change of opinion on HAND

since I’m always dissing, I listened to it in full for the first time since it came out 6 years ago. Its possibly the best album roxette have done together. It has, thanks to Lundquists influence, the best production and the most musical depth. Shame I didnt see it at the time. Anyways, I’m totally procrasinating now, but I thought I’d share this to kill yet more time. oam...

Isn’t it hilarious that this album might one day become the most popular amog us for 2 simple reasons? Half of us hate it the other half loves it ... we can never get this record out of our heads ...it’s been 6 years and look at this now ... it’s still clashing and unclashing ... it keeps rolling .... the more it goes ....
Christopher bass playing in the record? Ferdan is going to hate such view... he can’t stand his bass playing most of the times ... and remember that Anders is a evergreen missed bass player in Roxette so .... as I said this hate/love keeps rolling
Whatever ... Have a nice day!

Have always liked the record but was today listening to it after a while...It really is incredible! :)
Can’t believe it’s 6 years already...It feels like yesterday...You know, when CBB came out it had “only” been 4 years since Joyride and even that felt like a lifetime :)

I don’t hate HAND, it is (just one of ) the weakest Roxette-albums, but still with some very good songs on it, for example: Crush On You is really great.

Yes it’s a mixed bag to say the least...
You have killer tracks such as “Crush On You”, “Stars”, “Wish I Could Fly” and “Anyone”.
And then there’s the right ole turkeys such as “Staring At The Ground”, “Waiting For The Rain” and “I Was So Lucky”.
It’s a love-hate album for me. (I loved the cover art though!)

@animalkingdom: I feel exacly the same: when CBB came out it had “only” been 3 ( not even 4) years since Joyride and even that felt like a lifetime. And now its 6 years since HAND..

Well, a friend of mine who is not fan of Roxette says HAND is the best Roxette album. I don’t know but it’s a very great album and I don’t understand why some people hates that album being Roxette fans... The production is sooooo good and the songs are not similar... so different... and that’s a good point. For example, “Room Service” songs are a bit similar and HAND is the opposite.
I think HAND was considered in a wrong way at that time but it is changing through years. Anyway, I always liked HAND, always believed in :)

yea, its actually cool. I believe that Christoffer is a much better bass player than Anders, although both have made great contributions and I admire them both. Its just on HAND and RS you can FEEL CL’s influence the way you always do with Jonas Isacssons. This makes it a standout roxette record. Although its taken me 6 years to come round to the idea. oam

... Ooops! wrong post
Edit. Have got some words to say on the topic.
HAND still sounds fresh and very different from the other rox albums. Not the best album although has enough wonderful songs. It could have had more of them if they’d changed the production of some of the songs like Stars.
And I miss Anders’ bass. The only thing in HAND that I like less and less with time (not only in HAND) is Christoffer’s playing. Don’t know why but sometimes I find it boring.

I have the opinion that no Roxette album is bad. Everyone is super. But I must say that HAND is the “worst” album they have made, wich in my opinion means that it is really good.

I think have a nice day is a great album. Some people say it’s not so good but I think it’s great.
on_a_mission said on February 16, 2005 17:20:
i could defend C’s bassplaying to the death, Anders is kinda ’sugary’ see Joyride - all. But his outro to the look really adds something. Anways, back to other things. oam.

A roxer not liking HAND is NOT a real Roxette fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rox_Nox2003 said on February 16, 2005 18:45:
A Roxer not able to acknowledge Roxette’s music in all its similarities and differences in all their weeknesses and strongenesses .... can not be a complete Roxette fan ... life is more than a limited square filled with only expected trademarks so you better open some doors, let some air go into your mind and you will find out more than you could expected ... ex. HAND!

I quite like HAND, at first it took a few listens, but then you realise it’s just as much a Roxette album as the rest. The only thing i would change would be Stars, i would’ve liked it to be the original rocky version Per mentioned.
Why does everyone compare Herrlin to Lundquivst?? i thought u play bass, and that is that. i’ve never noticed any real difference, or am i not listening hard enough??
carbon_boy said on February 17, 2005 11:35:
HAND has eversince its release been my fave Rox album. Musically it’s daring, different and way ahead of its time - look at some of the comments above. I think if it was released now it would’ve done better. It’s Roxette, but updated and fresh. As for the cover art, everyone who knows me will know what Im gonna say now: IT’S BLOODY FABULOUS!!!
Compare HAND to Room Service.... you’ll see what I mean.
Cheers

@RobS For me there IS a difference in Christoffer’s and Anders’ manner of playing bass, hard to explain it with words. You can try to feel it listening closer to TWATG, for example to the first two tracks: Christoffer is playing on Stupid, Anders on Do You Wanna Be My Baby. I think one of the differences is that in similar styled songs Lundquist more and in slightly another way runs over the strings, tending to play higher and lighter. Herrlin sounds more solid.

@LaMan: the idea behind Have A Nice Day cover was to put something in the background that is very dear to both Per and Marie. And then they thought of the children being the most dear to Roxette. Though, have no idea why kids are naked.
Sparvogamarie said on February 15, 2005 15:51:
It’s actually not that bad, I think we all just hated it for being different. Maybe in a few years everyone will like The Change too!
