Wow... I never realised how terrible Baladas was!

I was just browsing Google for some Russian/possibly Greek site that had a load of demos on it. But I stumbled onto this site. And while I was browsing the lyrics section, I noticed that the section for Baladas has direct translations of all the songs. Who the hell did this? Since when does It Must Have Been Love have these lyrics?

4. It Must Have Been Love (No Se Si Es Amor)

It’s like love,
but I’m not sure.
Taste to kiss
in my pillow.
It’s early morning
and he isn’t here
Lonely
in my bed
if he loves me,
why does he leave?

It is love or it isn’t love.
I don’t know.

I don’t know if it’s love
but it seems to be.
With him I’m happy
but I’m living wihout
I don’t know if it’s love
but it grows and grows
so inside of me,
it’s skin-deep

It’s curious!
We’re always together
he’s with no one
I’m with him
And he’s running
through my fingers.

Half an angel, half a devil.
That’s love or that’s not love,
I don’t know.

I don’t know if it’s love
but it seems to be,
And I’m afraid that
I’m crazy about him.
I don’t know if it’s love
anything could happen
It’s something warm,
it’s something intimate.

Was this guy drunk when he translated these lyrics or what? How could he get it so wrong? Sure... some words must be compromised because of the time-difference it takes to say some things in English and some things in Spanish... but, come on!!!

BTW, does anyone have a link to the site that I’m looking for? Someone posted about it a while ago, and I started complaining that some of the songs in the ’demo’ section were just blanks. But I’ve, stupidly, deleted all the demos I got from that site. Can someone help?

Roxette should have contacted the argentinian stuff that translated the Abba songs...

@Roxhard: My Argentinian friend said the lyrics sounded like baby-talk when I played the cd for her a couple of years ago. She knows Roxette well and was quite taken back by it. Said the best translation to her was Undia Sin Ti....

The translator didn’t actually just translate the songs. He gave most of the songs completely new lyrics! For example: the chorus line for “I dont wanna get hurt”’s translation says something like “I want to be like you, just like you”.... get what I mean?

Later ;o)

Mmm... not sure what they’re thinkin there? THat’s hardly poetic...!!

@ Carbon; *huggles* 2 ’Ro... god was dit ’n crazy holiday?!! hope u’r well - speakith/mail soon!!

I must admit that I hadn’t realised that the lyrics were as bad as that - LOL! All the best, Rich ;-)

can we next expect Spanish album from Ace Of Base?! lol.

I’m form Chile
yeah..the lyrical work done for this album is awful
it’s such a shame
but, marie’s effort for doing it , it is something spanish fans aprecciate very much.....

ooohh welcome down to Earth! So did you think that us Spanish speaking people have been complaining about the “translations” (if you can call it like that) /lyrics of this album all this years for fun? ;)

Marie’s voice is the only good thing in this album, unfortunately cannot listen to it (her voice) because i DO understand what she sings and it makes me ill. She sure does an efford singing, her Spanish isn’t perfect (wouldn’t expect it to be), but she does sound like a foreigner that has studied Spanish and does the typical pronunciation mistakes - which actually sound sweet :P

My Spanish is not very good!!! My parents speak it very well. But they liked it. Maybe the lyrics are not so good!!! But i’ts sung very wel for a Swedish artist!!!
This is my conclusion.

I understood that the lyrics were bad...... but not that bad ;-D LOL

I speak spanish and I must say ( once again..): the lyrics from BEE are worse than terrible...

i have said this many times... Marie is the best no-spanishspeaker singer... her pronunciation is better than madonna, bon jovi, abba or bryan adams...

@Nox1983: Listen to Elisa’s “Hablame” and after that we can talk about good Spanish pronunciation by foreigner artists.

you can diss the translations but you can rip the intent, not many artists from non spanish speaking countires attamept to braiden their market the way roxette did, and lets be honest, latin american fans really love roxette and i am sure the feeling is mutual

Yeah. It was that bad.

I dunno about you guys but Roxette is really losing the steam that it used to have.

I found it real hard to buy Marie’s new album here. Having two more greatest hits album (plus THE REAL greatest hits album) proves that Roxette is banking on past success to sell albums. Time to get things running.

I’m not whinning, just my thoughts.

I´m glad I don´t understand any Spanish because I love this album. It´s better this way.

@ coyboyusa: what you´ve posted is very nice..., I´m from Argentina, South America, and yes, we really love Roxette. For all of you to have an idea, most of the stuff in the Really Roxette documentary belongs to Argentina, and their attendance record was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 120,000 fans among their 2 shows from 1992. As regards Baladas en Español, it was a hit here, Un día sin tí, was very much aired in radios and entered most of the radio charts. The album also entered the Album Charts and remained in the third position for several weeks. What does Roxette think of it?, well, during the HAND promo tour in 1999, they apologized to all of us for the album during the press conference in Buenos Aires. But they returned with the Spanish version of HAND which are much better.

Huh? Did roxette say they were sorry for BEE? So they actually know that the lyrics on that album suxx? Whay did they say?

Yes, a reporter asked them about the album and why the difference lyrically speaking. They said they were sorry for BEE. And that they knew what they were singing because they got the lyrics translated into English, but they also said that their Spansih is very poor and Per added that the only thing he remembered was the phrase “Ella es tímida...” .

Santi, i listened the english version, i have not found Hablame...

Marie recorded 13 ballads in 1996 and 3 in 1999, i wonder if there has been any other singer recording so many songs in spanish in few years as Marie did... i think she did a great job in that album with those horrible lyric...

yeah, the lyrics are icky, as well as i can understand them. i work with two nice gals from mexico and they really like the cd though, we play a lot of roxette in the car. i even heard a cover of “No Se Si Es Amor” on the local spanish speaking radio station today, one of my crew thinks the artist is called priscilla.

@Roxhard Are you talking about roxette.cz? Check the Rarities section there.
