Queen + Paul Rodgers on Tour

Some of you might know what a hardcore Queen fan I am. I have never been a fan of Queen performing with other singers since I believe noone can ever be Freddie Mercury; NOONE! The tour wasn’t a pleasant idea for quite a long time and it took me a while to accept the fact that Brian May and Roger Taylor would like to move on even though they always mention that noone can replace Freddie.
Well, the tour kicked off last night at Brixton. Is anyone going to any of the shows in Europe? and if you already were at a show, how was it? What do you think of the whole event?

Hi Daminehgessle, I have been Queen fan for a long time and I will see them in Prague (April 16th). I will write you how it was on your e-mail. If you want...

Whilst I was crazy for Roxette at school all those years ago I had two friends who where crazy for Queen, ironic but one just got in touch this evening not spoke for ages....
DaminehGessle said on March 30, 2005 00:48:
Heh yeah that would be great if you let me know how the concert goes.
And yes could I get those videos off you?
I know the 46664 concert wasn’t even close to what Queen is all about with Paul Rodgers. I just don’t like the idea. I never liked Bad Company or Free either and I think Rodgers is quite bluesy.
It just hurts.

I saw a little clip of a concert on TV and I didn’t like the singer at all... I think he sucked...
A few years ago I saw Brian May live with his solo stuff (and of course some Queen material) and THAT was really good... and on top of it, Brian May is a really nice and funny guy. :)
So I would have preferred him as singer... then I’d have been tempted to go to such a concert as well...
Breathe8 said on April 2, 2005 16:30:
Yes, Susi! Brian is a very great man!! He is my the most favourite member of Queen for many years!
LaMan said on April 2, 2005 17:28:
I wish Freddie could still be alive. He was very good performer.
What is your fave Queen song? Mine are Who Wants To Live Forever and Show Must Go On and Radio GaGa. Yours??
jetjet said on April 2, 2005 18:58:
In former days I always wanted to go to a Queen concert together with my older brother, but since Freddie died this is not an option anymore. I really don’t want to hear that other bloke at all! I like Brian and Roger, but I sometimes wonder what happened to John. Is he retired or something? One of my favourite songs (I can’t just call it my absolute favourite, because there are so many fantastic songs!) is Ogre battle. Amazing energy level and crazy lyrics!
DaminehGessle said on April 4, 2005 03:33:
I don’t have a favourite!! I love them all. They all impress me.
As for John, he is retired from the pop world. He said Queen died when Freddie died and he has stood by his words.
Breathe8 said on April 6, 2005 07:19:
I agree with this tour. I am happy I will see Brian and Roger together on one stage to play their biggiest hits!
coyboyusa said on April 8, 2005 08:33:
well lets put it this way, would you go see roxette if marie quit and per hired a new singer and went around touring as roxette? and freddie was an icon to alot of people to go pandering around saying hey were queen without him i dunno i’d find it rather offensive
Breathe8 said on April 9, 2005 14:58:
I know it´s strange without Freddie, much strange but I will glad I will see rest of band because Queen wasn´t only Freddie but 4 different people!
But it´s true when Per would sing with another singer and their name would be Roxette, I would not agree with it. What a terrible idea!
DaminehGessle said on April 12, 2005 01:43:
Breathe8: The idea of Roxette without Marie is the same as Queen without Freddie Mercury except Freddie Mercury was the lead singer as with Roxette there are 2 singers. Queen was 4, you are right, but do you see John Deacon in the band?! NO! You don’t. This is half of Queen and 1/2 of Queen is not Queen.
I love Brian May and I respect the man very much and his decisions as he is a very smart man. What bothers me is that he says he loves his job and playing and he called this band they are on tour with a “new” Queen. Well, why not playing under another name?!
It’s just a little too much to take. I can’t stand someone messing up Queen lyrics or not being able to pull off the songs I grew up loving. I am debating whether I should get the ticket when they come to Canada. I want to go because I love singing to Queen but again this is not Queen. It just hurts.
Freddie Mercury was not just a singer, he was an idol, irreplacable, a legend.

I am a big Queen fan, and have only been so since their hit musical We Will Rock You opened in the West End, the show proves that although no-body can replace freddie, the music of Queen can be performed very well ineed.
I read brian’s website alot and he has explained his decision to tour as Queen + Paul Rodgers...
John Decon has unfortunately retired, but he has given his concent for this tour to go ahead.
I am not old enough to remember Queen first time round (i have all the albums but its not the same), so i am pleased to see this tour and their musical in London (also is showing in Spain, Autralia and USA)
I think Freddie would be extactic about Queen continuing the name and music to a new generation of fans (people like me). At the Wembly 86 Concert (its on dvd if you want to check, freddie mercury “we will stay together, untill we all fu**ing well die”, just because he is dead, that does not Queen cannot perform, and the concert does not pretend to pretend to be completely Queen, not the + Paul Rodgers on the end.
People may feel it is not right for Queen to continue on, but i think it is bringing a new generation of fans for the band, and is generating fandom for real music.
As for people’s comments about Per continuing without Marie in roxette if anything were to ever happen, well i would support anything that brings a new generation of fans, and increse the popularity of the band.
Real music needs to be saved.

I saw two Queen + Paul Rodgers concerts (Prague, Budapest). Both concerts were very great, excellent, beautiful, greatest shows! Paul Rodgers is a very great singer. Before I didn´t know him but now I can say he is a really good singer and showman. He doesn´t try to be like Freddie, he sings songs otherwise than Freddie. Some songs sing only Brian and Roger, for example Brian: “39”, Long Away, Love of my life, Roger: Say it´s not true - very beautiful ballad - a new song from Roger. I am in love with my car, both These are the days of our lives....
The best songs are Bohemian Rhapsody: 1. part Freddie sings from big screen (Wembley 86), 2. part: classic from entry because it´s very hard to sing live, 3. part Paul sings..
- “39” - very great ballad from Brian
- Love of my life - this song Brian sings for Freddie and with him all fans.
- Say it´s not true and all other songs.....
Brian makes joke with fans.... (in Prague some fans in first row had a ballons and Brian “We have a party?” Brian always speaks some sentences in language in what language speaks in that country.
I met them by their hotel and at airport and I have got a autogpraphs. I also will see Queen concert in Germany in july.

Back when ’Queen of Rain’ was released, my sister was the Roxette Fan in my Family and when she bought the single, she didn’t want my mother to see, because my sister thought, it was a song were Roxette and Queen collaborated! (My mother thought Queen was a bad band, quite evil... lol)
And she called herself a Fan! ha ha...

I have decided to go to the concert if they come to North America but I still don’t like the whole idea. I watch my Queen DVDs and I just don’t get how someone can sing those songs.
blunek said on June 16, 2005 10:54:
The show must go on... but does it have to be done in this way? :0/ I don‘t like Roger and Brian‘s idea to perform as Queen when Freddie is not here anymore... Yesterday I read some opinions about nowadays concerts. Many people say that this is too much to take Paul Rodgers and let him perform Freddie‘s songs. But also many people - these who had a chance to see these concerts - say that the whole show is really good indeed, that you can still feel Freddie somewhere there... And an empty chair left on the stage while Brian is playing alone... And when I read this I thought that maybe it‘s really worth to see it even if deep in heart some of us still think that it‘s not Queen anymore.
I‘m listening to Innuendo right now. What a masterpiece! By the way, what‘s your favourite album / song? :0)

European Queen tour has already finished. What a pity! Last week it was last european concert in Hyde park in London. Together I saw 4 Queen shows (Prague, Budapest, Cologne, Hyde park). I can say Hyde park show was the greatest and the best show in my life! Sometimes I felt that Queen are old Queen. Also they played in front of 80.000 people in Hyde park!! I was in 2nd row from the stage!! (I spent 8 hours waiting to the beginning of the concert in Hyde park). When I looked back, it was fantastic how many people were there! Queen played IMAGINE from Beatles (only here), it was great suprise for us. Brian, Roger and Paul were fantastic like always. Never I thought Queen will go on tour one day without Freddie but they went! I believe I will see them live one day again. Maybe this year yet (because maybe they will make one UK date yet)or next year! THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!

blunek: I don’t have a favourite song. I can name a few songs I don’t mind much but a favourite? I can count so many of them hehe.
Breathe8: Not fair :(. They have set 2 North American tours: LA and New York!
I didn’t want to go to the concert since the reason I like Queen besides their music is Freddie. So seeing Paul Rogers singing those songs just makes me sad. But again, I like to see how they are doing it. the fact that they have stopped talking about Freddie, I don’t like. I just don’t like the whole idea. You might say who are you to say that... Oh well that’s just my opinion.
Breathe8 said on July 24, 2005 08:14:
I think they will have more concerts than only in NY and LA. You must wait.

I was so lucky when Brian sang the songs “39” and Love Of My Life about one metre from me!! Also I met him in Cologne. We were only 3 fans there. Brian shook the hands with us and he said to every one “Hello”. Me to him too. Then he gave me a very beautiful autograph with dedication on my tourbook and he talked with us for a while. It was unforgettable experience for me!!!
Breathe8 said on April 30, 2006 07:20:
@DaminehGessle: Have you seen Queen + PR live in the USA this year? How did you like them?
Or anyone else? Also this autumn they want to go to South America and maybe next year will be european tour again with a new album. I start to save my money. I´d like to see 8 - 10 shows, not only 4 shows like last year.

I downloaded some videos of them. Like you said, no one can replace Freddy Mercury. I’ve never liked Bad Company or Paul Rogers, but I’ve always loved Queen. Let me know if you want some of those videos, but be warned! It ain’t pretty! :(
Why they were joined on stage by Katie Melua, I’ll never know! :(
