland of Europe...But what on earth happened then??? Can’t get you out of my head just crashed in! Never really understood the greatness of that track but apparently it seems that that particular track kept her success going on. I mean releasing “Slow”, “Red-blooded woman” etc without people having the Super Star Kylie in mind the singles would have been true disasters...

And how many collections has she had in a relatively short period? 3?

Anyway, I did not go to see Kylie...She doesn’t bother to show up in the Nordic region and even if she did I wouldn’t pay 50 euros for a concert celebrating great advanced technology & supposedly good looks.

I didn’t want to pick on Kylie, I like her a lot, she belongs to my teenager time, I think she was my first idol before Roxette.. and I had a great time at the show and all.

I was only shocked that she ignored the toy, specially because I had heard she is so sweet and nice to fans. I was only wondering, now I got a reply and explanation: she is still the nice little cute sweet sexy Kylie and she only had a bad day :)

I must say the Austrian crowd wasn’t THAT good, people here are rather like “what will others say” or “what if somebody I know sees me jumping around” ;) I guess the mood got to Kylie too :S

PS: does she take drugs? :S

@ Judith: Dont worry too much about the drugs.. it was only a short periode of time after Michael commited suicide and I guess the girl only had some fun. Just listen to to the tracks after Confide in me.. I bet you notice she was quite experimental that time, especially when it comes to b-sides and rare tracks. I kinda like them because it’s very off mainstream and it takes guts to do something different rather than go with the flow.

Glad to here my explanation could restore the image you had of Kylie.. she’s still sweet and cute and tiny as always.

@animalkingdom: Did you know Kylie was the biggest selling female artist of the ’90? She sold way more than Madonna, Celine Dion or Mariah Carrey, dispite the fact that NONE of her recordings were released in the US?! This means she could have easily have knocked a whole lot more if here recordings actually had been released in the US. Beside that, after Madonna Kylie is the only female singer who had #1 hitsingles in the ’80, ’90 and ’00... I think that’s rather impressive for someone who is (still?) being looked at as dummy... To top that, she had more top 10 and top 20 hits in the UK than Madonna! :-) She really is(/was?) underestamated, but the fact that she couldn’t care less about that makes here even a cooler chick than she already was. She’s very tiny, but very sharp and keen!

Last comment.. she wasn’t (totally) over after the Nick Cave issue (bearing in mind that even, after a dip in the 2nd half of ’90, she still is the biggest selling female of that decade)
True.. her recordcompany did not allow here release any more singles, only albums, but still in Australia she was the bomb (and yes, thanks to all aussie gays). The moment she signed for Parlophone records was the days she got right up and she’s still climbing :-D

@ Judith... didn’t mean to give you the impression I thought you were picking on Kylie, because actually I didn’t think that at all!
Just being enthusiastic her.. lol
No worries! :-)

Don’t worry, we have some experience here about being enthusiastic about an artist :P

I just thought my words might be missunderstood :O

“Did you know Kylie was the biggest selling female artist of the ’90?”

No, I didn’t...and that is because she CERTAINLY WAS NOT!!! Hello!! Which planet are you living on?

“She sold way more than Madonna, Celine Dion or Mariah Carrey”

Unbelievable cr*p...Exactly what were the singles/albums that made her outsell the artists behind such mega sellers as “Ray Of Light”, “Let’s Talk About Love” (including “My Heart Will Go On”), “Music Box” (including “Without You”) by Madonna, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.’

Do you have any specific details but your own, sort of, questionable word?

“To top that, she had more top 10 and top 20 hits in the UK than Madonna! :-)”

You mean in the 90’s? Or when?

Actually Madonna has had around 60 (yes, SIXTY) top 10 or top 20 singles in the UK so you must understand I have a little hard time understanding your interesting points...;/

Not sucking this outta my thumb! :-)

“Videos:
iFilm Kylie Minoque Video Showcase
iFilms offers a fantastic showcase of Kylie’s videos. Keep in mind that despite not releasing albums in the U.S. Kylie was the biggest selling female artist worldwide in the ’90s, bigger than Mariah or Madonna. These videos are a testament to her international appeal.

Mariah sold more than Celine, so I added her (Celine) to that fact myself.

Can’t remember where I read the fact she has more top 10/20 singles than Madonna in the UK. Thought it was on her official website.. I’ll keep searching. Even I was very surprised since I had no idea she was doing so well at that time.

Another thing that happenend during the Rotterdam show: A woman standing front row at the end of the catwalk (round stage) was crying her eyes out when Kylie sang Dreams. Kylie kneeled down right in front of here, gave the woman a hand, smiled and said hey, there’s no need to cry!

Not bitchy at all I think :-)

As for ncurran: You’re absolutely right about Dannii... she certainly has a reputation..

MARIAH was the biggest selling female artist of the 90s, not Kylie!! This is a fact.

That’s what I thought too...

btw I remembered something funny from the show. By the end, after singing Can’t get you out of my head I think, she read a sign somebody was holding which said something like “shake it the way you know” .. and she read it out loud and was like “what should I shake? my head?” (and shaked her head) :P she laughed and then she shaked her sexy ass :D

who’s mariah?...... oh yeah speaking about biches.
i think she is the worst
i’m not in to kylie. but i like her i don’t think she is a bitch. alot of things are writtin about pop stars and most of them are a lie.
i think it’s amazing that kylie is so big right now
after being away so long
buy the way my favorite kylie song is confide in me. i really love that song

Not that much Kylie fans here?

nick, well she only did 7 or 8 shows in europe...the bulk of her european fanbase is in the UK/Ireland...and i dont suppose there are many people on TDR from these parts...British/Irish Roxette fans are a dying breed unfortunately

I’m an Irish Rox fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably the only one, lol. I actually saw Kylie twice (right @ the front both times! The gods were kind with my tix....Dublin & London). The show was a very tightly and meticulously choreographed show. I agree sometimes it lacked spontaneity but one thing’s for sure....Kylie’s voice.....and that back catalog of hits alone testifies her brilliance & longevity.

guys how do you like her mid-90s “rock” (?mmmm) material?
I really like Some Kind Of Bliss and Jump, some other too. That material is interesting but I do prefer her dance/pop material.

I love the Impossible Princess album.....Breathe is sensational. Very sexy song & a gr8 dance tune too!

Impossible Princess is my favourite Kylie album. Although it was a commercial disaster, i think most of kylies hardcore fans hold it as one of their favourites, probably because it is with this album more than any of the others that we got the chance to get a glimpse of the real kylie, since she wrote all of the lyrics, and co-wrote most of the music. Most of the songs are really personal.
Also its predecessor, Kylie Minogue (94) was pretty cool, a first step away from her manufactured pop PWL days, and Confide in Me is a classic

which one was more popular Princess or Kylie Minogue? how do you like Falling Pet Shop Boys wrote to her?

Really like Impossible Princess. When I got finally got round to buying the album around 4-5 years, I only paid £6.99 for it. When I got it home, it had the name “Impossible Princess” on and Promo Copy 1. Was told by a old friend (and I think possibly Kylies biggest fan - he’s got a tattoo of her on his leg) that this is worth quite a bit of money. I was very impressed!! Fave song on that album is either Too Far or Some Kind of Bliss depending on mood

I much prefer this album to the 94 one, and I prefer Fever to Light Years. I find Body Language quite boring. My fave out of the PWL days I think is Rhythm of Love

LaMan, “which one was more popular Princess or Kylie Minogue? how do you like Falling Pet Shop Boys wrote to her?”

Well commercially, no doubt about it, the Kylie Minogue (94) album was more successful, apart from in Australia where Impossible Princess was one of her biggest selling albums. “Falling” is OK, but i think it could have been produced better. I prefer Kylie’s other collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys “In Denial” from their “Nightlife” album.

Personally, out of the 2 albums I prefer Impossible Princess. Kylie Minogue (94) is a good album, but in a different kind of way to IP. At that time when she left PWL in 1992, for her first record with deConstruction, there was a deliberate attempt to make her sound more adult. Hence the fact that on this album she worked with many different writers and producers, and the outcome was a very well polished record, but nothing too exciting or groundbreaking apart from maybe Confide in Me which is fantastic. One EXCELLENT point about this album is the vocal production. Her voice is stronger on this record than any other that she has recorded.

As for Impossible Princess, it is a totally different kind of record. There wasnt the same planning/A&R involvement in the making of this album. Kylie was basically left to her own devices to make and record this album. Of course this was a good thing, but at that time I’m not really sure that she herself knew what kind of wanted to record. And that my only criticism of that album, is that it isnt very cohesive. The tracks that she recorded with the Manic Street Preachers, kind of stand out from the more contempary dance tracks.
However, she did write all the lyrics herself (mostly when she was on a roadtrip in america i think), and a lot of the music. Its definitely much more personal than any of the other work she has done, and it makes the whole album a lot deeper. Its the kind of album i like to listen to while reading the lyrics at the same time. There are also some fantastic tracks on it, but i think there were a lot of factors which contributed to it being a big flop. Mostly the whole releasing of the singles and album was a big mess. The album was delayed and eventually came out 6 months after it was originally planned and the whole promotion was a big mess. I also think the release of Some Kind of Bliss was a big mistake. Limbo, Too far, or possibly even Drunk would have been much better choices

pwbounce: I wonder if she knows about that tattoo :)

What about WHERE THE WILD ROSES GROW? I wonder if she sings it in the concerts? (with who you may ask :)

Some Kind Of Bliss video is really, really good, one of her best.
Old song worth to mention: Finer Feelings!!

Where the wild roses grow was a minor hit in the UK. It is a personal favourite of kylie’s i think, and the video is fantastic! She actually sang a snippet of it on the latest tour during “Red Blooded Woman”, which was quite ironic actually as lots of fans see it as being her most creative and RBW as being her biggest sellout. It did (kind of) work though

2 other highlights of her “wilderness years” that i forgot to mention. The 2 b-sides to “Confide in me”
“Nothing can stop us” and “If you dont love me”. They are both cover versions, but great songs. “if you dont love me” especially really shows of her vocal talent. Another example of the great vocal production in the making of that album

I´ve got this very nice “Hits +” alike collection of songs from both albums mentioned.

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00005TSTN.03.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

@LaMan - Yes she does know about the tattoo. He has met her on a number of occasion, and even had it photographed for the centre page of one of her books. I forget which one it was in. A couple of tours ago, I think it was the Light Years one, she actually mentioned his name during the show and said that it was nice to see a familiar face in the crowd. Quite cool.

Yeah its one of her better songs from the PWL era, though i do find the chorus a little tacky

How do u like this one: (album, no pic of Kylie with hardly nothing on lol).
http://www.wikimusic.de/files/article/news/1101232513/400x600/ultimatek_...

btw there is one song I can´t stand... “Kids”. It´s useless.
